I have this and Santal Royal, I love both of them, but I only use sparingly and wear for my own enjoyment. I've been described as smelling very masculine on two separate occasions whilst wearing BM, not sure if that's a compliment 😁
Ok, asking for anyone else who is wondering this same thing: you got rid of this... but what's taking the spot of a warm spicy woody scent in your collection?
2 scents were re released from Les Déserts d'Orient series into new LES ABSOLUS D'ORIENT collection. Unfortunately Rose Nacree du Desert wasn't ;-( All remaining 6 scents are the new compositions.

No prior testing of this Guerlain collection, other than Santal Royal. As a matter of fact, it has been a while ago; though, they seem to handle decent reformulations. Good luck on any future swapping decision. Thanks for your review, Pep! - Ricardo
I recently bought Encens Mythique and by God I won't say it's my favorite yet, but that was the first fragrance that almost made me cry with how good it was. I'd like to try more from this collection, but I may have peaked already based on yours and people's opinions. I know it's not an apples to apples thing, Pep, but would you say this or HDP's Fidelis is more sample-worthy?
I smelled Encens Mythique D'Orient a long time ago and loved it but have been hesitant to buy the new version because of reformulation, but I'm glad to hear it's very similar. Might have to go get a bottle! Thanks, Pep.
I also feel the same about how Guerlain name their perfumes, Santal Royal is more rose oud than sandalwood. This one should be Cuir Mysterieux. I've also tried Patchouli Ardent, on me it's a sweet rose patchouli, v long lasting, well done but not something that i'll get.
I have very limited experience with bois and songe, I can't detect much difference but I've never tried or wear them on skin, only on paper and very briefly in the store. My favorite is also encens, that one I do have experience since I had a sample of the older bottle and have a bottle of the new one, I smell more difference in that one, but many factores can be in place, how older the sample was etc etc, I actually prefer the new encens, it goes right into my favorite part that beautiful airy rose and ambergris although it last a bit less then the older one, it's still a very good performer but I really don't care much about that
Risky when companies play with our perceptions by giving fragrances descriptive names. And then when it doesn't meet the expectation...takes some time to forget it.
