Great rec and reaction. The “World” may be sleeping on TTB but through *years* of hard gigging and sheer musicianship they’ve managed to carve out a sizable audience, esp in this (AM)-radio playlist-dominated world. Plus they pretty much have universal admiration from other gigging musicians. Sometimes quality do break through!
Written by Mike Matthison, the back up singer on the right. Tuh-DESK-eee. I think that was Duane Allman's guitar Derek was playing there. Derek played for the Allmans in the later years and also toured with Eric Clapton. Susan won a grammy on her own as a solo artist. The album this song is off also won a grammy. More TTB please. They are like the only band I go see live anymore.
Derek Trucks is one of the all-time best slide guitar players out there. When they played this year at Byron Bay Bluesfest they were the one band Taj Farrant's dad he was slightly tongue tied to meet. I love that 15 yr old Taj Farrant played this same festival and was drawing the large audiences too. The kid (15) is going to be one of the all-time ever greats. Love this song!!!
My late bro-in-law (RIP Richard) turned me on to Susan Tedesci way back in the early 90's. It was truly ordained by the God of music for these two to end up together...match made in blues heaven.
Live this a fantastic show.... You've got a never ending source of music in your subscribers ... I hate to speak for others here, but most of us love that you guys love this music...
This is an older video. Mike Mattison, backup singer, wrote this song and is one of Susan Tedeschi's favorites. Kofi Burbridge on keys has since passed away (2019) from complications from a previous heart surgery,RIP Kofi. His brother on bass, Oteil, now plays with Dead and Company. I think this song is amongst their best work, especially Derek's solo at the end of the song. Thanks for reacting.
Thanks so much guys, you made my day with this one! Derek is not only the nephew of Butch Trucks from the ABB, but he was a member of the band from ~2000 to when the band wrapped it up in the Fall of 2014. Here's a clip from the last version of The Allman Brothers Band where Derek and Warren Haynes and the ABB tear up Whipping Post live at a tribute for Gregg Allman. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Rx_UaQx5eZQ.html. Also, here's another clip of Tedeschi Trucks performing a cover of 'Space Captain' from the same show you saw them performing 'Midnight in Harlem":ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Nn8tfnF39ek.html
His slide play, and particularly his play when he isn't playing slide, but still is playing a guitar tuned to play slide, boggles the mind of a mere mortal. When you tune like that, everything but slide is so wrongly placed, for the human hand....it's just genius to watch him do it.
Glad you’re doing these guys! Man I love Derek Trucks; what a gifted artist. And Susan’s got SOUL. You might want to check out “Anyhow (Live in Studio)” by them.
One of the beautiful thing about Derek Trucks solo on this song , which , though the theme of it & the build up he does is the same , but it's always a bit different every time he plays it Live . Now THAT is Pure Talent .
You guys are certainly getting the music lovers treatment and shout out to those who requested this. I've never heard of them before, it's not within the genres I normally listen to but I liked it. I was intrigued seeing two drum sets, then the keys kicked in and I was hooked.
Can’t wait for you guys to get after Playing for Change version of When the Levee Breaks! Susan and Derek are just a few of the great musicians and singers featured on the video! Love all you reactions!
You are watching the embodiment of the spirit of the late great Duane Allman. Derek grew up around the Allman Bros Band as his uncle Butch was a founding member as one of the drummers. By the time Derek was old enough to play he took to the slide like it was meant to be. By 11 he was playing during the breaks at the Allman Bros. concerts. I have a link to one of those. He got a Gibson SG for his 10th birthday and was rarely seen with out it around his neck practicing. Derek is considered to be the best slide player today. He wouldn't say so because, while confident in his playing, his sincere humility would never let him say so. When Derek and Susan got together their schedules were so all over the place that Susan said we got married so we could date. They soon combined their bands the collection of players were given the choice of staying or if they had another idea they could go. But the door was always open to return. Susan possesses one of the best female Blues voices going and the pair make a bangin' Blues couple. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-MLQTbmUYI4A.html Derek at 11 playing for the concert goers during at big band break. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jkh6bB_2SGQ.html Derek at 11-12 playing as lead guitar for Derek and the Dominators. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--Iq1xw8-Pt.html Derek at 13 playing with the Allman Bros Band 'One Way Out'.
Derrick was playing on stage with Eric Clapton and BB King when he was 13 years old. Said to be the best slide guitar player alive. Susan had a solo career before she and Derrick married. You’ll love their music!
Susan kills That Did It and many other's. This band did a LIVE performance of the Derek and The Domino's album Layla on the 50th anniversary of the release in 71
I have seen them a few times. They blow the roof off whenever they play. One of my favorite bands. Susan Tedeschi is the beautiful mix of Janis Joplin and Bonnie Raitt 👍🎵🎶❤️
Derek Trucks. As a young boy, student and protege of Duane Allman...Derek Trucks tutor of John Mayer. What a linage.... Allman to Trucks to Mayer... Beautiful...Cheers 🍄🌲🍄✨💥🌈
Looking at that Yankees lid, Derek’s great uncle, Virgil “Fire” Trucks was a major league pitcher with pretty good numbers: 2× All-Star (1949, 1954) 2× World Series champion (1945, 1960) MLB strikeout leader (1949) Pitched two no-hitters He retired in 1958 as a Yankee
The guitar player is Derek and started playing in the Allman Brothers band at 9 and is one of the players of all time by Rolling Stone magizine and even Eric Clapton gave him a blank check and told him to just put a number in it to come on the road with him
Mr. Trucks, was on stage with John Mayer and MR. B.B. KING, and MR. King said that Derek Trucks -was the GREATEST SLIDE GUITARIST, he’d ever heard--! NUF SAID?
Derek Trucks was the slide player for the Allman Brothers from 1999 to 2014 when they retired.... The bass player was the bass player Otel Burborge for the Allman brothers band through the same time period. The concert is Eric Clapton's Crossroad guitar festival from Chicago.... Derek played side for Eric in his sets at the festival also. Duane Allman is Derek's idol...
I first heard about Derek Trucks when he was playing clubs in Florida, when he was 12. Started seeing Derek Trucks Bands shows in Atlanta around 2004. Then he and Susan started doing shows called The Soul Stew Revival, so I started going to those shows. That become The Tedeschi-Trucks Band, and of course I started seeing those shows over the years. They just keep getting better with every phase they come up with. Derek is easily the best guitar player out touring today. Yeah, bring on more TTB.
Tedeschi Trucks band is awesome, Derek Truck was playing with the Allman Brothers when he was a kid. Also look into Government Mule, they're also in the Allman brother family, and in the band.
Back in the day, I got to see him take the stage with Buddy Guy at Legend's for a couple songs. Don't recall the year, but I recall Derek was 15 yo. Seeing him up close was pretty amazing. His slide hand was like watching a hummingbird! Keep traveling this road, so much great stuff out there that ppl write off. 🤙
So glad you played this. This is an early lineup of this band. Keyboardist playing a hammond b3 Kofi Burbridge passed away since then and his brother and bassist left the band. They now have a horn section and the new keyboard player has a great voice. The also added a female background vocalist. They are what I feel the best live band out there now. So talented from front to back! Derrick Trucks was a child prodigy and played in the Allman brothers band along with his uncle Butch. During that time Derrick had his own band The Derrick Trucks band and had some great albums. And then formed this band bringing with him most of the musicians from his solo band! Great relations guys I’m really digging your channel! Thanks ❤👍🏻🌻
Derek trucks, a phenomenal guitar player and disciple of Duane Allman on the slide, who has added an Indian slant to his slide playing which is absolutely beautiful. Another song You might want to hear is the Bonnie raitt John Lee Hooker song.... I'm in the mood, I'm in the mood for love.
One of my favorites of ALL TIME. Interesting little tidbit about this MONSTER lineup (RIP Kofi- he’s the GOAT) - Alicia Chakour, one of TTB’s STELLAR crew of backup singers, used to be a frequent contributor on lead vocals on Lettuce’s earlier albums! And when Eric Krasno was still in the lineup- helped co-write (with Shmeeans as well) “Learn How to Love)- one of the NASTIEST songs I’ve ever heard
Hell yeah. Check out Derek's slide playing on "Sahib Teri Bandi" is the song. Incredible sounds, never heard anything like it in western music. Obviously check out the video of him playing with Allman Brothers when he was 13 also.
First heard these guys 7-8 years ago, and they're the best band I've seen come out in the last 30 years, imho. Have seen them a couple times live, and they were terrific.
Their story is interesting - Susan Tedeschi had her own band and played with Derek's band. They merged the bands, had two kids, got married and kept going. Love them. RIP the keyboard player, Kofi, he was awesome.
