Guiding Light 9-18-09 The Final Episode Part 7 Only Love version 

I was weeping when I saw Reva get her happy ending with Josh, and they drove past the light house in the final shot. Bravo, Guiding light!

I've never in my life been more entertained by a tv show. Even now, six years later, when its 3:00 and I happen to be sick or on vacation I feel a little sad that I can't turn on the light.

Gotta make a reunion show...with the same characters. A class act of a show.

GUIIDING LIGHT’s “The End” is the saddest moment in televisions history. Thank you for years of happy times, heartbreak, love and weddings. Who to who, what and when what happened, I had to catch up on RU-vid. When Jeffrey was lost, I quit watching then the final episode shows Reva and Josh take off together. What happens now? Please come to your senses CBS. Put GUIDING LIGHT BACK on the air. Today is 4th July. Can the Bauer’s send me some BBQ?

I was a little girl when I started watching Guiding Light with my grandma. She had to watch her stories. As I grew older and started school, the only “story” I was able to watch with her was GL. It came on at 3:00 in the afternoon. My 88 yr old grandmother died in September of 2009 and had been ill for a while before she passed, so she didn’t see the end of Guiding Light. 12 years later, I watched it for her. I know she would have been happy with the way it ended. Thank you Guiding Light for giving me so many special memories that I shared with my grandmother. ❤️

❤ Only Love can Save the World....l have watched Day time Dramas nearly my whole life. ABC,NBC,CBS. As of July 2024,there are only 3 left in broadcast tv. I watched GL from 1990 to series finale. This was my favourite soap. Irma Phillips abd and I would have been friends..... the people, places, and cities are Real....to those who love them. They are the families We choose. I will always hold a special place in my ❤️ heart fir GL. After Katrina, the actors came down here to Biloxi to help with clean up. The Shine Your Light campaign. What an honour it was to meet the cast. Remember we All can be Lighthouses if we allow our beacons to shine. Thus is not the end of the story , as long as we keep following the Guiding Light 🕯️. I've watched this show with my granma since i was 6. Reva & Josh are the best daytime couple ever. Im going to miss this show.

Guilding light was my favorite soap and still is i started watching it in the mid 80s until it ended. Miss them so much this show was the best out of all of them

I never saw a second of this show and here I am, watching the last 3 minutes!! It seems sad... and happy, just like life is.

My thanks to the cast and crew--past, present, dead and alive--of "Guiding Light" for 72 years of shining the light as the longest-running radio and television soap opera in the United States of America.

I think I know exactly why I didn't watch the outdoors scenes, but I use to watch Guiding Light with my mom and grandma. I miss it but the life must go on.

I really miss this show! But, at least before the show went off everybody was where they were suppose to be Phillip & Beth, Rick & Mindy, Billy & Vanessa and even Josh & Reva!!

I watched this by myself on my computer at work after everyone had gone home. I wept it was so strange it was like a part of my life was over. I had watched gl since 7th grade (1981)so in a way it was. I still miss it so much.

@MrsChristopherAsher In the penultimate episode, Holly and Ed left together for an around-the-world trip. As for Jeffrey, they left it ambiguous as to what happened to him. The last we saw him he was chasing Edmund.

It's sad to see the show end which after 72 years it had a lot of memories that had joy & sorrow. As The World Turns is next on the chomping block and that too is going to be a sad day when it airs it's last show.

I love this! Josh and Reva are like Luke and Laura. They will always find their way back to eachother even if they marry other people (ie Luke/Tracy, Josh/Cassie, Laura/Scotty, Reva/Jeffery). I do wish that Jonathan had found someone to love before the end. But I guess Sarah was enough for now.

Thanks, BrandamantKnight, I think too many people here are satisfied with too little. We started out with a robust, really powerful and passionate love story that captured the hearts of thousands across the globe. Accepting that "they are happy" is NOT enough. NO one is equal until ALL are equal. We had a shot at it with GL -- and they blew it, plain and simple. Even AMC's lesbian couple was shown kissing and hugging and even making love. No kiss is no equality.

My God, it's strange, how life can change.....Oh...in a moment....I can't remember what I was about to say.............

and the 2:00 to 3:00 Pacific Time hour has been a very dark time since GUIDING LIGHT went off the air. GL is sorely missed!

Wish they would do a 5 year anniversary reunion! My favorite soap, and yes it was going downhill. I agree, when they started shooting more outdoor scenes that was a bad decision, but also the writing was really going downhill. I have to say though that this town they film in is so beautiful! Without me googling to find out where this is, anyone know?

@thenewctc I actually missed it when it ended. I didn't know it was the last days til it was over. I saw cips on You Tube. Sorry I missed. I missed the ending of GL too. I tried to tape it and ended up taping the wrong show.I was happy to see Frannie. It was wonderful of Julianne Moore to appear. That show was a gateway to show stars over the years.

I've never heard from it before now, and it shocks me that it ran for so long. Ending something like that is, indeed, kinda harsh. But, what were they thinking, shooting outside with cheap camera's, looks like they wanted to kill the show. It all looks like something a first year filmstudent would make.

I think we all agree its not about a kiss at all, its about the world seeing the lesbian couple as a couple and not as the lesbian couple. For CBS to treat those two with white gloves is a slap in the face. Yes they did stay together, but then again they had a baby, not as a couple, but with Frank and Natalia. You can't say all couples were equal on that show. Physical love is just that physical love. Yes I loved the love story, but that one kiss would have made all the difference.

I would have loved to see some flashbacks and such....and where was Holly? They bring back Fletcher, but no Meg and no Holly. I was happy to see Reva and Josh end up together at the end, but come on...we as fans deserved a much better ending. And if we feel that way, what must the cast feel?

All those characters such as roger, holly, alan-michael and ross etc, were placed on the backburner when the character of reva was brought back. when Michael zaslow left/fired in 97 I had a hard time watching the show and stopped watching altogether.

I agree! This past week, we saw Daisy and James post sex. All week we have seen nearly EVERY character play kissy face at some point! WTF? Otalia should have had a kiss, just as ANY other couple. By withholding the kiss, it sends all kinds of negative messages. It is ok to love someone of the same sex as long as they don't "act on it" or "put it in people's faces." Screw that! If cousins can make love, (Jammy), then Otalia could have had a few kisses, at the VERY least!

As a faithful Otalia fan, I am appalled at the complete lack of respect this relationship was given. GL strung Otalia fans along, only to rip us off with scenes of virtually every other couple kissing and stupid Cyrus hooking up but not the long-awaited physical consumation (even the tiniest bit) of true love between two women. I am offended. The Otalia story could not be complete with just the two women, they had to have Frank in the middle of all of it. Shame on GL.

Ellen Wheeler did an outstanding job with this finale. I did not watch this program - but am fascintated with the last episodes of sopas, once mine (AW) went off the air in 1999. I loved the AW finale, with the exception of that gorilla, but had always wished for a nod to the old logos... Ms. Wheeler did indeed pay homage to the legacy that was in her hands - and did so beautifully. Bravo....

I wonder if that was a 1937 Ford truck at the end. That would've been very fitting, considering that was the year that GL began...

This was a very LAME ending. Very bad music. Even Another World with the final shot of Mac was perfect. There should have been a shot ot or mention about Bert or Rev. Rutledge's famous poem. After 72 years GL deserved better.
