The Box did create peace as temporary as it is for almost around 30 years. so peaceful that EF lost most of its influence and power that when Jupiter empire and Zanscare invade they need helps from an army of Pirates/volunteers (Crossbone Vanguard and League Militaire) just to push them back with great cost.

Laplace's Box was a red herring to distract you from what really stopped the Zeonic conflicts. The most pivotal moment in history for the UC was when one man: Suberoa Zinnerman Did the hardest thing that any one man could ever do with his life> He gave up on the memory of his dead daughter for the sake of his living one. I know stuff like F91 and Victory exist. But I tend to just pretend UC ends with Unicorn. With Laplace’s box opened. And a new optimistic outlook for mankind. Maybe things aren’t perfect. But things are looking up.

When I watched Unicorn I thought the whole time that Laplace's Box was some reference to the concept of Laplace's demon and that it would be some kind of infinite energy device or thermodynamic super weapon. As the series went on I was thinking "What could it possible be to, narratively, justify all this attention and death and violence. I can't imagine what it could possibly be that I won't be disappointed". Turns out the Unicorn writers are far more creative than I am because they absolutely justified it. I cried when it was revealed what was in the box. I cried watching this video.

Underrated channel. Glad to see someone else out there who seems capable of looking at Unicorn past the surface level. It's so hard to explain why Frontal is such a beautiful character to someone who's never experienced Char. It's so difficult to convey the genius of Laplace's box to someone who never bothered with the politics behind newtypes in Gundam. Harutoshi Fukui is a genius. He managed to tie together the entire early UC into a more cohesive narrative - even explaining why the Federation always seemed so abhorred by the thought of newtypes even in original Gundam. If one abuses the box’s power even conflicts far worse will be born and humanity might as well destroy itself.

This is a criminally underrated analysis. We can definitely see how vast the inspirations and tropes of early science fiction plays into Gundam - given that it did emerge during that golden age. P.S.+ Just checked out the rest of your channel, subscribed ! Keep it up, hope you get more views.

If you wanna also add manga go with Blue Destiny, Ecole Du Ciel, Moon Gundam and Crossbone even if it adds into Victory as it cupminates the Jupiter Empire saga thats been brewing since the start of the UC era.

I love Unicorn and its one of my favorite Gundam series but the its also the hardest to recommend to other people with the sole reason it isnt stand alone. You really need to have seen at the minimum that you've seen MSG (or the movie counter parts), Zeta and Char's counter attack before watching Unicorn

I had a bad feeling about la plazas box. Because it reminded me of the sarcophagus from vampire the Mascarade. The thing could have been empty but it still caused lots of grief. So la Plazas box had me sweating.

Its the charter for the space noids who will be added to humanity...a transformed human who can exist in space...we see Benger gain access to the siacenoifs power in the final episode and the black unicirn reminds him he would be able to exist wuth the Princess in this new state...and he's returned to the human form...the box seems related to the various new types that exist the space noise being a form of new type too. The unicorn believes in the gid known as possibility but can be referred to as the beast of possibility too...

So is Full Frontal Char? I was always confused.

UNIVERSAL CENTURY IS MY FAVORITE FICTIONAL UNIVERSE EVER AND GUNDAM UNICORN IS MY FAVORITE STORY OF ALL TIME! Hehe. I just have to tell you, this video made me smile. The way you examined this anime's themes and messages. Also, I feel like Zeta was kind of critical of rigid gender roles in a way. Emma, being strong, independent and principled, vs Reccoa seeing he role needing to be submissive to a man which causes her to betray her cause. *SPOILER ALERT HERE* In the final battle when Emma and Reccoa fought each other, Emma felt Reccoa's feelings, and Emma began to almost sympathize with her, and then at that moment, she got hit by debris from an explosion, which to me, kind of symbolized a punishment for even bothering to entertain Reccoa's worldview, seeing it as beneath consideration.

I'm so sorry but I don't quite get it. So why did Mineva chose to reveal Laplace's box? Because she believed in the possibility of what happening?

I always wondered Why the hell Amuro and Bright are keep serving a faction who despises them, feared them, and even treated them badly? The Feddies did nothing at all to helping the AEUG to fought against the Titans and Neo Zeon, forcing them to fight bith of them on their own or had to reliying on Karaba. They're only care about their own stuffs as they're letting the colony dropped on Dublin, a city full of civilians and fine with it as they seeing it as an efficient way to control the populations, forcing people to immigrates to space colonies (which is ironically the exact same thing Char trying to do), and directed the dropping colony to the populated area instead of somewhere empty or sacrifing their base to save people. They're only care about their own face and image by deleting the entire data and records of GP Project, leaving the EXAM (and possibly HADES) incident unrecorded, abandoning all of the Titans images, which is a squadron they themselves formed to hunted Zeon remnants, trying to covering up or destroying the Laplace Box from revealing it to the public, and even changing its contents, and somehow managed to makes things unchanged despite the box is opened, resulting all of the efforts and sacrifices Banagher and Mineva make become in vain, and even deliberately didn't telling Bright that they've captured and executing Hathaway (AKA Mafty Navue Erin) first. They didn't even gave the Spacenoids a right to govern independently, and even heavily rejected Newtypes existance by creating the multiple Newtype eliminating machines. But at least Sayla, Kai, and one of the former White Base crew, Oscar Dublin are aware of that. If Amuro and Bright still think that the Feddies still can be change, unfortunately they're wrong, as they got collapsed and disbanded in UC. 218 after losing influences due to the multiple conflicts and corruption.

If the Dark Century is canon like we've all been shown it to be, then No, Peace was NEVER achieved in fact it's quite the opposite Gundams Mobile Suits War in general continued on and on for centuries until humanity was forced to forget in the hopes it wouldn't be repeated. G-Recca is what follows so war still continues to be waged eons later. Peace is an ideology that can never be maintained as long as there are multiple factions vying for supremeacy, opposing ideals, religion, resources, and land the only way that stops is if a third party FORCES humanity to unite and to keep the absurdity of war in check. This was shown blatantly within the 00 franchise with Celestial Being's Armed Interventions, which were working until Alhandro Quarter and Ribbons screwed everything up for their own warped purposes. Ribbons wasn't entirely wrong though, Humanity as a whole needs better leadership under one person that CAN get the job done. I'm not saying each country can't be managed by other leaders if anything it eases stress and tension with properly running them but having a single person with a good head on their shoulders, who's a realist, and has adequate knowledge could easily make things more streamlined on more "Global Matters" that has nothing to do with any single nation but humanity as a whole. This is my opinion though.

For me it’s just the build up to the box being important and the characters I was invested in that made the reveal the most infuriating. So many people have lost their lives for this thing. An entire colony of people were either crushed, blown up, shot or sucked into the void of space to die a horrific death for it, an entire town of innocent people were blown to hell and Zeon rebels were brutally murdered because of it. A child is without a father for this thing and what is it? Nothing more than words from an old and forgotten charter that the federation could ignore anyway. So many people in this show died for basically nothing whether they were willing in giving their lives or not and all that’s there to show for the sacrifice and war crimes made by either side of this conflict is nothing more than one insignificant article!? Look I know this didn’t happen, this is a franchise based around giant humanoid robot suits flying around in space I’m not an idiot. But still that shows how invested I got into the story that I remembered all the characters that died in order to get to that stupid box to begin with. I dunno it just seems really cheap and downright offensive to just have so much death and misery in your show for the pay off to it all being some old ass policy that a dictatorship like the Federation can and probably did easily dismiss.

I'd say if you're at all into Gundam anything, you really do owe it to yourself to watch MSG/Zeta/ZZ/Char's Counterattack/Unicorn. If you're not into Gundam, I don't know if I 'd start there. 1979 Gundam's pacing is bad and how women are regarded in the show is really not great by today's standards. Zeta has similar problems. The pacing's a bit better, but the series is very depressing and it's not really better in terms of how it regards women. ZZ is not as well regarded mostly because of the tonal whiplash after Zeta, but just run with it when the time comes. And without these as a backdrop, Unicorn just doesn't make a lot of sense. I'd start in an OVA or one of the alternate universes. Which one depends. If you can handle a really dark ending, 0080 is a good start. If that's a little much, 08th MS Team has more modern animation and gives you a great place to jump into the One Year War. I also like the idea of Iron Blooded Orphans to get an idea of what you're in for before diving into UC. Because once you dive into UC, you're really going to find that you kinda need to watch three whole series and then some to really understand the story.
