My dad basically went through this with his dad. My grandpa was in the army for a long time, saw action in the Pacific, a boxer, and to put the cherry on top from the mix of it all, he became an alcoholic, so he had a lot of screws undone in his head. One night my dad had enough of the abuse towards my grandma, and it took a cop pointing a gun at my dad to keep him from shooting my grandpa. My dad and I one night sat down to watch this movie and when it got to this scene, y'all, I have never seen my dad cry! We didn't finish the movie together but I did.

A lot of people are to quick to judge the father. He’s a veteran with serious ptsd or shell shock. He abuses alcohol to help but this is the product of war. I honestly feel for the dad in this situation!

Gut wrenching scene considering she’ll get beat on terribly and she’s super ready to defend her husband still. Reminds me of my grandmother sadly. Veterans don’t come back the same person. My grandfather lost a lot of people he cared about in Vietnam.

War does stuff to you. Horrible stuff that you couldn't even imagine, look at Desmond's father.

“But you didn’t kill him?” “In my heart, I did.” That line felt like someone stabbing you in the belly and wrenching it further into your stomach.

When I watched this movie this part almost made me cry😢

The Dad suffered from a PTSD, a battle, and alot on his mind, even Him. And the Mother, being through with this family fight (this scene), Even the Brother, Deployed to the war.

Belleau wood was fcking crazy to hear.. my friends grandpa had ptsd so sever his eyes were basically bloodshot 😔 he finally got to see the end of his war a few years back 😕 crazy old man ❤️

Damn... Spiderman vs Red Skull is pretty sad.

I swear this is one of the best war movies I've ever seen. Andrew did amazing. All these actors did their rolls amazing, and then ending eith the actual vets just breaks your heart

Man that veteren was fighting with his wife, and then his son came in to the rescue, man Desmond is a hero helping his mom. 😊

Andrew's performance in this entire movie truly is the most phenomenal piece of active i've ever had the pleasure of witnessing. He deserves all the credit he got and then some.

He fought in ww1 he had all the memories of friends who died and people he knew getting massacred that hits hard

Hacksaw Ridge is an absolute masterpiece

It’s sad knowing the context of it all. His father went though ww1 or the Great War n has no other way to cope with the trauma other than being a miserable drunk. And when he gets that opportunity to die in front of everyone he’s ever loved, he’d still take it cos of how much he can’t stand living with the pain and loss he’s been surrounded by in that war.

it's amazing how strong Desmond trully is, reminds me of my pops. My granpops was an officer in the pacific and korean war, and my mom says that she and him didn't have a close relationship bec he was distant. She says, she's very happy to see that's not the case between us. I didn't have dad but he was the best alternative a kid can ask for. I think he quietly admitted he wasn't thw best dad, but I tell ya, he was the best grandad anyone could ever have. We were very close when i was a kid, and then we live together for 2yrs in in my early 20s in San Fran. It's funny bec he barely says anything, but when he does I learned so much on how to be a man of substance. Miss you pops, RIP.

The father was a ww1 vet who saw all his friends die…. The son went on to be an amazing medic who has not taken a life or held a rifle during the Second World War. Hacksaw ridge is an amazing movie.
