@LoverboyMedia Guardians of the Galaxy Video: • WHY I (still) LOVE GUA...
Hey! How ya doin’? It’s HiTop, HiTop Films here to talk about James Gunn and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is Not an MCU Movie, because first and foremost it is a James Gunn movie. If it were in the MCU it would probably be the Best MCU Movie. I straight up adored this thing man. Rocket Raccoon has been my favorite MCU character since his first appearance, and the amount of empathy that James Gunn has put into him is astounding. This is yet another MCU Video Essay. I know, I know. Don’t blame me, blame the Guardians of The Galaxy for being one of the best superhero movie trilogies ever. Thank you for watching this Guardians of the Galaxy Video Essay, this Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 Review, whatever you want to call it. Thank you for your love and support.

𝘏𝘪𝘛𝘰𝘱 𝘍𝘪𝘭𝘮𝘴 𝘕𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘋𝘪𝘴𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘰𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘴 ❤‍🔥 If Sony really wanted to make Morbius 2 🦇 more of a tangible piece of art & passion rather than a meme then they need to switch it's genre from Superhero to body-horror and they must hire S. Craig Zahler to direct this, because he's an astonishing director, who never pulled his punches and who never feared to showcase brutality/violence with a neo-noir style and an extremely brilliant storytelling 🖤 Just look at his filmography:- 1. Bone Tomahawk (2015) - 91% based on 95 reviews 2. Brawl in Cell Block 99 (2017) - 90% based on 93 reviews 3. Dragged Across Concrete (2018) - 76% based on 151 reviews All of them are masterpieces 💥

Good video Good movie, I’ve liked it better than all the entries of the last phase - but I do feel bad that the team up hallway fight kills a bunch of experiments that half the movie is about following rockets past, killing them is like killing rocket, floor or liya. I can forgive mantis not wanting to use her powers on peter in act 1 but doing it on draxx in act 3, that’s a joke not a whole theme for the film.🦝🦦🐇 This might be Draco’s last film, wish he had more drama and less comedy but I like where they leave him in knowhere. The gotg video game did a better job fleshing out his dead family.

When you put it that way it’s almost like an ‘acceptance’ of his trauma. Denying he was a raccoon was kind of like denying his past. “I’m not a raccoon, this didn’t happen to me, this wasn’t who I was” It isn’t until he revisits this place that has been haunting him and confronts his past that he can say, “yes, these horrible things did happen to me, yes I came from this awful place. "the name's Rocket, Rocket Raccoon." *drops mic so hard.* now i've seen the movie, i agree even more with my own comment, if that's not a bad thing to say. poor rocket, Teefs and Floor. and it's significant that, during the flashback before rocket says, "i'm done runnin'", he sees Flor's body in his mind's eye. i think he feels as much guilt about her death as he does Lylla's, if not more. if he didn't, why think of Floor and not Lylla when mentally summing up his reasons for going into aret labratories? Rocket had a special relationship with Floor the rabbit. they were cage mates, she would curl up with him, I think he felt extra protective of her.

"A love letter to the abused" Damn, that part really hit hard. These days, many stories try to make the audience sympathize with the villain and then forget or devalue the hurt they put others through. Their victims either have to get over it or they're "overreacting" for the sake of the villain's arc. Then when the hero messes up there is no room for redemption.

The High Evolutionary is a great representation of how an abusive dynamic punishes success and failure, and how you are only as valuable as you are useful. It's a message and behavior pattern that creates broken people that learn to either give up, or perpetrate. Truly escaping that looks like being able to love and accept yourself as you are, breaking codependent patterns, making and enforcing strong boundaries, and living in defiance of the broken systems we grew up in. It's a painful, but rewarding experience, and it is so well reflected over the course of the Guardians films, especially the nonlinear process of progress. Take care, much love y'all.

I like how the entire plot of the movie isn't about saving the universe from a world ending scenario or your usual "Avengers level threat." It's really just the Guardians trying to save the life of one of their own which opens up a deeper can of worms from there on out. The plot can't get anymore character-driven than that and I appreciate it. Usually third and final entries like this would go bigger in terms of scale and stakes, but not this one. It feels more personal and more grounded, and that just feels special. A special way to end a special trilogy.

another thing i think the guardians trilogy does so well is showing you don’t have to be the “perfect victim”. if victims of abuse don’t act “perfect”, their story and life can be discredited. but guardians shows how these deeply flawed characters were hurt and how they act badly bc of it, but we still love them bc they are deeply flawed. i feel like if rocket or peter or gamora weren’t as flawed as they are, their backstories wouldn’t have much impact.

I was teary-eyed from the very beginning, looking at those innocent baby raccoons scrambling and playing together, then all stop in fear once the monster that an abuser is appears to prey on them. Evrey flashback I had tears held back if they weren't already flowing, anyone who's experienced abuse knows those moments of joy you cling to before you're exposed to more fear and pain from those who cause it. I always loved rocket but now i can fully relate and love him wholeheartedly with his backstory and character out and open. Empathy for animals and children is tenfold with how innocent and vulnerable they are to those who are in control of them and it breaks my heart. Not even just rocket was incredible in this moive, each character with their own struggles and pain gotten their each and own well deserved conclusions. One of the things I’d like to point out is that Peter Quill’s backpack contains a Panthro action figure, which is not only fitting since Thundercats aired from 1985-88 (perfectly fitting in the age bracket for Peter to have seen it from when he was 5-8), but the Thundercats themselves were Alien man-cats and the Guardians are on Counter-Earth, which not only sounds a bit like Third Earth but is populated by sapient humanoid animals. Hell, the 2011 iteration of ThunderCats had plans to reveal that it was Mumm-Ra who created the Animals by mixing animal and human dna in a series of experiments similar to what the High Evolutionary was doing. What I’m trying to say is that James Gunn is a genius (but we already knew that)

Nebula or Mantis telling Drax that his purpose is to be a father is where I started crying. When Dog Days Are Over started playing, I knew I wasn’t going to be able to hold back tears. This movie actually made me cry in front of my girlfriend. Seeing Peter finally see his old man and hug him made me cry even more. Rockets dancing with Groot and his final scream of joy and happiness made me cry even more. There are plenty of characters who’ve gone through Rocket’s character arc, but something about him and how his character has been written made me actually love seeing him happy. Like it was earned, deserved, and how he actually should be. I actually like seeing a happy rocket. So many writers turn characters similar to Rocket into being better people, and I never feel it. This time I felt it. It was an amalgamation of so many things when it comes to his character. This ending was bittersweet. The characters may have not gotten what they wanted, but they got what they needed. Not just in family, but in themselves. They have new goals in life. This movie spoke to me on so many levels. I cried because I realized this was the last time we’d see all of the guardians together. The only MCU movies that give me a hint of that Sam Raimi Spider-Man trilogy feeling with how grounded it is, even in the larger MCU. James Gunn outdid himself. People are forgetting to mention how beautiful of a review this is. The second half feels like a poem or a speech, you can hear and feel the emotion in his voice. I don’t have the right words to describe it but the words “beautiful” and “relatable”. The words he speaks and the tone in which he says it carry the motivation that the Guardians trilogy gives. I too want to write or speak a motivational piece. Honestly, a beautiful review on a beautiful movie from a beautiful trilogy. This movie, even just having watched it once, will forever be in my top 5 favorite movies. Usually when watching a show or movie, my eyes only get watery and dry up or one single tear will fall down. But this movie, this movie is the first time I’ve sobbed while watching since the ending of How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World. Even with HTTYD, I wasn’t really sobbing, I just kept crying all the way from the theater, the car ride home, and the final moments before I fell asleep that night. But with this movie, the first scene I teared up for was the first scene about Rocket’s backstory. The scene where I lost it was when Rocket first met his friends, when he first met Lylla. When Lylla told Rocket, “It’s ok friend, don’t let them scare you”, and when Rocket said his first word, I lost it. They way Lylla showed so much love and care for Rocket touched my heart, it was the type of love and care I long and wish for whenever I’m sad or hurt. And that “hurts” hurt my soul, but probably not as much as Rocket was hurting. This movie is gold storytelling and deserves to be nominated at the Oscars and deserves at least a dozen of awards. And please, I need a Lylla Otter plush and a stuffed animal of the rest of the furry friends. God bless this wonderful movie and James Gunn❤

I think Gunn epitomizes an earlier era of superhero filmmaking. One that relied on either absurdly talented individuals or ones with a real take on the material. Don’t get me wrong. Even in the earlier 2000s, you had Mark Steven Johnson(daredevil, ghost rider) type of guys hired to get a job done, but you also had Sam Raimi, Christopher Nolan, Bryan Singer(I know. I know), Guillermo del Toro, Ang Lee, etc. It hasn’t been all bad this decade with James Gunn, Joss Whedon(I know, I know again), Ryan Coogler, Snyder(though my feelings on him are mixed), etc. These were commercial projects, but there was a level of artistry and individuality. Hollywood still wasn’t unsure with this was a fad that would go away. Now that they have proven to be so successful, they decided to hire tv directors and talented indie filmmakers with no experience doing big films at a rapid pace. Look not everyone one of these can be winners, but if you’re batting average is one truly great movie(totally subjective of course) every 9 movies now…….maybe it’s time to slow down and think about the people you hire and trust them and not too many “you gotta set up this other movie” demand.

Wat. How you gonna leave out the Russo bros? Winter Soldier, Civil War, Infinity War. Those three are all in the same tier as TDK, Logan, and First Class / Days of Future Past. MAYBE Guardians 3 is in that tier. Honestly its probably not, although the guardians trilogy as a collection is. And I love Guardians 3- its an instant top 5 for me. Raimi made a superhero film like last year which I love but y'all didn't but that was incredibly stylized. Del Toros superhero films were good but not in the upper echelon. Ang Lee only made Hulk and it was NOT good. Anyway, its just weird how yall try and act like current MCU projects lack vision and signature. In the grand timeline, there was a 5 year gap between two top tier projects - Infinity War and Guardians 3. What happened during that time? Uh, a global pandemic that screwed up everyone's plans. The death of one of the intended MCU leads. Im ignoring Endgame and No Way Home which many if not most will consider top tier. Thats 4 within a 5 year period. My point is, Gunn doesnt represent a return to form. He doesnt represent an earlier era. There have always been mid and shit and overly commercialzed superhero movies. We just never had them in the WAKE of Infinity War, the greatest cbm of all time. The heroin of superhero films, making everything else seem mid by comparison. This RU-vidr claiming that Guardians isnt an MCU film. As if there weren't other MCU projects that directly contributed to character growth. Gunn can complain about Gamora dying or Starlord lashing out at Thanos. Or say Drax was made into a comic relief- as if that wasnt a specific criticism levied at Guardians 2. But his lead - Rocket - as well as Groot both received excellent treatment and character work in the Avengers movies. Same with Nebula. And that character work directly contributes to Guardians 3.

I get the feeling they are often pre visualized. As for Raimi, i actually really enjoyed Multiverse of Madness for what he brought to it. I think the big Russo team ups are still fun, but have lost their power a bit for me. If I had to narrow down the best or favorite since 2013, 10 years ago I’d say in no particular order Into the Spider-Verse The Batman Logan Guardians of the Galaxy The Suicide Squad Captain America: Winter Soldier Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2 Black Panther Zack Snyder’s Justice League Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3 Hm: Deadpool, Wonder Woman, Endgame, Ragnarok, multiverse of madness,

I didn't, because I'm not nuts, but man... that villain was a scumbag. Chukwudi is an AMAZING actor and should get an award for playing this role.

Guardians 3 made me feel things I didn't think I'd ever even feel. I still feel slightly sick after watching it for a second time, in the best possible way where there's just so many emotions going through me. It was an excellent choice that Rocket brutalizing his abuser didn't even feel triumphant, it wasn't like anyone was jumping out of their seats cheering and jeering. The movie didn't shy away from pain, instead it made it's audience understand and empathize with Rocket's actions in the worst possible way. You know in your heart you would never want to do that to anyone, and kindhearted Rocket sure as hell wouldn't either. But his maker just wasn't human. His creation and life were so twisted and vile, and he was ONLY an abuser to Rocket. He gave Rocket nothing but pain. Seeing that emotional burst from Rocket, him letting everything go and just hitting, scratching, biting, was heart wrenching. I don't even have the words to fully describe what I went through in that scene. James Gunn is an artist, for the love of god watch this movie if you haven't already.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 is a MCU movie, but its the last of the MCU movies that we grew up on, the ones we loved, something we may never get back again.

Last time I ever cried at an MCU movie was Guardians Vol. 2. Vol. 3 made me cry so many times. Especially when the screen cuts to black knowing this group of misfits wont come back. This movie broke me in the best way possible.

There should have been more dialogue between Rocket and Quill. All that emotional buildup to Rocket's survival and the conversations are lacking.

I just watched the movie yesterday, and I have never had such a delayed reaction to what's going on. It took over like 20 minutes to process one of the most emotional scenes in Rocket's backstory. Ever since the first movie, I've always been emotionally attached to Rocket and Peter. All of these characters in the GOTG films just feel absolutely real. The last two times I cried during a Marvel movie were Wakanda Forever and GOTG Vol. 2(I watched it for the first time in February of this year-). I'm so happy James Gunn is back his movies are beautiful.

I came to the same realization yesterday actually. The GOTG movies aren’t MCU movies, they’re James Gunn movies. That’s why I loved them the most out of the movies in the MCU, with only the earliest of movies falling under “like” (with the exception of No Way Home which was just clean)

I felt the human experience through a raccoon and I feel that is something I would have never said in my life. James Gunn made an amazing movie. I feel like he is perfect for DC because the strongest theme DC has to offer may be gods among men, but to me it's how gods are just like us. I feel he can breathe new light into a what feels soulless franchise.

Never been a mcu fan, and never really have any emotion when i watch all sorts of movies, but out of all films the last thing i expected to start bawling my eyes out over was a Cybernetic Raccoon and Otter so much. James Gunn is a special director and although I was disappointed with the firing of Cavill, I feel reassured knowing how much I enjoyed this film.

Just turned 21 and I grew up with the marvel movies, the first 2 GOTG have always been my favourite had been dead special to me, I absolutely loved the change up in tone with this, felt very personal and respected every character we’ve come to love. Had me in tears a few times especially with the ending, felt very bitter sweet but a perfect round off to my favourite trilogy :)

James Gunn is so passive aggressive in this movie against disney. Peter's explaination of what happened to Gamora in Infinity War, Rocket basically is James Gunn and The High Evolutionary is Disney. James left Disney only to give them the best MCU movie, and Disney wanting him back for his genius film making. brillaint.

James Gunn was able to make a group of wacky ridiculous characters more relatable than any other Comic book movie ever has (in my opinion). That alone was a feat of greatness. But he also manages to make me cry more than any other comic book movie... AND then laugh more than any other comic book movie. In my opinion Guardians is the best comic book trilogy ever made. They manage to be emotional, funny, action packed, relatable and creative, while somehow also being so grounded. Incredibly impressive

I cried 3 seperate times. I almost threw my phone at the big screen when The High Evolutionary mocked Rocket's gut-wrenching, guttural cry of pain. I felt this ache deep, deep down in my gut watching Rocket and his old friends, his first friends, as they talked and danced and laid around in a circle, dreaming. And I laughed. I actually, genuinely laughed and smiled at the jokes, at the tender moments. I felt for Peter and for Drax and Mantis, Rocket and Nebula, even for Warlock and this icier version of Gamora, though I still saw the tender looks with both of them. This wasn't a good Marvel movie. This was just a damn good movie. Props to everyone involved with it, and I hope they're proud of the amazing piece of art they've created. And amazing video as always Hi-Top, you getting choked up made ME get choked up and just... ugh. This movie doles out so many feelings. I can't say enough. ♥
