Guardian Angel or Devil | The Sinister Case of Kenia Monge

When Kenia Monge went missing in Denver, the alarms were raised. She disapproved from a bar, where could she have gone? CCTV and a guardian angel would provide clues, but nothing concrete. Until this "guardian angel" started to, well, not look like that.

Hearing stories like this always takes me back to a night in college on New Year’s Eve. I was in a college town. Walking home alone, and a man in a car pulled over asking if I wanted a ride home. While there may be well intentioned men out there, you never know. So I said no, but he followed me for a while, and once I knew he couldn’t see me, entered my home. You. Never. Know. Ladies, don’t risk it.
@beekneed
@beekneed Год назад
You did the right thing. No man should offer any woman a ride anywhere, ever. If he has sincere concerns for her wellbeing he should call the police and give them her location, period. If he wants, he can wait in his car until they get there. It doesn't matter if he's "a good guy" because the point I'm making is that this is what good guys should do, always, if they (or any woman, for that matter) are concerned and want to follow through. My husband and I saw a young woman stumbling along a dark street in the college town we lived in. After a brief "should we or shouldn't we?" conversation, we slowed and I asked her from the driver side window if she was okay. She was clearly extremely intoxicated. Fortunately, campus police were located less than a block away, across from our house. We called them. To this day I still feel bad about stopping instead of just calling. Just because. We shouldn't have given her the option to make a potential gravely dangerous decision. I too had walked along that same quiet street in my college days and sometimes feel the chill of regret for doing that, myself. No one, man or woman, SHOULD have to worry about walking alone at night. If something bad happens to them, it's not their fault but the fault of the piece of shit who does it. Still, I wish there was more awareness among young women about the real dangers they face. Stay well xx

The fact that she was kicked out of the bar for being too intoxicated (her friends said she drank the same amount as them and they suspected she was roofied) without all her stuff, and without getting her a cab or at least trying to get her a ride home honestly makes me feel sick, even if it was taking her to the hospital via ambulance (calling 911) so she could "sober up", this wouldn't have happened. Also the fact he had that cooler in his workplace around so many ppl, he was cocky and so confident he would never get caught.

In his confession to police at the end, he said he left his credit card buried in the grave with her. When asked why, he said he didn't WANT to get caught, but figured if they found the body, then he deserved to be caught. So he left identification. Because of this statement, I think he may have sent that text to her the next day (knowing she was dead) because he unconsciously wanted to be caught and find redemption for his crimes. I'm just speculating. The other thing too is, sometimes the murderers or attackers insert themselves into investigations on purpose because they want to find out what the police know. Or they want attention. There are probably a variety of psychological reason, some may not be done intentionally. But the whole leaving the credit card behind thing, makes sense with him also sending a text to attract attention to himself. He was spiraling out of control.

I knew Travis Forbes, my parents own the bakery he rented space from. I figured in fact check this video as I watch it and give my commentary. I'll also add things most people don't know about this story. 1.) Travis was not gluten free. He made gluten free granola bars, but did not eat gluten free himself. 2.) He did have a creepy white van, I rode in it with him several times when he would make delivery's. Fun fact, my cousin even stayed the night at his house once. 3.) Another fun fact, after the investigation got more serious (after that first interview inside the bakery) he called the bakery and I answered the phone. He gave me a spiel about how you shouldn't help people because you'll end up getting screwed over. He then got on the phone with my mom and tired to tell her that the reason why he burned the barrel of oil was because he was trying to grow weed on top of our freezer and it had molded. We didn't buy it. It was the next day that he ran to Texas after stealing a friend's car. 4.) Another fun fact; he had snuck into the office from going into the ceiling a week before to steal money from the safe by shaking it and having coins fall out the other side. Dude was desperate. 5.) A couple days before the story broke, he had stole $60 form the register. We actually called the cops on him and they came out to talk to us. If only we knew what had happened and why he stole the money. 6.) He did use the freezer to store ingredients, so it was normal for him to go in there. Obviously the taped up cooler was not normal and really weird. 7.) That short clip at 14:37 was my dad and I in the office with him. 8.) Those stories about being a pathological liar are true. He had a ton of crazy stories. He once told me to f*** off because I said I didn't like the way his bleached hair looked. He also said that he had an artery explode in his eye and that's why he couldn't pay rent. 9.) My parents have a pretty bad tendency of trusting people and giving them tons of chances. We are Christian and believe in being people forgiveness, it's bitten my parents in the butt quite a few times. This is one of the worst cases. He owed us several months of rent, and we never got all the money. 10.) I met with the parents of Kenia, I met the head police officer on the case, it was a crazy time for us. If your interested, we are still in business, doing really well actually. We still have the freezer he put her body in. I never feel creepy going in there. It is what it is. We were much more cautious about the people that rented space from us. Weve expanded so much that we don't have any free space available. If you have any other questions feel free to comment,I'll answer if I can. I was only 13 when it all happened so I wasn't given all the details that my mom had (she does appear on dateline for a short period of time).

You bring a mix of compassion, and humor, to your videos, while giving a very thorough deep dive to the stories that focuses on the victims and their families. In short, you do amazing work, and you’re doing a wonderful job for the families and victims as you’re helping get their story told, as well as helping myself, (and likely many others), get through the shitshow that has been 2020 and on. A friend of mine went out that night with Kenia and they lost her at one of the clubs...my friend was 21 and Kenia was 19 and couldn't get in .... she said Kenia went somewhere else with her friends... This story is so heart breaking as I remember the search and when we didn't know what happened to her and even reposted some of her missing person posts and seeing the story unfold on the news... I also used to work at the hotel Kenia went inside (Hyatt regency at Colorado Convention Center) and know exactly where a CCTV of Kenia was taken (not included in this video) extremely devastating... 💔my heart goes out to her family.

The guys in prison aren't gonna care if he's not "technically" a S offender. They are going to know why he's in there and if they are gonna remove him, it's not gonna matter if he wasn't technically one by the court. It actually might even be worse for him not being one because unfortunately those offenders are often held on separate yards which would are safer.

Thank goodness Travis actually implicated himself instead of his intended purpose of creating plausible deniability.

He probably would have gotton away with it if he hadn't sent that text. And I wonder why his ex dropped the charges for stealing her car - did he intimidate her or give her a sob story? Very strange. That's two women who covered for him.
@Iudicatio
@Iudicatio 2 года назад
@MsMaryPatricia It could be but it might also be that now she had the car back, she didn't think that putting in all the time, hardship, and money for a court case would be worth it. I wouldn't say she was covering for him until we know the full story.

He was physically attractive. If he wasn't such a puke women would like him and he wouldn't have to do such things. Or he is just a sick creature. Damn if you don't love women leave them alone!

When I heard of this case the first time, it was told from the viewpoint of the detective. Hearing his insight was fascinating. I'm so sorry to know that her parents marriage did not survive. Heartache heaped upon heartache. 💔

Same here! Well I think I've been around since about 500k, which was about a year ago. I've seen almost all of his videos 2-3 times. Glad to see him getting the success he deserves. Another good criminology channel to watch in tandem with some of Mike's videos is JCS - Criminal Psychology. Shows the interrogation of some of the suspects featured in That Chapter.
