Test drove this bakkie and I must say it is a BEAST!!. Extreamly comfortable,great performance for a 2.0 engine. And has so much advanced technology. GWM have really done a great Job here. I cant wait to see the sales stats to because they are being baught so much. Would love to see more reviews of the P series competing with the ranger and hilux, (Tug of war,offroading obstacles,drag races,comfort tests etc)

Just put an order in for an Australian-Delivered vehicle. Turbo lag is the only real issue. Depreciation might be a problem, but I'm used to it - as I used to drive Holdens...
Will definitely go for a look, currently have a Foton and it's been a good ute but there's a question about any new models coming,my only concern is the engine,how the gwm will handle towing caravan,and would like to see some on the road
South Africa responded very well to the Haval brand. Can't wait to see these Bakkies in our city traffic, which makes me wonder of its offroad capabilities.

Excellent demonstration very well done AND so true. I now owned one for nearly a year; Cannon X did very rough tracks such as Birdsville track towing a Eurostar (converted to be semi offroad). The bottom line...this Ute beats MANY others by far...and rides better than MOST passenger cars!

I think it generates 400nm Torque with 120KW so I wouldn't worry about that - GWM like HAVAL is doing incredible things extracting the most power out their engines.
Honestly if it was my money I'd go Ranger or Hilux just for peace of mind... BUT!! GWM are definitely onto something with this bakkie, and if they keep such growth and development they will definitely be a mainstream option in the near future
Right now in market checking best value bakkie. So feel it’s underpowered though..but definitely worth considering. Choice was BT50 or ranger so yeah. Great review 🙏🏿
Haters think it as a cheap ford ranger copy! Indeed it offers lot for the price ! I wish they make even a land cruiser 70 rival sitting on twin beam axles ! By simply putting in a 3l diesel engine and not some fancy v8 ! Regards from India

Especially in australia where they would just make racial jokes on indians and then would go for a ford ranger that won't last even 85k kms until they realise that these cheap affordable trucks can last 300k kms without any rebuild ! Same shit with even those people who make toxic opinion on the chinese without realising how better they have been getting since 2008 ! It's not only because people only recognise bigger brands but for the fact that they racially choose their products based on the background and country of origin ! In today's world , idiots beleive more on "unreliable" status than affordable long lasting quality ! And many idiots would buy expensive stuffs like toyota and ford ( altough I am a toyota fanboy and I love my LC HZJ70 troopy and quality of toyota is best , no doubt) ! This is a comment I wanted to see, I'm looking at a second hand Toyota 4x4 D4D 3.0 4x4 with 170000km, one owner who I know personally. No offense to GWM, their P Series offerings are looking good.
Toyota, isuzu, and all the other utes should be paying attention to this car, I put an order for one of these and would have never considers a Chinese Ute before this
Test drove it a few days ago, I must say it has by far the best interior to any bakkie. The turbo lag is a bit annoying for especially for someone who drives the 2.8 GD6 Auto Hilux which is ready to go the moment you lift the foot off the brake pedal.
Any 2l turbo diesel overstressed to 350nm or above would respond the same ! My experience with the 2l ford everest was really bad ! It had loads of lags more than even the l series ! I guess it would be better if they provide tge 3l v6 diesel which they were planning !

I’ve had 3 GWM steeds through the years and even though affordable the aftermarket support and service centres are horrible. I’ll never buy any form of GWM due to that. I purchased a 2nd had ford ranger to avoid this mistake.
very underpowered, I drove one for a week and not impressed at all especially when we piled 4 hefty adults and a 200kg payload on the tray. It felt strained and snail-pace up even the smallest inclines
ill drive my cannon x for 5 yrs sell and if i get back just under half im happy tax write off still be 28000 better off than a toyota with less tech and luxury
taking into consederation that most bakkies like for instance nissan ford toyota cheapest bakkies starts off their prices cheapest models higher then tis bakkie .Imust say 2 things gwm has been gone for a long time from the market in sa with their bakkies going into suvs and although we al im sure wondered i can tell you one thing for sure gwm has done their homework with all the way with this bakkie .I would even go as far as saying no 2 it feels like the bakkie market are in absolute war again with each other for the market example think for instance you have newer updated ranger ,the new legend from hilux,navara nissan have a brand new bakkie out and also this bakkie who also came in .But what the most well known manufacturers did not expect is that this bakkie came into the sa market at a time where well i for one think it will do very well in sales.Im am very intrested to see how this bakkie is gonna do in sales .
What about quality of shock absorbers, about quality of body steel, rust prevention, dust ingress prevention, towing abilities, paint quality, ....time is of the essence. Usually those chineses stuff break within few months....
The price on this bakkie is perfect. Merc benz used someone else skin and over priced it. Hope this one stays longer to disrupted the market. Bakkies now cost million rands with Extras that you get here
You review a 4X4 and don't take it off-road??? Anyway - till date the Chinese still haven't figured out long term reliability, and resale values are depressing! I'l pass, thanks. (Work in used vehicles btw)

I don't know why but i can't take ignition car..let's call them commentators seriously, honestly i'd rather watch an episode of 5th gear(another really bad car show) backwards while on fire. Where do they find these wallpaper paste commentators, not to mention the repetitive looped b-roll of mate "4 wheeling" it through the same pothole. Good product, terrible content. RU-vid's algorithm just wasted my time, imma go back and watch the Marble olympics instead.
Many owners of Ford and Hilux are actually trading in their bakkies for the GWM P series. Infact both Hilux and ford look cheap compared to the P Series.
