Personally, I think the drop d adds a bit of heaviness.. you can watch him play at woodstock..and the g chord is actually drop d fretted at the 5th , then walks down to the Em fretting at the second..I think it adds a particular sedative like element to the song. It does sound good either way, thanks for the tutorial.
