Tommy's great. I remember seeing videos of this young Hungarian kid ripping it up with another guy named Tomas Pretendi back when I first started StevieSnacks. And now he's here in the States doing his thing. Probably the most careful study of SRV's style I've seen. Guitar players either like the SRV thing or they dont't. Bottom line: there's an audience who very much loves it.
I can only speak for myself, but when you're wired a certain way, SRV's style is the only thing that feels natural. The release and relief that comes through making "that" sound feels infinitely more important than what other guitar players think about originality.

Dude, he is the GOAT when it comes to SRV tribute. He has been living in the USA/Texas for the last 17 years, and he is the most sought after performer when its about sounding like SRV. Im honored to know him from the time before he moved to the US. His bands name is Texas Flood, you should definitely check him out! They are playing over 200 gigs in a year, and for the last couple of years, they are having gigs all over the states.
I have known Tommy for several years and even taken some lessons from him. I see them live every chance I get. He is the real deal. You need to come to Texas and catch one of his shows, you will not be disappointed.
I remember seeing Tommy and the band playing in a little bitty blues bar. Well I got pretty drunk and basically got on stage. ( Allegedly) Whole bands is really friendly. They rock !

Seach Tommy here and look years back. No one does SRV better. He is from elsewhere I think and lives in Austin. Lot of content on him. He is now stepping out to be himself verses a cover guy.

I dont know how I feel about this. The performance is great, the skill is certainly up there. But vocals sounding exactly like SRV, tone, using Stevie's licks...its like mental gymnastics not to look at them as a SRV tribute group outside of missing the wardrobe. Watched the whole time waiting for the individuality to come out. Guess just a nitpick to a player is who clearly leagues better than me, haha.
Well his band, Texas Flood, was started as an SRV tribute band and I've never seen anyone come close to the real SRV sound as they do (and clearly Tommy has mastered SRV's voice as well). As for the SRV tones in his original song, sure they're there but when SRV was new I remember people saying he was too much like Hendrix. Stevie took ideas from Jimi, Albert King, Freddie King, Buddy Guy, and many others. George Thorogood took a lot from Muddy, Hooker, and others. Hell, I love John Frusciante's playing, and you can definitely hear Hendrix in his style. We all take bits and pieces of what we love to develop our own style and Tommy is no exception. He did a show a while back focusing on Gary Moore stuff - really amazing and yet he still put his own spin on it. Just my two cents.
