Guthrie, was the original capital of Oklahoma. Now it has over 2,000 building that make up its historic district, one of which I get to see a cat play land from the street. Witness my weak attempt to uncover masonic secrets. 🤣

That was Pam Ekiss at the drug store, her father was the pharmacist. What a Great family. Guthrie has such a sorted past. From shootings in the Blue Bell Saloon to the Under Ground Railroad moving runaway slaves north for there freedom. The place has its dark side also as many city's do. There are also so many good stories an good people.

I got to witness some of those good people. Thanks so much for sharing all that info. I had no idea the underground railroad went through here! You're right, many cities and towns have good and bad history but Guthrie is special in so many ways. It was a pleasure visiting and I look forward to returning one day. Thanks again for stopping by my channel!

I hide in the basement of one of the buildings. At 17:53 in video is when you are walking by the actual smallest park . You’ll pass the frame and see the tree which is in the park. But you can’t actually go in there because it is the USPS secure parking. This town is neat.

I live in Guthrie and enjoyed the video. I lived on a property that was at one time an all black cemetary for civil war veterans. Apalling to me how little regard past owners treated their resting place.

Wow! Guthrie has so much history, good and not so good. I enjoyed visiting and you have some of the nicest people you can meet there. Thank you for sharing that for me and other viewers. It is appalling to know that the memories of our veterans of any period were disrespected. Thanks again!

There is a wealth of Black History in and around Guthrie! Less than 10min drive is a HBCU Langston University. There were very well developed Black communities in Guthrie during segregation. They had their own schools grocery stores doctors offices etc etc. I’ve heard first hand accounts from a Black gentleman in his late 90s give a lecture. I got to take a picture with him after his lecture. Not too many true old timers left like him left.

That's exciting to know! I'm disappointed that I didn't know about this when i was there. Im sure ill be back one day and Ill probably search for any remnants of that area that existed during segregation. Thanks so much for sharing this with me and my viewers. 🙏🏾

Guthrie deserves to be the capital over OKC (it was originally meant to be the capital but lost its title to OKC) I would’ve loved to see what Guthrie would’ve looked like if it grew like OKC did

That's pretty cool to think about. I'd be a completely different place! It has held on to some of its old charm. Kinda hard to imagine it with tall buildings and bustling streets. I know one thing though, it was my favorite place to visit in Oklahoma. Sounds like you like it too. Thanks for stopping by.

Guthrie has much to recommend it; sadly, when Dad retired from the USAF in 1967, and we settled there, Lintz' Department Store introduced me to something I'd not yet experienced. Yep, Lintz' had little plaque's that segregated the water fountains. Then it becomes difficult NOT to see things, like the little Black kids at "Easy's Bowling Alley," (below street level) who manually set pins for 5 cents an hour......endlessly.

Wow, that must have been a serious culture shock! I enjoyed my time visiting. I hd a similar experience when I was younger. My dad was transferred from San Francisco to Mobile, Alabama. I'm sure you can imagine the experiences I would have for the first time. Glad you shared here and hope you stick around the channel for some great video I have coming.

The nations smallest national park is actually at the south west corner of the post office (directly opposite to where you were). You walked by it at 17:57 Allegedly, it was a typo, it was supposed to be 100 square acres, but they wrote 100 square feet. Another interesting thing is there is an island in the middle of the river that use to have much more downtown, it flooded long ago and is no longer accessible due to the Hazzard conditions of the ruins there. If I remember correctly there was a lot of black history there.
@novelworldtravels
@novelworldtravels Год назад
Thank you for clarifying where the park is. I guess I misunderstood where it was. Im sure the area where black history was is interesting. I think I'll return one of these days. Thank you!

The Grand lodge presides over the states blue lodges The temple in Guthrie is a Scottish rite temple which is an appendant body of freemasonry You should have knocked on the door Someone would have loved to speak with you I’m sure !
@novelworldtravels
@novelworldtravels Год назад
If I had known, I would have certainly knocked. Id love to learn more. If im honest, I know very little about freemasonry and the Idea of freemasonry in general American culture can sometimes spark fear and suspicion, so I thought I was pushing my luck by just being there. Judging by your message, that's far from the truth. Thanks for your message! Maybe I'll visit another lodge and speak to someone next time.

As far as I remember, I didnt see many or any black people in the downtown area, but I saw some in the city of Guthrie at a few other places. I like thrift stores so I stopped there and saw a few black people there. There are definitely some that live in the town because I saw publications from the area with black people in it talking about things indicating that they were from there. It was a cool place. Visit if you get a chance!
