Oh boy, yes? Another HiTop Films Spider-Man Video, Another HiTop Spider-Man take. To me, Spider-Man: Homecoming is a Bad Spider-Man Movie, to me, Spider-Man: Far From Home Broke My Heart, and then the question on my mind was simple, the question was… Will Spider-Man: No Way Home Break Me? I’m still crazy, making 2 Spider-Man Video Essay, rants in a month. As always, much love to everyone.

You have to take two things into account: this version of Peter not only restrains himself, he doesnt punch people, in this scene he is not only punching someone, that someone is laughing back, and you see just how confused Peter is, this is not Thanos, this is a human being, and he is enjoying a beating, a beating he is giving him with the super strength he never uses against other people. While Dafoe steals the scene (and makes you wonder what the fuck where they thinking when they casted Jared Leto as an old Joker), Tom''s confused expresion while seeing such chaotic nature is also pretty good.

The "non epic" reveal of Andrew and Tobey is actually better than people make it out to be. The core of Spider-Man isn't what he can do himself, but what he can do to inspire others to hope again. And after Tom has lost his Aunt May, his trust, his peace, what better way for him to hope again, by meeting other Spider-Men that also lost everything. It's humble.

When you look at the "Home" Trilogy as sort of an elongated origin of Spider-Man, it makes more sense. Peter had to go through all of this stuff to fully become the hero we know him to be in other comic and film iterations. Now his story as a Spider-MAN can officially begin.

Exactly. The homecoming trilogy is his origin story. Each film he learns a different lesson in becoming a hero. And it makes it that much harder here when he has to give up everything because we got to see him actually work to get those things. And then bam he has to lose them.

One thing I’m personally so happy about after finally getting to see the movie, is that they avoided the probably very high temptation to have the spider-men fight each other, criticise each other and stuff before finally reconciling and working together (Avengers style) it was really heartwarming to see them treat each other like family, caring about each other, show warmth and compassion towards one another. Made me fall in love with the characters more and realise why spider-man is amazing

What makes the ending of this movie so good is not just that we now have classic Peter Parker in his shitty apartment, struggling to pay rent, feeling lonely, making his own suit, etc. while being being a superhero, but that unlike other iterations of Spider-Man, THIS Peter wasn't just given a bad hand in life-he actively CHOSE it. For the good of the world, he CHOSE to give up his friends and mentors, CHOSE to give up Stark tech and money, CHOSE to give up his bright future. He sacrificed everything that made him the cool Iron Man Jr. and chose to be classic Spider-Man instead. That, to me, makes this one of the most faithful depictions of the heart of Spider-Man we've ever gotten onscreen, even with all the crazy shit thrown in.

Well, actually, in the comics Peter first attains his powers, he becomes a celebrity and uses his powers selfishly. It's only after he loses Uncle Ben that he finds the motivation to be selfless. Uncle Ben's death is what births the Peter Parker who makes sacrifices to do the right thing. Losing Ben grows Peter's heart. In other words, in the comics, Spider-man is born first, then Peter Parker follows afterwards. On the other hand, Holland's Peter Parker is already a selfless person. Not comic accurate, definitely not realistic, but there's still a lot to be liked about Holland's Parker. In the MCU movies, the goodness in Peter Parker has always existed, just as the goodness in Ben Parker has always existed. But he doesn't really become Spider-man until he sacrifices the Iron Man tech and the relationships that supported him, and continues to overcome all ordeals that silently discourage him from doing the right thing. In other words, MCU Peter Parker had no problem doing the right thing, but of course he would do the right thing, because doing the right thing was never a challenge for MCU Spidey. He never had to sacrifice anything concrete or permanent until this movie.

Disagree with the other two appearing in a “non-epic” way. They appeared in the most humble of ways, like a great superhero who like us is also an everyman. He’s not Superman, he’s not Iron Man, he’s Spider-Man. Spider-Man is a hero unlike any other, there’s many reasons why he’s so beloved, why he’s recognized across the world. The feeling of them I had coming in like that was unparalleled, they got to be in the movie for a much longer time than I expected and than what would’ve happened if they just appeared all “epic like” in the final fight out of nowhere for a few minutes

@@346Yoman Yes because Ned is a humble person and believes immediately in magic, remember how skeptical and egotistical Strange was for the longest time? @@NESShadows NO WAY HOME destroyed dr strange character arc for me. He has always been adamant about not using his magical abilities to impact the fate of the universe. Yet he used spell that works on a multiverse level for peter. I can understand that was because they were friends and strange wanted to help him. But why the hell did he changed conditions of the spell according to Peter like he was taking orders from him. He could have simply used the spell without any conditions or could have simply stopped using the spell to make peter understand what will happen if something goes wrong. They made him lose to Spiderman especially in the mirror dimension where he is in CONTROL using "MATH". Even though he has 2 PHd's and is a doctor. WOW! And in top of that they made ned easily open a portal when it took strange many weeks of harsh training to accomplish. If you remember Dr strange movie the sorcerers have to extract energy from other dimensions to summon shield , swords , portal ,etc it's not as easy as wearing the sling ring and making a wish. So they basically made a clown out of the master of mystic arts and disrespected the whole concept of mystic arts. Hopefully they redeem him in the upcoming sequel😶🙏
@NESShadows
@NESShadows 2 года назад
@@imposter6952 Wow you don’t get it do you? “We’ve used it for a lot less” Strange said. He sees Peter wanting to help others over himself. What did Strange learn in his movie? “It’s not about you.” Then what else does Strange say? “Wong, hasn’t he been through enough?” And then he didn’t just change the spell for Peter, he changed it for himself an extra time so he wouldn’t forget Peter. I don’t know if you ever finished high school and went to college but math is considered a perfect language. One mistake and the whole thing falls apart, when done right it cannot he disproven. Peter used his impressively high IQ (he’s smarter than Strange in academics as compared to the profession of being a surgeon since Strange went to a focused degree in college while Peter is still in high school) and quick thinking to use the perfect mathematic principles with his webbing to trap Strange who wasn’t expecting it so it caught him off guard. Strange without using his powers is basically just a guy unless he uses a protection spell which he didn’t because he and Peter were not trying to kill each other. Strange’s focus was on the box over everything. And Ned being able to open up portals makes a bit of sense when you consider that Ned is a humble person and believes in magic unlike Strange in the first movie who was arrogant and stubborn to a fault and couldn’t accept supernatural things for a long time. They say that the power of belief and determination triumph over those who only have interest. Belief in the mystical arts from the get go seems like a key factor in being able to perform. I’m not saying Strange didn’t struggle but it was also a mental battle with himself, which culminates in his arc when he learns from the Ancient One “It’s not all about you”
@imposter6952

@@NESShadows You don't get it do you?? Ned being able to use mystic arts doesn't make any sense at all. You should definitely rewatch dr strange movie or atleast the part where the ancient one explains him how mystic arts works ,you will understand why it bugs me. There's a lot to it and just being humble and having belief in magic is not sufficient. Its like telling you know whole concepts of geometry just because your calculation speed is good. Ned easily opening portals just by wearing a sling ring and making a wish to open portals just disrespected all sorcerers working hard in kamar taj , the origin of Dr. stange and the whole concept Of mystic arts. I already told you that i am ok with dr.strange using his magical abilities to help peter BUT him altering the conditions of the spell just bcoz peter asked him to doesn't make sense coz true strange would never put the whole universe in danger just to fix Peter's problems in which strange had no part to play. Peter created those problems in his life ,not strange and yet he decided to help him bcoz 'ITS NOT ABOUT YOU" isn't that enough , why did they destroyed his character by making him put the whole universe at risk ? As you mentioned , the message given by ancient one "It's not about you" is violated in this movie bcoz strange putting the whole universe in danger for solving his friends problem doesn't make any sense. The thing is ,the movie was fun to watch but the mistakes and number of plotholes in this movies has disappointed me in some manner

I can't believe that you ignored the Goblin and his crazy dynamic with Tom. "I’ve watched you from deep behind Norman’s cowardly eyes, struggling to have everything you want, while the world tries to make you choose. Gods don’t have to choose. We take." "Strong enough to have it all....to weak to take it." “He got it from you! That pathetic sickness!" “Your weakness is morality, It’s choking you, can you feel it?” "Peter, no good deed goes unpunished. I will fix you. You will thank me later." "Attaboy." THE GOBLIN HAS THE BEST LINES IN THIS MOVIES. Everything he did was to push Spider-Man into becoming what he is, a cold killer (that's the reason why he killed the poor May ç__ç). The way Goblin laughs at Peter when he's punching his face was some shit. He wants Peter to be violent, he wants Peter to kill him, and that only makes him even happier. Even in their final fight, Goblin knew he couldn't take on an enraged Spider-Man so he goaded him to take him down and mess him up one last time for good. Best part of the movie.

Honestly I think it’s genius that they used each veteran Spider-Man to show Toms Spider the core values of the character. Andrew shows that no matter how hard he tries he *can’t save everyone* and will always *experience loss* even if no one remembers him. Toby shows that he must push past the pain both physical and emotional, and *always show mercy* even if the person you’re fighting doesn’t truly deserve it, and in doing that *always use his powers RESPONSIBLY* no matter what happens. I also personally think that it gives this Peter some closure that he know there are people somewhere out there that know exactly what he’s going through, so he’s (in a sense) not completely alone in his heroic suffering.

I think the scene in Civil War where Tony refers to Peter as "Spiderboy" held a bit more implications for what they were going for with MCU Spiderman than initially thought. Take it a bit further with Peter replying with "It's Spider-Man" followed by Tony saying "Not in that onesie you're not". It makes the fact that Peter made himself a brand new suit at the end of this movie feel like everything came full circle. His boy years are over. He is now truly Spider-Man.

Tom's Peter is in the second semester of his Senior year of highschool and is working on getting his GED at the end of NWH. Andrew's Spidey got a monster head start and graduated a whole movie after becoming Spider-Man. Talking strictly age, there was no time wasted whatsoever. And talking real world time, if anything, Tom's spidey showed up too soon. Amazing 2 was just under 2 years removed when the MCU gave us Tom on the big screen. Would it have been nice to get a movie like this sooner? Absolutely. But it's here now and that extra movie helps make what Tom's Peter goes through in NWH hit a bit harder. We get to watch an established child get his whole world flipped upside down after 5 movies/real years of being fairly happy-go-lucky in the face of catastrophe.

I find it strange that this Spider-Man movie is almost everything HiTop wanted. I agree that the first bit of this movie was a bit MCU-formulaic, but when Peter Parker starts putting his friends over himself, christ it just feels like an honest and genuine kid. Throughout this whole movie he puts others before himself, he makes the responsible choices and suffers the consequences for that, he suffers consequences for everything he’s done- in fact, this Peter Parker follows exactly what Aunt May told Tobey in Spider-Man 2: “... And they give up the things they love most. Even their dreams.” Tom follows this ideal by giving up on becoming friends with MJ & Ned because he realizes that the responsible thing is to get them out of harms way. This is obviously a movie that was trying to correct the wrong of Peter Parker, that’s why we have the Great Power line, that’s why we have Peter having his life fall to ruin just so everyone can thrive, that’s why we have a Peter Parker with his own red & blue suit, a Peter Parker who lives in a shitty apartment looking out for crime... This is why Tom Holland’s Peter Parker is TRULY Spider-Man now. But I just can’t help but see that HiTops is so pushy and picky about Marvel CGI, and I get it, I truly do, but does the CGI really ruin this heartfelt story? Does CGI really mean story- a spider-man story? I don’t think so.

Exactly my point dude. I have no clue how this man always finds flaws in a great and beautiful movie that essentially always end up "breaking him". Does the CGI (which I agree is not the best in some scenes) really play a big part in this story of a comic accurate and responsible Peter Parker we always wished for from the MCU movies? And this movie also had some stunningly shot sequences but HiTop doesn't seem to acknowledge them anywhere. Idk man he just seems too captured by the raimi movies to even say good stuff about the mcu movies. He acts like the movie did huge injustice to the villains but that's not the case at all, the legendary villains were much more than just a couple meme dialogues brought back from old movies.

This film was beautiful. Andrew’s Peter becoming darker because of Gwen’s death is OUTSTANDING, him looking at Peter and MJ with a heartbroken look before being reminded by Tobey that he can find love again is brilliant. I love the fact that “Great Power, comes Great Responsibility” connects the Peter’s just as much as their names and their masks. Them talking about their own unique individual heartbreaks, comparing villains and Tobey and Andrew being AWFUL partners because they aren’t used to it and that’s when Holland’s Spider-Man to me establishes himself with this one moment as a different Spider-Man by becoming a leader and making them work together successfully as a team because he was an Avenger and learnt how to work in a team quickly. The ending to this film is perfect and genuinely got me so excited for the future. An apartment, a homemade suit that looks and feels like Spider-Man, a fun swing through New York and a Spider-Boy being replaced by the Spider-Man. Peter leaving Ned and MJ after he made the world forget who Peter Parker is so he can let them live a happy life (something he always wanted for them) is perfect and a great ending to the trilogy, I expect to see them in Iron Heart as she is in MIT with them. And yes, I want to see TASM 3. This film never said which Spider-Man was better, it let them have conversations about their own failures and things they need to improve or have improved on. This film showed (on purpose) what Spider-Man should and shouldn’t be. Nostalgia was there but it was to help the story and make it fresh and unique. I still think this Peter Parker is lacking that iconic swinging sequence in terms of it looking good visually. I loved the ending but I felt like it didn’t show off the suit well like I felt like it wanted to do. I’m excited for Freshmen Year on Disney Plus and Spider-Man 4 in the MCU and HOPEFULLY TASM3 in the future. EDIT: by the way, the shot of Peter in the rain with JJJ talking on the big screen is some of the best cinematography the MCU has seen since Phase 1 and the best cinematography in a Spider-Man film since TASM 2. It was beautiful and felt like a different film almost. I wish we got more of those stunning visuals honestly.

10:37 Show’s New Aunt May being a caring parental figure while complaining she isn’t a well established caring parent. When you were editing the video was your mindset that you chose visuals of Aunt May to line up with the topic at hand? Because you made yourself look like a fool. 7:29 literally shows one of the coolest shots in any Spider-Man movie while talking about how the movie is shot super flat, and poorly. Boy that editing is embarrassing. This vid was embarrassingly bad. He didn’t really make arguments, or I guess he did, but he just said them, & didn’t elaborate much on them. 7:40 I don’t get why he complained about Peters being revealed at Ned’s grandparents house. Does he think they have to be revealed in like the coolest place ever? Like in a mansion, or a space ship. Tobey walking through the portal and just casually saying hi and not wanting to scare anyone because he feels like he’s intruding is the most friendly neighborhood Spider-Man feeling you can get. What’s wrong with that? Like seriously what’s the huge problem here HiTop that it ruined it for you? Do you seriously need it to be shot like the most epic thing ever, and be in these huge awesome mouth dropping locations to enjoy the scene? Do you just not have good attention span? When any movie that’s not Sci-if or magical fantasy, do they just make you fall asleep after 5 seconds because they’re shot in normal environments? Hey HiTop remember all those times in the Raimi Trilogy when you’re just in normal houses and apartments. I bet you’d say that’s fine, but oh no when John Watts Spider-Man is shot in a normal looking environment oh then it’s a big problem. Yep because I guess if John Watts Spider-Man is just being the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man in his friends grandparents house it’s a problem, but not when all the times it happened in Raimi it’s totally fine. 8:22 It’s funny how you flip your view points so quickly too, like you give it a negative when you say the movie is edited for applause then complain when the movie is shot in a normal location, and not being super epic. Wow you just flipped positions real fast like so quickly with 2 statements that are not even 30 seconds apart, you freaking hypocrite. I really wish you could just take one scene from this movie and thoroughly explain why the scene doesn’t work for 10 minutes, instead of whatever garbage this video was when I feel like I received nothing all the way through. Good lord this video is terrible. How can anyone take you seriously when you clearly just have a huge negative bias over the John Watts Spider-Man and will find any reason to crap on him no matter how hypocritical, and stupid it makes you look. No Way Home is fanservice done right. When you try and write out characters like Tobey and Andrew and realize "shit it doesn't work without them." THAT'S HOW YOU KNOW IT SERVICES THE PLOT. To me, NWH is a celebration of Spider-Man. I love that the first interaction with MCU Peter and Tobey Peter and Andrew Peter isnt quips. Its showing comfort and understanding and coming together because THAT'S Peter Parker. I love that they didnt have a a competition to see who's the BEST Peter Parker, rather they just connected instinctually and I LOVE THAT. It reminds me of Into the Spiderverse where rather than bicker, all the spiders came together. It just makes sense that THROUGH the Spider Sense, they'd know to trust each other. Everything about the other two spiders was perfect. Even down to their entrances. Tobey being such a DAD to the other two, was so on point for his character. Andrew putting on a mask to focus on being Spider-Man after the death of Gwen also fits. I really wanna see TASM3 where we see a not so friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. Where we see him at his lowest. People say his arc finished after catching MJ. No no no. His is just beginning. And Tobey stopping Tom from murdering Goblin I ADORE that they said NOTHING yet YOU KNOW what each actor is conveying. You can feel EVERY OUCNE of rage and pain from Tom and EVERY OUNCE of compassion and understanding from Tobey. This movie is what I didn't know MCU Spider-Man needed. But now that we have it....It makes me love MCU Peter even more than I already did. And I'm so excited to see where his future swings next. The Andrew Peter vs Tobey Peter was cute, and probably because Tobeys more honed Spider Sense kicked off. He was the one to lash out first. They both do THE EXACT SAME MOVE but Tobey gets the upper hand by webbing the web shooter. It was just a nice natural way to go "Oh yeah nah nah Tobey is the legacy character lets give him that respect." Without ragging on Tom or Andrew. Both other Spiders get standout moments. Andrew gets to save MJ. Hell Tom gives Tobey peter a run for his money when Tobey is stopping him from impaling Goblin. He nearly makes Tobeys knees buckle. I’ve been thinking about MCU Peter’s journey a lot and the conclusion that I’ve come to is that, considering this is the first Peter Parker that has had other super powered people by his side, they really did the best they could have with the character. Peter is just a kid when we meet him in Civil War, probably just a Sophomore or Junior in high school. Of course he’s not going to be the independent Spider-Man that we know. You could make the argument that Tobey and Andrew’s Peter worked on their own so why couldn’t Tom? Well Tobey and Andrew had to deal with the reality that they were the only ones keeping the peace. No Avengers, no Stark, nothing. But with Tom’s Spider-Man we did have the Avengers. Of course he’s going to stick by their side and learn from them. That’s why No Way Home is so beautiful, Peter realizes that he can’t stay a kid forever and eventually he’s going to have to leave everyone and start fending for himself. Seeing Tobey and Andrew only solidifies that fact. And that’s the moment where he truly becomes Spider-MAN. I wouldn’t say that No Way Home “fixed” the MCU Spider-Man, I would say that No Way Home “finished” the origin story of the MCU Spider-Man

Technically this is far from the first time Peter's been born into a world with other superheroes. By the time Spider-Man was introduced in the comics, the Fantastic Four had already been around for about a year and were actually pretty instrumental to his early years, as he grew up being inspired by them and even attempted to join them unsuccessfully. The F4 even consider him like an extended family member now

I really disagree. This isn't the best they could do with Tom Holland's version of Spider-Man. Look, personally to me, the problem isn't just Peter/Spider-Man idolizing the Avengers and learning from them, the problem is that the (MCU) Spider-Man films are comedic-toned. Don't get me wrong, I like a comedic take as well and I did enjoy the films, but it takes away realism from the story. It contradicts with the Spider-Man that I and many others idolize. Being superhero has consequences. Your family gets in danger, you can't keep up with your life, relationship problems, a possible *identity crisis* , etc. There's nothing like that in those films. Take an example, in Spider-Man Far From Home, it really was unbelievable to me that nobody (Peter's friends/schoolmates and Happy and Fury/Talos) died when Beck even had full control of thousands of drones of Stark Industries (and Ned and MJ were to be killed by him as they knew his secret that he is not a hero). In fact, even when MJ hits a drone with, I guess halberd, the drone starts spinning speedly firing bullets 360⁰; but yeah no one gets shot. Neither Happy who juuust survived from getting shot while saying "How does Cap do that?" Like, how much coincidents can there really be? There were like 4-5 people there and EVERYONE survives! The previous Spider-Man franchises did handle these things better, uncle Ben dies in Spider-Man, Harry in Spider-Man 3 and Gwen in the Amazing Spider-Man 2. And the characters feel very unrealistic too, due to the way they act for comedic sake. Once again take the final act of Far From Home. Flash Thompson is 'recording' or taking pictures via his cellphone at a time when he is about to get killed. What is this, who does that? Again, it works great as a comedic scene, but is unrealistic. A serious story like that where Mysterio gets access to MANY Stark Industries' drones, gets ruined due to the direction (nobody dies and the jokes are still on). Are you expecting me to consider Mysterio a threat, who can't even kill a bunch of normal kids (plus an adult)? Also about aunt May, she had been quite supportive of Peter being Spider-Man, not because she feels it's good to fight for people (in pre-No Way Home films), but because she thinks her nephew is cool. Plus, she also doesn't worry about him contrary to Marvel's Spider-Man (2018) game where she confirms she did worry yet was proud of who Peter was. And finally coming to the 'best Marvel movie of all time': Spider-Man No Way Home. People say there're lots of consequences in this film, but I think there are just a couple of 'em. First off, the world knows Peter Parker is Spider-Man, so what do you think should happen to him? A possible arrest till the court could convict him guilty, attacks on the people close to him, attack on Peter himself. Who knows crime lords (like Tombstone, Wilson Fisk, etc.) may cleverly take advantage of the situation and propose some offers to Spider-Man if he agrees to do what they say. Maybe due to his secret identity gone, it leads to a social boycott and it becomes difficult from him and his aunt to earn money. Oh yeah, no money problems allowed in the MCU, right? So yeah, there is no real consequence out his identity being public. How could even the people around him be so safe while he is down hunting bad guys like Doc Ock on the bridge? In the Civil War comic, aunt May dies as Spidey's villains find out who he really is after Tony persuades him to give up his secret identity (if you're gonna remind me of aunt May dying in No Way Home, let me tell you that it had nothing to do with the secret identity thingy but with Peter trying to cure the multiverse villains who eventually betray him). The only consequence *out of Spider-Man's identity* is that he and his friends couldn't get into the MIT. Oh, sorry, they will eventually get in. Summing it up, the only consequence in No Way Home has been Peter losing aunt May, and everybody forgetting him as if he never existed leading to separation from his friends. There's just SO MUCH you could do with Spider-Man's identity reveal, but NO, they did nothing. Honestly, Spidey was never unmasked before so it could've been a great time to tell the story with realism: how a kid from Queens suddenly is under pressure and force, exposed to attack from many criminals, villains and even the civilians whom he faithfully rescues, just after the world figures out who Spider-Man is! This plot is so fascinating, but the movie overlooked it and focused more on the spider-verse instead. Imagine how more impactful Tobey and Andrew's conversation with Tom on the rooftop could've been if Tom had suffered the consequences of being the friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man. It would hit harder considering that suddenly Tom's Peter's life turns *upside-down* , causing troubles and stress and pain far greater than what the older brothers of him ever did. Anyway, so now do you see how much better the writers could have done with Spider-Man existing in the MCU alongside other Marvel heroes? What they did, wasn't at all the best.

But I’m pleased to say I’m genuinely impressed by how the film makers handled this project. No it’s not perfect, but considering what they had to accomplish in a single movie, it’s a miracle this movie turned out as good as it is. Some of the emotional resonance is definitely held up by the past Spider-Man films providing some context for the “new” MCU characters, but it wasn’t overused. So excited to see what they can now do with Peter

I agree with a lot of your takes, but I'd be lying if I said this didn't feel a little too harsh. Sure, the MCU style hindered the beginning, but there was still a set of creative decisions, especially in the camerawork. The longer tracking shots kept the film feeling dynamic and engaging, allowing the viewer to feel like they're there in the room, keeping us on our toes for whatever comes into the frame next. There was the issue of flat lighting, but it didn't really distract from the spectacle of the swinging scenes imo. Also, come on, you couldn't bring up Dafoe's performance? It shook me to my core when he just kept smiling through Tom's punches. Also, the relationship between the Peters, and the different aspects of the role each brought with them was palpable, and the dialogue they share is clever and genuine. The actors really brought their A game here, and I even laughed at a couple Ned lines for once. Aunt May's death didn't hit me very hard, because like you said, they never really made me care about her, and god was I happy when the investigator brought up how insane it is that she was so encouraging of Peter's life-threatening actions instead of being worried, easily my least favorite thing about their relationship. But Peter's vulnerability in that scene showed me that there was hope for MCU Spider-Man, and that was only proven further by the ending of the film. They had everyone forget him, they cut him off from the rest of the MCU without taking him out of the world, and now he has no one but himself to rely on. That's truly Spider-Man. Also, that last line with MJ? "It doesn't hurt anymore." Genius. Love that they let that linger, and Tom's expression in that entire scene was cathartic and real. Loved the film, despite it's imperfections. Favorite of the trilogy, no doubt. Number ratings are dumb, but I do them anyway. 8.5/10, only MCU films that are better imo are the first Guardians, and Infinity War.
@swanpride
@swanpride 2 года назад
Above all: Spider-man didn't need any fixing. I liked the first movies, I liked this one, I don't think that there was no sacrifice beforehand (it is more like the level of sacrifice was raised with each movie), and I really liked the Marvel took its time to built the character up instead of just repeating what was done before. F... people who say that any fixing was necessary. Well, there was, but not of MCU Spider-man, but of the least popular Comic book story involving him EVER and they somehow managed to take the best ideas from this clusterfuck and make it good. I'm impressed.
@DanLikely
@DanLikely 2 года назад
@@swanpride I'm sorry, I disagree, I think he needed fixing for sure, for most of Peter's MCU run, he hasn't truly been Spider-Man. But that's what this all built up to, these last 6 films with him have been more of a complete origin story, just across different stages of his life. Now, he's finally got the great responsibility, he's lost one of the people (in this case THE person) that raised him and gave him his moral compass. Now he's on his own, with the weight on his shoulders alone, and he has to continue to find the strength to do the right thing without Avengers holding his hand. He's growing up, and it's high time we see that version of Spider-Man in the MCU, think similar to Insomniac's version (imo the best portrayal of the character there is). Sure, he was a kid, but even as a kid he still had the weight of his aunt/uncle's death on his shoulders, the genuine repercussions of his actions and the weight of his decisions really affected him. Homecoming did alright in that regard, and Vulture was great. But Far From Home? God, what a joke. They've definitely "fixed" MCU Spider-Man from what I can tell and thank you Kevin Feige for doing so.

You do make some valid points and criticisms against No Way Home. After all, it is not a perfect movie, no movie is. However, I feel like some of your judgements on the film are clouded by your bias towards the Raimi trilogy. Don't get me wrong, the Raimi trilogy is a masterpiece, and as a whole trilogy (from start to finish), it is the best of the three live-action Spider-Man. However, some of your criticisms such as camera shots or lack of character make no sense. You quite literally missed the points of major plot points because of this clouded judgement. Calling No Way Home bland, and comparing the raimi and webb characters coming into the MCU as "eating a gourmet meal in a KFC bathroom" is incredibly under appreciative and just utter bullshit. No Way Home did justice to every character they brought back, paying them homage. Tobey and Andrew were given really good small character arcs that felt genuine and passionate while also not taking away from Tom's character growth. You don't have to like the movie, but what you're saying just feels disingenuous or like you did not even watch the movie. I feel like the issue with your "review" is that you keep trying to compare every Spider-Man movie to what you consider as a "gold-standard" which are the Raimi films. There is not one way to do Spider-Man, and you not liking a direction they take or specific style for the movie, does not make it an automatic "bad movie" or even a "bad Spider-Man movie", for that matter. Obviously, you don't have to like anything the MCU puts out. Opinions and what you like are subjective. But when you criticise Watt's vision on really losely made points that just feel spiteful and nit-picky, it feels as if you are hating on the character and movie, just for the purpose of hating. I don't want to jump to any conclusions, but to me, you kinda seem like those Raimi fanboys who automatically hate everything just because it is not Tobey Maguire and his movies. And again, I love Tobey and all three of his movies, but that's not gonna make me reject everything else the franchise has to offer. Doing this rather than giving actual well explained constructive criticism, does not sit right with me.

@Elie Boutros exactly. I love the raimi films too, they were my childhood, and I completely respect that you prefer them over the MCU’s version but yeah HiTop is a bit extreme on this, especially since NWH felt like a celebration for the Spider-Man character as a whole. While it was Tom’s story, it felt like it was commemorating 20 years worth of cinema and I think it was beautifully done. Not perfect, I agree that the CGI was a bit sketchy in places (although, to be fair, it was made in a pandemic and they’ve already rereleased it with updated vfx), and the MCU humour is present, especially in the first half. I think the MCU humour is good but sometimes it’s taken a bit too far to the point when it takes you out of the film, but in nwh it was relatively fine. But where nwh shines is it’s story, the legacy of Spider-Man of not only the past but the set up for the future, and does everything that the end of trilogy and a celebration of films should do. Its why I overlook the nitpicky issues of the movie because they don’t negatively impact the overall enjoyment and satisfaction for the movie, atleast not for me

And it’s interesting cuz as much as you’d like to Nobody can relate to this. It’s unique to Peter. No Way Home, is in my opinion, far more effective specifically because it isn't going through the motions, Aunt May's death hits harder because I was not expecting her to die, and it brought out a side of this version of the character, that is a true escalation of the conflict because I'm not used to seeing him go that dark, nor do I expect it. On Homecoming she gets worried for Peter, which is why it makes sense that he keeps his secret hidden from her. Then FFH completely change that, with her being completely accepting of it, and not really being important to the movie. Now in NWH, she serves as his moral code, Peter's mother riminding him to do whats right, and it really works. There's also that scene in Civil War that implies the "great power" lesson to already be learnt. The shifting tone between the first two movies and this one, without any hints of it at all before. How they completely forgot about highschool drama and focused on very personal stakes. How they adressed most people's criticisms of those movies in a very direct way. Idk, it would be a VERY big surprise if it wasnt really a course correction. If I wanted NWH to be my ending to the origin, I would have done Homecoming and FFH WAAAAAAY diferently.
@wesstewart2677
@wesstewart2677 2 месяца назад
Because it was a course correction. Marvel in 2015 when it was announced we were getting a reboot: “we are not doing an origin story.” Marvel after the release of NWH: “we were actually doing an origin story the entire time.” Kinda contradictory. Also before No Way Home went the multiverse route it was very heavily rumored that the film was gonna be a Spidey vs Kraven film with a possibility of Scorpion playing a role. The whole multiverse stuff came through most likely after Sony and Marvel re-negotiated.

It's been said before, but Spider-man's story in the MCU is a microcosm of why the MCU itself is successful and continues to print millions across an absurdly hurge library of films: the idea of building a gigantic, interconnected world, for the express purpose of destroying it all in spectacular fashion. It was never a coincidence that the MCU's depiction of Vulture and Mysterio embody the biggest objections to MCU Spider-man- that he's not working class, that he's got everything from Tony. These flaws were deliberately laid into the foundation for the express purpose of being the fault lines from which everything would break apart.

Addressing the end of the video: Isn’t Spider-Man in the comics and shows ALWAYS regressing and relearning? He’s never been a perfect person, in fact that’s half the appeal. For Peter, being selfless & isn’t easy, but he’s a hero because no matter what he always comes back to that. Isn’t that basically the plot of the second Raimi movie everybody loved so much? He gives up his responsibility for selfish reasons and then returns to be the hero he knows he has to be. In the Third movie although influenced by the symbiote he becomes completely selfish and again forgets this core message. Why is it that it’s not acceptable for Holland’s Spidey to have to relearn and grow constantly, this is a core aspect of Spider-Man and always has been from what I’ve seen.

I’m a bit confused that after the movie brought Peter to his roots, exactly where HiTop wanted him, he’s now questioning the sincerity of the storytelling and how authentic it is to Tom’s Peter. Especially now with Amy Pascall saying they want to top this movie not in spectacle, but in emotion in Spider-Man 4, I feel like they’re saying all the right things, doing all the right things. The fact that this reset happens and it feels like a natural progression of Tom’s arc is an absolute miracle, and the fact that they used the villains and other Spider-Men and their experiences as ways for Tom to empathize and learn so that going forward he understands how to respond to adversity and loss. Where HiTop is consistent in his argument is his distaste for the style, but I also feel like he’s choosing to focus on the stuff he dislikes over the shots and moments that stand out and have weight.

13:37 "Tom was never truly Spiderman before" He grew up during the Avengers era, he was there when Iron Man was fighting Whiplash, it's safe to presume that he didn't choose to be Spiderman because he faced some great loss, he chose to be Spiderman after watching all the super heros he grew up in the era of. MCU Peter would choose to be spiderman because he has the powers and it would be the right thing to do, he necessarily didn't need an uncle ben moment. In Civil war he has this whole monologue about "If you can do what I do.... they happen because of you" is the groundwork showing that he had the basic spiderman philosophy but not because of someone's death, but because he grew up watching superheroes save New York He always was a Superhero, he knew how to be one by watching the Avengers, but in this film he truly became Spider-Man, the symbol of hope we all know and love.

“But this time he suffers the consequences that have been sorely missing.” I don’t think you’ve watched the first two mcu spider man movies when you say this but okay. It’s like just because mcu spider man never had an uncle Ben story on camera, now every single tragic consequence he experiences is “not dark/brutal/sad enough,” when all the while, this adaptation of Peter has undoubtedly suffered the most out of the three live action spider-men…I just don’t understand the disconnect here with people thinking peter never has any consequences for his actions when he does. And for the people who think he doesn’t know that “power and responsibility” like he should, well, he certainly does after no way home, and even in the previous two movies, he’s still maturing, he’s a teenager, marvel studios was simply taking their time for his story to come full circle as it did in no way home. Peters initial selfishness and disregard for the consequences of his actions is one of the most key parts of his maturation into the modern Spider-Man we know and love today. That is literally a focal point of his story, the focus of these movies is exploring those various consequences and arguably makes toms Peter the most developed and complex peter of the bunch. Honestly I hated tom's spidey (His acting was top notch, I mean the actual spiderman himself). He felt more like how people were describing Miles and was in the shadow of Iron Man. I understand it's a different take, but we aren't given any insight on his motivation during FFH or Homecoming. Uncle ben is non existent, but they fixed the role to Aunt may, which I liked. The ending reminded me a lot of spider-man ps4 and actually felt like someone as the working class hero. I just think that homecoming and FFH failed to capture what the character truly was (which is a shame because one of my favourite scenes of Spider Man is him lifting the rubble in homecoming, I thought that it would show him that he's no longer under the shadow of Iron Man. I was blatantly wrong when I watched FFH lol) I know people will disagree with me, but I agree with HiTop about May. She was really underdeveloped, used more as a joke rather than a very important figure to Peter's life. She doesn't need the movie to be centralized about her and peter but if we were given insight on her morals from the start of homecoming, by introducing F.E.A.S.T and more of her motherly attitude, we could've gotten a better emotional connection. It also was just weird that Peter tried so hard to keep Spider-Man a secret from May, but in FFH, she encourages him to go risk his life, her only family, practically at this point considered to be her son. Yes there was a comment regarding peter saying that explaining he's spider-man to may again is just going to be frustrating, but we should've seen the actual development of it in FFH. Character Development is only good when you actually see and experience the arc of the character going through that change. I feel like Jon Watts didn't either grasp his character and just blindly tried shooting it in. But considering Sony's track record (I have a burning passion to hate Avi Arad, the guy who ruined not only just Raimi's trilogy, but the TASM series, making Venom a PG-13 CHARACTER) in butting their way into spider man trilogies to just ruin them, I wouldn't be surprised if Jon watts was restricted of creative freedom in the previous 2 films and the studio decided to just give him more leeway/freedom in making NWH. Regardless, I'm happy and satisfied with NWH because it's set up a Peter that I hope we get to see more development about.

@@redgrapes8565 Couldn't disagree more, this whole trilogy is a perfect ark for Peter about growing up to be a better more responsible man with homecoming being about wanting more responsibilities, FFH bring about learning how to cater to those responsibilities and not let them hurt the ones around you and NWH was about how those responsibilities can destroy you and will not always be convenient but are things that you can never let go of because innocent people can get hurt if you don't. Altogether I think these movies make him one of the most fleshed out versions of Spider-Man and create a character who feels like the tortured soul with the weight of the world on his shoulders we've always admired and it feels earned because we've seen every decision and sacrifice he's made to come to this point.

I love your videos on the Raimi trilogy and TASM but when it comes to the MCU Spidey trilogy, I disagree quite a lot. The point of the MCU Spider-Man movies is to tell a unique story of the character and the lore around it. Marvel and Sony clearly want to take a lot of time with this series to fully develop Peter to the point where he can maybe even lead his own superhero team. In the first two movies, he did act quite childish (ESPECIALLY Far From Home) but still; at the end, he always stepped up to the task and succeeded. In each movie, Peter grows a little bit so by the time you get to NWH, Peter can truly be called Spider-Man and not Spider-Boy or “Little Iron-Boy Jr.” I’ll be honest though, I didn’t really like what they did with Peter in FFH ‘cause of the the whole EDITH thing and him handing it over to Mysterio but you gotta get that if they don’t have Peter messing up and making naive mistakes like that, they can’t have him grow into the character he is at the end of No Way Home and so on. These movies focus on Peter’s shortcomings and flaws so that they can turn him into a greater, more responsible character in the future, if they take their time with him (which I do think they’re doing). Don’t get me wrong, the Raimi movies will always have a special place in my heart and the first film will probably always be my favorite Spider-Man film but still, I really like what they’re doing with this Peter so I’m here for it. NWH was a masterpiece and I really wish you realized that. (Sheesh, that was long…)

You make some good points but I personally would never want to see Spidey "lead his own superhero team". It goes against what I see as a core trait of the character. Spider-Man is a solo act who occasionally does team-ups. If Disney wants another superhero team then they should look elsewhere.

@@theamazingmikelee9857, same. I wouldn’t want Pete to lead his own team but in this film, they were definitely showcasing a lot of leadership qualities in him. Kevin Feige and the MCU didn’t PLAN this trilogy to be one long origin story, and anyone who says they did are just the delusional dickriding MCU and Feige fans that think neither can do any wrong. It’s clear that from the beginning they were setting him up to be the new Tony Stark. The new Iron Man. But since fans got upset at that (because that literally makes no fucking sense character-wise and goes against the core values of who Spider-Man is) they course corrected with the third movie. That’s all. Not to mention Holland’s third movie was originally gonna be a Kraven story. No multiverse shit and I think Strange wasn’t even going to be in it. And another fun fact(and a reason why I have a lot of respect for Tom Holland) is that the end of NWH that was originally planned was gonna be where Peter’s identity is still known by the world. Everyone would remember him, but he still would distance himself. However Holland wanted and came up with a different ending, which is the one we got. And honestly the idea itself that they “planned” this arc from the beginning just makes no logical sense and would be a terrible choice on Marvel’s part. I shouldn’t have to wait 6 movies over the course of several years for Spider-Man to start being Spider-Man. For a character to actually feel like themselves. Another thing is I’ve always felt the third movie is somewhat of an apology to the part of the fanbase that was complaining about the direction this Spidey was going in.

For a Spoiler Review he avoids speaking of pretty much every highlight of the movie especially about Holland's Peter having the need to kill Osborn only to be stopped by Maguire's Peter. Anger is a layer of the character that despite how much good willed a person is he still remains a human. Peter Parker smiles, cries and gets mad basically like every other human being, he is flawed and to the brink of ruin he might unwillingly do something that he regrets like almost committing murder. Personally, I think this was the best of the MCU Spider-Man trilogy. I still don't fully understand why this isn't spider man to you fully, I got MAJOR vibes of Stan Lee's original run of the character, which was a high-school melodrama with some superhero stakes to it. This Peter Parker felt like the kid trying to play with the big boys to me, and dealt with the teen issue of identity and the crushing weight of expectations from yourself and the people you aspire to be like. But one of the beautiful things (or horrible, depending on your perspective) about this is that the identity of Spidey can be so broad, so varied and still be spider-man. I will never agree that Tom's Spider-Man is "bad" or "not Spider-Man". I love this take. And I'm excited to see how the MCU is going to handle the down-on-his-luck, struggling college kid take on the guy.

I think this movie doesn't do it nearly as much as some others but sometimes I'll be having an amazing time soaking in the emotion and just get totally brought out because goofy side character 4 has an absolutely worthless piece of wacky advice to share. Worst example I can think of is in Shang chi where him and his best buddy (can't think of her name right now) are on the plan and he is opening up about his abusive past with his war lord father after keeping it a secret for years... only to get interrupted by a stewardess who say "Beef of veggie, sorry all out of chicken. Sorry that was a bit of a tangent but that's my thoughts. Like I said no way home isn't nearly as bad in comparison to other mcu movies when it comes to this but I would be lying if I denied their existence. To me, HiTop is suffering from what I call "The Writer's bias" Is a bias that happens when you start writing your own stories seriously, it makes you dislike any type of story or script that contradicts or simply isn't like what you would want to write and makes you legitimately think is a problem with the movie. I was a victim to this bias recently, i heavily disliked "The Northman" when i first watched it, because it depicted a style and type of story i wouldn't want to write myself and I made all kinds of arguments to back my opinion, but in the end through seeing other opinions, reviews and analyzing my feelings, i understood that the movie is an incredible artsy achievement, it's just not my cup of tea. And I feel like HiTop is suffering from that same bias, but he's still in the "making arguments" phase, and even tho he's probably just trying to stay true to his opinions he just comes off as stubborn and unwilling to revise his previous opinions. I think he only needs to chill and be humble enough to listen to other opinions, and be willing to accept that this isn't what HE wants but was given TO him. and that this is a new version of the character that's not trying to be like the other two spider-men. Edit: in my recent observation it seems is even more intense with stories/movies that have elements of what one likes, (HiTop likes personal superhero films for example) but does something different with that. (Takes a different angle, or genre, or lesson) And the one with the bias feels even more disappointed because it saw something that felt tailor made for them and then became something different. It is a matter of personal expectations really.

Or he expressed his opinions on why he feels a film is bad and a bunch weirdos are making it deeper than it is because they’re fanboys with Disney thongs stuck up their ass. These MCU movies for me and many others are underwhelming because they don’t understand the characters outside their aesthetics, every non superhero is barely developed, they overuse cgi and it’s visually jarring and unnecessary, the relationships feel forced, they overuse comedy and it undercuts the weight of dramatic sequences, they rely on the multiverses to not tell a conclusive story, and every film ends with some big bombastic cgi explosion fest. It’s not about what we want the film to be. Im a writer and I’ve seen many films including superhero ones that I think are great. It’s just easy as a writer to not be distracted by computer visuals and hold films accountable for their lack of substance and laziness. Sam Raimi’s films would still be great as literary works without CG, whereas MCU Spidey would be awful without the help of CG. This film lazily hinges on the backbone of other filmmakers work because the MCU Spider-Man has never been capable of holding its own story without gimmicks like Tony Stark cameos, race swapping, Jake Gyllenhaal as mysterio, and literally having better interpretations of the character carry audiences to give this crap version a chance. It’s sad too because I thought Tom had a chance to be the best Spider-Man but he’s easily my least favorite due how unrecognizable, unimaginative, and boring these films are.

Not only did Peter neglect to spend time with his aunt May, the director purposely made it a point not to feature May and neglected her characterization until the very end.

@@Atomsk484 peter was never shown and it was never stated that he neglected to spend time with aunt may, are you forgetting homecoming when he literally went out to lunch and hung out with her? or when aunt may helped him get ready for homecoming in the film? even in the beginning of ffh we see their familial dynamic, peter never once took her for granted or neglected her that may be the case for you and your mom but there’s no need to project that onto anyone else who’s lost a family member

@@issy785 look, as I stated in my initial post, that was my read on the film because of the situation that I currently find myself in. Nothing you say is going to invalidate my read on the film and just because you're ignorant to that circumstance and don't see it, doesn't mean it's not a valid read of the films message. Take your shit somewhere else. Film is an interpretive media and that's how I interpreted it. So fuck off if you don't like it.

I felt like throughout the “Home” trilogy, the ideologies of Spider-Man were slowly built. Homecoming taught him how to just use things he _had_ to work with. Far From Home taught him responsibility as he royally screws up multiple times throughout the movie and ultimately leads to his identity getting leaked. And in No Way Home, he learns about grief and enduring it for the rest of his life Edit: I never said that this was good or the way to establish the character. I agree, it was shit as they used Miles’ personality instead of turning the pages like the original 616’s Peter for inspiration. These are simply my observations

@Judge Jerry Poppins Lol no . The fact yall Mcu stans think this was planned when they used TASM and Spiderman 3 scenes . 🤡🤡 Y'all are the epitome of clowns, Homecoming and Far From Home sucked , end of story . No one cares about your opinion if it's clearly wrong .

@Judge Jerry Poppins I can totally agree on this. A few months ago I was thinking the same thing. It's obvious this was meant to progress Peter from being "Iron Boy Jr" to being fully independent and working for himself, taking on the full responsibilities of being a hero. Feige knew what he was doing, he didn't wanna make the whole MCU Spider-Man story revolve around a careless, irresponsible hero, because that's not what Spider-Man nor Peter Parker is meant to be. This was just a longer arc that rly had to hammer into Peter's brain the fact that being a hero comes with a cost and personal duties. Now we're going to see the Peter that is accountable for his actions from here on out, and his story is going to be much more Spider-Man-like.his whole entire character

@Judge Jerry Poppins we're not saying it's a reactionary movie. We're saying they're bad movies. That direction is fine, but it was poorly executed. This one is less bad than the last two.

@@idontcareaboutyouropinion8494 if you look at the most upvoted thread on this video, you'll find these people _really_ don't like the idea of things being objectively bad or good. It's their opinion, damnit, and your opinion (even if it's not your opinion) is just as equal to theirs. That's how they see it. I genuinely don't know how they get through life. Someone once called these people "status quo apologists." They find all sorts of ways to justify why things aren't bad, and it keeps our species stuck with things that suck.

I agree that the CGI needing more time. In fact, I verbalized this while watching the first fight scene in the film. But idk why you need the sacrificial piece so badly, an uncle Ben. The story can be told without the cliche. He has clearly lost his Ben without the retelling. I needed a story that didn’t go back to the first film cliche.
