Yea, how could we not on St Patrick's day. Then there is the weekend the eve and eve eve. Had Guinness's extra, Southern Tiers Irish cream and saved one of their nitro Thick Mint and Crem Brulte's from last year along with a Pastry Archy Irish Cream Desert. Of the two favorite is the Guinness Foreign Extra well ahead of the Muphy's. You've reviewed most of these, thanks. Next week it's IPA time.
Yeah, the Guinness Foreign Extra Stout reigns supreme for it. Definitely my favorite from Guinness. Nothing wrong with this one -- along with the Murphy's -- but if I'm grabbing a proper Irish beer, it's gonna be the FES. Hope you had a great weekend so far, Jeff! Cheers, buddy!
Not a bad one to have around, Dylan. It's cheap, readily available, and pretty damn solid. I'll always grab it if I'm at a restaurant or bar that doesn't have inspiring choices. Can never go wrong, IMO. Cheers, man!
5:35 When I first had this beer way back, I too thought it would taste more like an stout similar to Edmund Fitzgerald. But it just tasted like water haha
LOL! Yeah, I remember thinking it'd be like drinking motor oil and then realizing it's pretty thin and almost watery. At the end of the day, the taste of this one isn't amazing or anything, but the nitro is always fun. Plus, it's nice the calories aren't crazy, either. Thanks for sharing! Cheers!
Nice! I think that is definitely a bucket list thing for me. I'd love to go there, do the tour and drink it straight from the source. Someday, Billy! Happy St. Patrick's Day, buddy! Cheers!
im loving it its best beer in the store its smooth its creamy not gassy at all im drinking it all day everyday wish it was a stronger beer after 8 cans theres only a light headed feeling it doesnt get you "drunk" i cant drink enough of it to get drunk theres no hangovers, its a nice tasting beer though tastes better than it looks.
Glad you like it, dude! Have you ever tried the Extra Stout or Foreign Extra Stout? They're not in nitro cans (which is why Guinness Draught is so smooth and creamy), but the flavors are even better. Also, have you tried Murphy's Irish Stout? Another beer comparable to Guinness Draught, as well. I appreciate the comment! Cheers!
I compared the Guinness and the Murphy's a few days ago. The Murphy's had a better aroma... more chocolatey that also carried through in the taste. Both were creamy, but thin. Guinness may have been marginally more bitter. I thought they were both tasty, but I give the edge to Murphy's. On top of that, a 4 pack of the Murphy's was only $5.99 vs $8.99 for the Guinness. I preferred the Murphy's overall, and it is 33% less money for the same size nitro can. The choice is a no brainer for me.
Yeah, I did the side-by-side in the Murphy's review I just posted. I think I had a similar experience to you, but I gave the slight edge to Guinness. However, as I mentioned in that review, if we're taking price point into consideration, I'd probably go Murphy's. If I drank either of these beers on a daily basis, you'd save $100-200 per year. That's a nice savings for beers that are pretty comparable. I appreciate you sharing your thoughts and experience on both beers, Robert! Have a great St. Patrick's Day! Cheers!
I've reviewed a few beers from the Guinness Open Gate Brewery in Maryland, Kyle! I think it'd be cool to definitely check it out at some point. I've enjoyed the beers I've reviewed from that location, with my favorite being their Barrel-Aged Stock Ale. Cheers, man!
Nice! I was lucky enough to go on a trip to the UK and Ireland in 2018 and we went to the brewery. It was extremely cool but unfortunately that’s the day the jet lag caught up to me and I’ve never been more tired in my life, so it ruined the experience a bit. We did have a ton of Guinness all over Ireland though and it is definitely better. Some people act as if it’s an entirely different beer which isn’t true to me, but it is hyper fresh and delicious. It is definitely worth the trip and if you ever go you’ve got to take the 2 hour train ride to Galway. Beautiful city.
That sucks, Curtis! Nothing worse than being super tired when trying to enjoy something like that. Yeah, I'd imagine the proximity to the brewery is the best thing about the beer over there. Traveling overseas and not getting it super fresh here definitely plays a roll. It's on my bucket list, so I hope to be able to check it out in the future. It'd definitely be something that I'd remember forever. Thanks for sharing, buddy! I hope you had a great St. Patrick's Day! Cheers!
I know some folks have the same opinion as you, buddy. For me, I take it for what it is, a 4% beer that has a great mouthfeel. Sorry you don't enjoy it more. That is the beauty about craft beer, though, we all have different tastes, so it's always fun to hear what others think. Hope you have a good day, man! Cheers!
