I have lived in Manitoba for 4 years, experienced temps. as low as - 40s°C - 55°C, even if you have winter tires on your car, it would be advisable to get a crossover/ SUV vehicle AWD, or just move to BC, take my advise cheers.

Your doing a great job from winter shopping, to driving slowly. Stuck at home revising for ILETS hope things will get better.
@DaveGIS123
@DaveGIS123 3 года назад
Here's a couple more winter driving tips: You mentioned driving slowly. That's usually the right thing to do because, if you start to skid, you won't slide as far. Just as important is to not make any sudden movements --- don't turn too quickly, or brake too quickly, or speed up too quickly. If you make sudden movements, you're more likely to lose traction. When you're in motion, try not to speed up or slow down at too high a rate -- that way, not only do you maintain traction, but you also make your movements more predictable and less of a risk to other drivers. You mentioned keeping a safe distance away from other cars, which is a smart thing to do because you'll give yourself more reaction time. Just as important is to develop your "defensive driving" skills. Learn how to read the road, and anticipate difficulties before they occur. This way, you'll not be surprised when a car ahead of you changes lanes in the snow, say, or brakes suddenly. Likewise, you'll not be startled when a traffic light at an icy intersection turns red, because you'll have anticipated this and given yourself a longer time to react to road conditions. (This, in turn, will make it less likely you'll need to make sudden movements as I described above!). If you do start to skid, regain control by "turning into the skid". If the car is skidding counterclockwise, turn the front wheels clockwise. If the car is skidding clockwise, turn the front wheels counterclockwise. Slowly take your foot off the gas, don't touch the brakes, don't make sudden movements, and don't oversteer --- just calmly bring the car back under control. Carry a winter survival kit, including an emergency snow shovel (there are folding shovels with telescoping handles that will fit in your trunk). If you're ever stuck, you'll quickly see how a snow shovel is a wonderful investment. Cheers.

Mississauga and Toronto do not get -30 weather. Winnipeg, Calgary, Edmonton yes, not Southern Ontario. You will never get a snow storm when it is really cold. In order for it to snow, you get cold first then it warms up. The cities keep the streets cleaned really well in the winter in Southern Ontario.

Come to Canada in the spring, to give yourself time to go through summer, fall, then winter. Winter is the season everyone prepares for. The person in this video should be driving in the right lane if he's going slower than everyone else.

Southern Ontario has easier winters than the eastern provinces. Check out some videos on winter in the east. There is one with a guy opening his door and is greeted by a wall of snow. They had to shovel their way out of the house. Lol others have to get on the roof and shovel the snow off. Too much weight. The northern U.S. Also has a lot of snow too. Also up north in they put chains in their tires.
