Thank you so much for joining me for this amazing movie, I really appreciate you stopping by.
The true story of Pfc. Desmond T. Doss (Andrew Garfield), who won the Congressional Medal of Honor despite refusing to bear arms during WWII on religious grounds. Doss was drafted and ostracized by fellow soldiers for his pacifist stance but went on to earn respect and adoration for his bravery, selflessness and compassion after he risked his life -- without firing a shot -- to save 75 men in the Battle of Okinawa

I’m a skeptical atheist meaning while I’m an atheist in skeptical about atheism. The sheer number of stories like that where so may coincidences and feats beyond a big heavy man with a gun but a skinny vegetarian (I guess skinny is redundant) with no sleep and busted arm being able to do that. But and interesting philosophical question occurred to me yesterday how do we distinguish the strength faith gives you in moments like this and the strength gif gives you? Maybe belief makes you strong, a psychological trick. You believe he is making you stronger so your body produces more strength.

@@jimmy2k4oI had an experience in a store parking lot. I kept having something telling me danger that’s all it was saying was danger. I kept looking around as I was putting my groceries in the trunk. I’m like looking for danger where where is danger and it kept telling me there was danger and I kept looking around and I couldn’t see anything then. All of a sudden I seen this very angry, looking man walking straight for me. I’m not very big I wasn’t sure what to do. He was making a beeline street for me angriest person I’ve ever seen, suddenly I just put my hand out and I said stop right there. I don’t have anything for you, he gave me a strange look turned right around and left. I finished putting in my groceries got in the car and thought to myself. What the heck just happened. Total divine intervention. No one can tell me any different on that.

@@wheredidthetimego8087 I come Walked home From A family party and we we’re migrating to the house of one of the cousins for the after party. I was around 13 Years old, moderately drunk, walking to my cousins house to continue the party. I got lost looking for my cousins house but I know I was in the right street and saw a couple in the distance, I shouted from a distance “here mate!!!! Can you help me!?!? I’m Lost.” He hard me and looked in my direction and started charging at me while his girlfriend screamed at him to stop. As he ran with a drawn back fist I didn’t budge As he got within 15 feet I put both my hands out to say stop. Smiles And said “wow man! Take it easy I come In peace………….he stopped if for not other reason to figure out what I was gonna say. “I’m Looking for my cousins House and I’m Lost, he lives local was hoping you knew him, James Kelly? The drinker guy relaxed, laughed and put his arm Over my shoulder and said “yeah lol I know Jim, he’s right over here and walked me to my cousins. Then he came in and joined us for a few drinks. They came up with 75 because Doss estimated he brought down 50 and others said about 100. For his Medal of Honor citation they split the difference and said 75. Later Army analysis estimated he saved just over 100.

@CinJyxxe

In fairness, Doss's objection to the estimate is kind of fair: he wouldn't have had time to save much more than 50. He was alone on Hacksaw for around 12 hours, so even at just 50, that meant he was sending someone down every 15 minutes. He also sent down a few who didn't survive, and wouldn't have been included in the final tally. But Doss himself is the only one who said 50. Everyone else thought he saved closer to 100. That means he almost definitely saved more than 50 lives. Call him a hero, a saint, a man of god, whatever it may be. But for that short time, Desmond Doss pushed the boundaries of what it means to be a human.

It took nearly 9hours to find his bible and his brothers in arms would not rest till they found it other battalions joined in the search because of they did for them. D.Doss had actually received the bronze star for lives he saved in two previous battles he was involved in so in his career he saved around 300 men. His father was awarded the bronze star for lives he saved in WW1 sadly he was unable to save his friends so he suffered from severe PTSD. He came back a truly broken man who lost his faith not just in god but probably in mankind too as WW1 was the introduction to a form of warfare they had never seen before. The actor who played his father did a absolutely amazing job capturing that horror. Such heroes.

So to keep the movie short and for narrative purposes the real fact of him being injured is as he was being moved he ordered the stretcher bears to take a more wounded man and due to this he had to crawl his way back to the cliff and while doing this he was was eventually picked up by a buddy but was hit in the arm hence why in the ending picture he is wearing a cast. Also on the official record it says 75 men but the corpsman and doctors reportedly told him he had saved more then 100 men but Desmond said it couldn’t have been more then 50 so they compromised on 75. Also hacksaw wasn’t Desmonds first battle but instead his 3rd. He was at the battles of Guam and Leyte very tough and bloody battles. In fact during the battle of hacksaw he had tuberculosis which he got in Leyte and wouldn’t be treat for till after the battle, so during this entire time he was saving men he was on one lung and very little food due to being a vegetarian. Despite all this doss would would try to be a carpenter, but due to his arm being damaged he would instead go on to work on a farm raised a small family

My grandfather was a master sergeant at For Jackson after Vietnam. I saw the photos he had taken of the battlefield and still have the newspapers of the end of WW2. It brings reality to what these young men saw and lived through. My grandfather is Still alive and he still loves life to the fullest and still smokes to this day. An incredible human. It may interest u to know that at the time of hacksaw ridge Desmond Doss had tuberculosis to which he later lost a lung to. As u saw he was also vegetarian but due to lack of food for him he was surviving on crackers and water. What he did is nothings short of a miracle, i would recommend his autobiography as there is so much they had to leave out as truly unbelievable such as Japanese soldiers who tried to shoot Desmond but their guns jammed but when aimed at the floor nothing was wrong with the weapons.

Here was a man living his life by his own values and standing by them whatever was thrown at him. He never tried to influence anyone else to follow his values nor did he try to change the world to suit him. He just wanted to do his duty without a weapon. One of the bravest men that ever lived. Today's woke society should take a good look at this man who chose to be different but accepted everyone one else for who they were and didn't try to change anyone or anything. He was a vegetarian but army rations were mostly meat based however he simply swapped what food he could and did not make an issue of it. What he did in his role as a medic was so incredible yet he remained so humble.

I like your reaction; your comments, on my favorite war movie. Since you plan to research Doss further you will likely find out that on Hacksaw alone he is reported to have saved well over 100 men. When they were preparing his Medal of Honor citation, Doss, with his usual modesty, thought that putting over 100 on it was akin to bragging. He asked that they put 50 as the figure. They ended up splitting the difference at 75. I have not read the citation, so they may have added "...or more". One report you might not find: After the war, one of the (few) Japanese survivors of the battle of Hacksaw Ridge was a sniper, who recognized a picture of Doss. He testified that at one point Doss came into his field of fire. He was all alone, and it was an easy shot. Doss should have been a sitting duck. But the Japanese sniper's rifle malfunctioned. He cleared it and tried again. But it kept malfunctioning until Doss was out of sight. Then it suddenly was in perfect working order again. On a careful examination there was no sign of anything wrong with his rifle or his ammunition. Some Christians suspect that this was a miracle--Divine protection over Doss. Form your own opinion.

I knew you would appreciate this movie after your respecful way you regarded "Band of Brothers". Mel Gibson has directed several period films but the accuracy was slighted & ignored in favor of unnecessary sensationalism (Braveheart, The Patriot fir example). However, in this & "We Were Soldiers" he did indeed hit home runs...grand slams imo. The accuracy is well regarded as top tier akin to BoB. Doss' story is an inspiring account of faith & conviction. He & his generation have a permanent place in my heart, they are men whom I admire, of my grandfathers time...we cannot let their stories be forgotten. Thank you. Edit: I wish there were films depicting England, Australian, Canadian, Polish etc. as they too cannot be allowed to fade away. The RAF in the defense of The Blitz is just amazing....& God's Providence was there as well. The Desert Rats, Aussie Corp, etc. All heroes in my book.

This movie takes to much of the truth away because they said they didn’t think people would believe it. Sadly, due to that, the movie ended up only so accurate.

The Real story is far more farfetched if it were made up he did more battles.. in that one had 17 pieces of shrapnel in him from the grenade

I love your reaction videos, but this one was difficult to get thru. first half of the film it didnt think you came across serious, almost a joke. But towards the end of the movie it felt the gravity how I feel when I see it.

Here is some Good News that is worth eternal life. Romans 5:8-11 "But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life; and not only so, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received the reconciliation." Mark 1:15 “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel.” 🙏 What is the Gospel? Read 1 Corinthians 15:1-4. John 3:16-17. You can read it online if you don't have a Bible.

Why would you put someone down for their accomplishments? I am a proud son of a proud father, and just because billions of people have raised children doesnt make it any less important or special. Praying for You.
