That's the privilege of living in Europe where they're less famous. They were hanging at the merch stand after their show and they're indeed two of the sweetest artists I've ever met. Derek even gave me his bottleneck when I told him that I started to play slide guitar because of him. One of the best shows of my life :-) Thanks for your video!
Yeah I’m lucky enough to have seen them with the late great bb king, rip, like 8 years ago. They just get better. unfortunately I haven’t been able to see them since kofi left, rip. That’ll be a hard one to replace
@@TheCrowHawk @michaelpalmisano Check out this Liz Reed I shot in 2015 @ P'Cola Saenger (seating capacity 1,650). Kofi & Derek ... hell, the whole band! ... at the top of their game! Other good videos of #ttb on my channel also. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-lhAGNE7HBBI.html
I too absolutely love Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi (along with the rest of the Tedeschi-Trucks Band). Not only are they incredibly talented musicians, with Derek being the greatest slide guitarist on the planet IMO and Susan having a phenomenal blues vocalist whose voice oozes soul, but they are also incredibly nice people.
I bought a front row seat for my bday at the famous Ryman Auditorium this past February and all I wanted was to hear Susan sing Angel>Sugaree and I got my wish. I’ll never forget it. ❤️ Susan, Derek and the amazing Band! Can’t wait to see you again. I’ll be at your first show regardless of where or when.
When Susan was a new artist I was privileged to watch her captivate an audience with just her guitar and voice and I was hooked instantly. She is a treasure
And...That's the good stuff! I can't think of a guitar player who wouldn't be overshadowed by Derek, but she is an incredible player in her own right and obviously an apex singer. The cohesiveness of this band is stunning. Also, I must say, that was the best flute solo I've ever heard. LoL
I was truly blessed to have seen this very band with the flautist, Kofi Burbage, on a few occasions. Such a beautiful young man taken from us far to soon. Very nice breakdown, brother. It is much appreciated.
Susan's voice just keeps getting better and better. It's great to watch. Derek is a musician's musician and he is so keyed on Susan for dynamic changes and just super supportive of her musically speaking. As you say attentive. Attentiveness is about the best trait in a musician.
They were my last show before covid hit. Seeing Derek live is something else, but seeing how he drirects that monster of a band using the most subtle of body language and music cues was probably the most impressive thing I've ever seen. It's so good.
I'd give my eye-teeth to see them. To nail a John Prine song like she does...that song was meant for her to put a voice to. What young man writes a song about life seen from an elderly woman's perspective?...John Prine, that's who...Covid, you suck. We were robbed.
TTB performing “Angel From Montgomery/Sugaree” is the BEST thing I have EVER seen on RU-vid!!! Nice to know someone else is as big a fan of this amazing band of musicians.
This is the first “reaction video” I’ve ever watched, and I didn’t have high hopes, I just clicked because I love TTB and I know Susan kills Angel of Montgomery. But it really brought me a lot of joy to see how moved you were. You looked as if you were close to tearing up. That’s the power of music! I love that. I’ve been fortunate to see them many times. Then I watched your video of Midnight in Harlem. I share your reverence for Derek Trucks. You really know your music theory. I wish I had stuck with an instrument instead of wanting to play everything. Anyway, you are the kind of person I’d love to spend time with. I’ll be checking out more videos, I’m sure. Thanks!
I feel the the same way. I was always hesitant to watch "reaction videos" but this is truly special seeing a brother get 'that gleam in his eye' and, as fellow Deadheads who seen them many many times, witness the magic in the reaction he has. Plus Sugaree, that's always been my song ever since I got on the bus long ago...it's a very special old tune and every time I hear it, I feel like I'm hearing it for the first time over and over.
Totally agree man! I came across Mike and had the exact same reaction - Mike's passion and knowledge and enjoyment of the raw emotion of a piece is just great. I agree Derek is possibly the best guitarist right now and I've seen him since he was 13 playing with BB King and Susan is so talented she sends shivers down my spine when she sings!
I’ve watched this Tedeschi Trucks tune over and over and over...so powerful. I don’t “know” music, just feel it, so your tutorial helps me appreciate what I’m feeling while watching it.
I booked tickets for Susan tedeschi boch Wang theater Friday oct 4 Boston balcony seats I'm so in love with her bluesy rock music God Almighty hell of an amazing artist and I'm gonna melt in my shoes I'm crying listening to angel Montgomery God bless you my friend
The first time I heard Susan sing and play I was on maui... sitting in my car ... andpaeked on a side street... suddenly I heard this voice ... and I just sat there staring.. like a fool .. a few minute later I nearly started crying .. the emotion was so powerful ... she reminds me of some one that I knew .. her expressions .. my mother had similar expressions and had died a few years previous.. ot was such a great song and at the same time was sadd and happy ... memories... any way .... as I watched her I thought darn I'm I'n love . she really has a wonderful vibe .. S great
There are two bands, in my opinion , that are the greatest on this planet at this moment. TTB and Snarky Puppy. Both bands contains musicians that play in favour of the band (besides the fact that they are individually outstanding musicians). It’s absolutely a joy to listen to them.
Saw them this past weekend at the Chicago theater, she walked out on crutches because she tore her meniscus dancing at the green mill the night before and she ripped it! Your story about her being sick reminded me. Also they covered angels from Montgomery that night.
Mattson (backup singer you mentioned) was the lead singer for the Derek Trucks Band prior to the bands merging and he has co-written some of their songs.
I decided that I'm going to sign up for your lessons, as a Christmas gift from my wife. I've been playing about twelve years and know the most important basic things about keys and the proper chord, knowing how to embellish just a little bit. Your playing style is superb, and I want to learn as much from you as possible. Keep doing this, please!!
I just recently saw TTB in Red Bank, NJ in March of this year. completely, totally blown away. one of the comments below on how Derek directs the band with the slightest of movements, nods, turns, etc. He broke a string on stage, one of the roadies brought out another guitar but Derek had him bring a string. Derek had the keyboad player take on a solo while he changed his guitar string right on stage and the band just kept on playing a very complex rythym. crazy. Susan's voice is so far past 4 dimensions hearing her live will make you cry if you have a heartbeat. just looking at other tour dates now. Beacon theater NY in OCT!
RIP Kofi! You are sorely missed, my friend! Big part of the soul of the Derek Trucks Band and TTB. They were the last band I saw live before the lockdown as well. With so many moving parts, it would be easy for that to turn into a muddy mess, but they handle it so well! I would probably agree with best live band around now (or Widespread Panic!). Always fun to see how bands react to adversity, because they all have it! Jerry was famous for flubbing lyrics, I saw Greggory flub more than one verse too, JB, hell no telling where he's going sometimes, but they never fall off of that tightrope! I saw Susan open for the ABB sometime in the late 90s, maybe 2000, and had never heard of her. Well, I certainly left that show knowing who she is!
Yes, Kofi was so talented and it was a major blow when he passed and will forever be missed. They are, IMHO, the best band around and as you described so tight and professional. I saw the same tour back then and discovered Susan myself and she blew me away! When ABB reformed after DB they were back to playing great shows with Derek and Warren on guitar and Oteil on bass. Those Beacon Theater runs were are real joy to see!
Thanks so much for yet another amazing REACT video, Michael. And Susan Tedeschi...wow. Absolutely incredible. What a musician, performer, singer, guitarist...everything.
"Things just start to click if you don't quit on you..." - LIFE LESSON - for free no less. At 49 I can attest that this accounts for 87% of the good shit in my life. Maybe 89%, maybe :-)
I'm glad we agree about the essence in this band. I followed their Swamp Family shows all through the Spring and Summer. Beautiful, all of it. Such emotion.
Palmisano: watch how attentive Derek is to Susan. Derek: I was so attentive I didn’t even take the stage. Lol....I’m playing, Michael. I’ve been to so many shows I get them mixed up sometimes too. Love your reactions, keep em’ coming. RIP Kofi❤️✌🏼
As a Jax native, I can’t tell you how proud I am of them! Never met them, but they seem like down to earth folks...who happen to be loaded to the hilt with talent!! ✌🏻🎸
The first time I heard Susan singing I realised I will never be the kind of singer or musician I want to be because she exists! Angel/sugaree was the first song I heard her sing
my wife and I planned our family vacation around their tour this year. Saw them in Chicago two nights, Milwaukee BMO and then at Red Rocks. We love their energy so much!
Right there with you! Mike has reignited my passion for playing and he's the best at running through a tune and explaining the intricacies of the melodies - love it!!
Wanted you to react to this for so long! Classic tune from some of the best in the game right now, Trucks is next level. Scarily good. Hope you and the fam are all safe and well, have a good one man!
Absolutely the best band in the land these days! Seen em several times and they NEVER disappoint, so powerful are they and so TOGETHER, each having the others’ musical backs! Thanks for doing this one Michael it is one of my faves. ✌️
Great video Michael! I saw all 3 Nashville shows shortly after you saw them in D.C. They are definitely the best band out there today for so many reasons. The way they feed off each other on stage and communicate with a look, a smile, or a laugh is incredible! They played Angel/Sugaree as well and I got goosebumps when the whole room is singing Sugaree. Very powerful moment! Can't wait to see TTB again... Keep up the good work!
Michael so cool to see your channel really taking off. I love your insights. TTBand is really special and I can't get enough. I just love the rich layers of all the arrangements. Masterful! (also welcome to FL- just in time for a hurricane)
Excellent breakdown of probably my most favourite band of the moment. Its clear we have very similar tastes. Great stuff Michael; Your videos, as well as being super informative are an absolute joy to watch.
I just came across this video Michael. I completely share your enthusiasm for TTB. You articulated some of the exact same thoughts/feelings which I have, but have struggled to put into words myself. I hear some of that same magic in your playing/teaching too!
Michael...glad I ran into the post. I have been drawn to the Tedeschi Trucks band for many years, and for obvious reason. I love how you break down the entire song, on behalf of the band. You're refreshing to watch and to pick up on maybe the "not so obvious" things in music" keep up the great content...Much appreciated!
Between your knowledge of actual scale and how emotionally invested you are...man! New sub. Watched your Chris Stapleton, Rain when I die, DRH jam, and this one all right in a row. You're great man.
When you walk me through it, some times just by your facial expression, I learn why this band is my favorite. I am not musician. There are just some things that stay with me, and until I found your channel, I did not know why. I may not understand some of the things you explain but It doesn't matter, because now I am noticing those little things and learning.
TTB is without a doubt the best live band around these days. Every member is a badass playing their instrument and each vocalist could front their own bands. As for the "space" when they play, they do what all great musicians do - they listen to what is being played. It's such a simple concept yet many players can't seem to grasp it. I never thought I'd hear power coming from the stage after The Brothers called it quits but TTB thankfully proved me wrong! As for them getting no airplay or so many people being unaware of them - they're too damn good and the masses settle for way less.
The first time I found Derek and Susan, it was in a video of an all-star jam session with Clapton, BB King, and I believe Mark Knopfler. It seemed the producer wanted to focus on Clapton and King, and thought "Forget these other guys" whenever someone else played. I was like "Hey, I want to see more of that slide guy!!!" LOL But of course, Clapton and King handled it like they professionals they are and tried to share the spotlight with everyone.
Such a beautiful lesson Michael. You really made me appreciate this band even more than I already do. A little context for you: Seen ttb 30+ times all over the country. Some times I go days upon days listening to TTB. So it's high praise. Thanks 🙏
such a good jam. I was in the mountains on lsd the first time I heard it. It was a beautiful day. Been listening to Susan and Tedeschi Trucks Band since. they're wonderful.
Perfect comments on the band. 12 or whatever pieces and yet more 'space' than I get left in my 5-piece band... This masterpiece of a song is also right up there with 'Pancho and Lefty' and 'Don't Think Twice' as one of the best songs ever written.
I came here from that fabulous rehearsal video of Them with Taj Mahal and Leaving Trunk and everything you said about them is spot on. Even in their rehearsals its a must watch. All of this reminds me of good days when I was young.
Surgaree - turned my Wife into a Jerry fan 30 or so years ago. A fourteen minute live Jerry Garcia Band boot legged off the radio. I think there is a BW video out there... great song great version... Love it! Probably my favorite Dead tune. Thanks for the video.
Call it what you want, but music like this is prayer. It reaches out and opens us up. It is an honor to the universe and the universe feels it and we get to see and feel that moment of floating, transcendental bliss.
Saw her perform Sugaree for the First Time ever live with The Other Ones in 2002. You should have seen the standing ovation and cheers. I told her that I remembered when I first met her.
