I love me some BMFS!!! Probably one of the best flat pickers today. If you don’t know, he grew up learning bluegrass but switched to metal in his teens and then returned to bluegrass. The name Billy Strings isn’t just a “stage name”. His aunt gave him that nickname when he was a kid.
Man,,the expression on your face made this so much enjoyable...yes Billy Strings kicks ass...Not your average bluegrass music. he can go from this to 'War Pigs'..
Billy Strings is phenomenal. Another fabulous mandolin player is Sierra Hull. She's a fine guitar player as well. She does a Doc Watson cover of walk on boy you should check out.
This kid can really play!! I got exposed to Billy when Trey sat in with his band for some songs (available on RU-vid). Agree with you, Billy has a great voice! Wouldn’t mind seeing more of them.
Yeeesss! Billy Mother F'n Strings! This is probably one of my favorite songs too! Saw him live last winter and they put on a ridiculously awesome show. It's like Bluegrass x metal x jam band. Definitely keep checking more out. Any live version "Meet Me At The Creek" would be a good next step
He's been playing guitar since he was 4, he just turned 30. He tours all the time . I saw him in Huntsville Jan 2020 just before Covid. Doc Watson was a big influence on Billy.
Billy is a bit of a unicorn. Ace flat picker and good to great songwriter. He just recruited violinist Alex Hargreaves who played with former Nickle Creek mandolinist, Chris Thile. Catch em live if you can.
@@GuitarSoloReactions Chris formed the Punch Brothers after Nickle Creek. A few years ago he took over as host of The Prairie Home Companion radio program on PBS. The pandemic killed that show, but he curated one hell of a group of musicians during his time as host.
there is a set from the Newport folk fest all of Doc Watson tunes , you should check that out , also get tickets if you can we saw Billy and his band last November can't wait to see them again!
Check out his recent song with Dierks Bentley, High Note. Turns out Billy sings country and has acting chops, too. High Note is a toe-tapper song and it's so much fun watching those fellas having a blast. I've been following Billy for 3-4 years now and I think a big part of his popularity is his playfulness - note the fake song ends in Turmoil and Tinfoil. He plays with his audience and nobody knows quite what to expect, other than incredible music. I was never a big bluegrass fan, but I love talent and Billy is overly-endowed.
Thanks Tanya, I'm not huge bluegrass person either, I do love when someone plays guitar outside their genre and expands the guitar universe. Billy is one of those people.
This live capture of Billy (& the killer band) going full-on #PanteraBluegrass remains one of my favourite music vids on the web! It's just SO good. p.s. I can't claim the #PanteraBluegrass phrase, that was the excellent Michael Palmisano during his reaction/analysis vid. ;)
This one is from what, 17-18? Check out something from this year, he's only getting better! Saw him twice this year and have 9 shows lined up for next year hahaha
