August 18, 2021. Mount Baker Wilderness, Whatcom County, Washington.
The approach to this non-technical climb was via Cougar Divide and Chowder Ridge.
Due to all of the loose rock on the summit scramble, a climbing helmet is advisable. Most of the time in hiking season traction and/or an ice axe is also advisable, mainly because of a potentially hazardous snow/ice crossing near the top of Chowder Ridge.

Road is a bit rough but I had no problem going up it in a low-clearance vehicle.

Any reason you went cougar divide instead of skyline divide? Looking to hike this tomorrow and wanna perfect the plan

It saves a few miles. Also you can avoid the crowds.

Thanks for the video. I have been on Skyline many times and up on Hadley via Skyline. I was thinking of camping out at the end of Cougar as I have on Skyline, great to get a sunset and sunrise in from this area. Have you camped at the end of Skyline and if so how does it compare to Cougar. I'd be camping for photography purposes so thats the criteria not the actual camp spot. thanks.

I haven't actually camped on either one, but it seems to me that the views from Skyline go further, because the end of Cougar has more nearby ridges blocking views beyond. But if you were to go from Cougar to the top of Chowder Ridge, that would be probably be the best of all.

Thanks. Crater Mtn in the Pasayten? I was there once just under the summit; that last part was a hard nope for me. Might try it again sometime as that was a long time ago.

@@MrArtudtoo yeah, that’s the one. It’s got to be clear of snow by this point but wouldn’t surprise me if not. Keep up the great vids man, those North Cascades are something special.
