Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today we're discussing the fan theory that Rubeus Hagrid was a DEATH EATER.
Since the original release of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone in 1997, theories based on the wizarding world of Harry Potter have abounded. There are theories out there that Professor Severus Snape was a vampire and that Hermione and Harry were actually siblings. Some of these theories are more popular and widespread than others-such as the idea that Neville Longbottom was actually the Chosen One Professor Trelawney spoke of in her prophecy about the downfall of Lord Voldemort. There are also outlandish speculations that barely deserve any discussion. Today, however, I’ll be taking you through a fan theory that has gained some massive traction online-the idea that Rubeus Hagrid was in fact a Death Eater.
The majority of this theory has been presented by a Reddit user by the name of Whoofph, who shared his theory on the sub-Reddit “FanTheories”. Upon first learning of this theory, I must admit-I was skeptical. How could the blundering, yet lovable half-giant, who rescued Harry from the Dursleys, secretly be a dark wizard in DIRECT conflict with those he was supposed to be allied with? But after reading it, I must admit, the theory is compelling and filled with some incredibly plausible evidence. It is worth noting, however, that the author of the theory has conceded that much of “the evidence” against Hagrid can likely be chalked up to plot holes, especially earlier on in the series-but it’s still fascinating to see how it all fits so well together to support the idea that Hagrid could have actually been a double agent, and follower of Lord Voldemort. As another fan pointed out, the idea that this could be true also provides a really interesting balance to Severus Snape being a double agent for Dumbledore.
In any case, let’s take a look at some of the most valid points-at least in my opinion-that support the idea that Hagrid was a Death Eater from this popular fan theory…

Yes, exactly. There was no malice in him at all. He was child-like (witness all those huge sulking episodes when things went wrong) and completely ignorant of how other people coped (or didnt) with animals which he admired, but he had no bad intent. He would have either worked at or gone to school with most of the people he'd known (he and Voldemort were just a couple of years shy of one another) and there is no way he would follow anyone whom he knew had framed him as Voldemort did. In fact, I find the entire thing preposterous. Rowling is on record as saying she created Dumbledore's and Hagrid's names (white and red respective) to represent good. This from the author herself. What more is there to say?

I believe that, if the Fantastic Beasts prequels had continued, we would have seen why Dumbledore so deeply trusted Hagrid with his life. I am quite certain that Hagrid saved Dumbledore’s life at a most critical moment, to be so profoundly trusted. After DD achieved the elder wand, he used it to repair Hagrid’s wand and taught him quite a bit of magic, cautioning him to use it sparingly, as not to attract too much attention….and yes, that includes apparition and transfiguration. Maybe Dumbledore secretly taught Hagrid to apparate so that he could do certain errands without getting in trouble. Considering that the dursleys had pretty much offended him by insulting Dumbledore I don't think he had any remorse doing the pig's tail. I get that it's fun to gather pieces to form theories, and that like you said, the people who make them don't necessarily believe them. But there's already points besides how some things were just plotholes due to certain concepts not being properly introduced in the earlier books yet. Hagrid could have just been around to visit James and Lily back then easily. They were good friends and probably one of the few ones who accepted him for who he was, and that's the whole reason why it makes no sense for him to be a Death Eater surrounding himself with people who hate anything not "pure" when he had people like Dumbledore who accepted squibs, poltergeist, and whatnot and gave them a place to call home. Plus, his connection to Harry is genuine since he obviously identified with him in a way seeing how he couldn't be seen as a normal person and always "The Boy Who Lived" instead. Hagrid sent all the letters to Privet Drive, so he must have witnessed his fair share of Dudley treating Harry like complete garbage as a human punching bag. He probably observed even more before that since he could have tasked to watch Harry even before then. Looking at it that way, his spell against Dudley hardly seems bad. And Dumbledore must have pulled some strings to allow Hagrid to use magic on that mission since he even said that was why he was so keen to take it. Wouldn't surprise me if the Ministry let that one transgression against a Muggle go because of that and because it was against someone treating Harry poorly. As for Hagrid encouraging Harry in the Triwizard tournament, it's been known he had a different perspective on what is dangerous compared to others. He was just excited for Harry and probably wanted people to see he could do something that wasn't about stopping Voldemort with his past fame. He was always supporting his Quidditch too, and it's not like he didn't have moments where he disagreed with them putting themselves at risk. As for spells not being directed at him, I'm guessing it's because he's not as affected by magic with giant blood. And I think Voldemort didn't kill him in the forest since he thought Harry was already dead and he wanted to see Hagrid suffer instead. And he wanted to show the others there was a clear witness to Harry's "death".

Hagrid is the trio’s best friend. Granted Hagrid can’t keep a secret and is somewhat clumsy and impractical as a wizard but to have him involved in the Death Eaters would either be a ploy or a mistake on Hagrid’s part. Most of this can be chalked up to Hagrid making poor decisions, and there’s no way voldemort would want a half giant in his ranks. He only accepted werewolves, dementors, ect. into his army as cannon fodder to attack Hogwarts. Also as gameskeeper I’m pretty sure he’s responsible for wild pigs on the grounds (I don’t know if it’s explicitly mentioned but a few video games depict them). Him needing a spell to regrow pig tails seems likely if the pigs get attacked by magical creatures.

Did Hagrid know that Tom Riddle was Lord Voldemort or did he just know that he was the accuser? Also Dumbledore send him to the Potter house and the fidelius charm was defunct and on top of that the fidelius charm doesn't hide the address, it hides the actual location. After the fatal night the house was concealed from muggles, but still visibile for wizards. This wouldn't be possible if Pettigrew still were the secret keeper. If Hagrid led Harry to Voldemort in the forrest, Voldy wouldn't be surprised by his presence and instead be waiting for him. And telling Harry about the stone only makes sense if Dumbledore told him so, if it really was accidental or if he knew that only Harry(and maybe Dumbledore) can solve the last task. But it would be against everything we know about Voldy to trust a half-giant and a first-year-student to achieve something he can not. Also it must have been without Quirrell's knowledge, because he didn't had a strategy, again.

Hagrrid also had an affinity for dark and man eating creatures like dragons, blast ended screwts, acromantulas, "fluffy", he tells Quirrel how to get pas the 3 headed dog to get the philosopher's stone, & he most likely illegally creates new dark creatures like the blast ended skrewts mix of a manticore and fire crab. The acromantulas Hagrid harbors in the dark forest ar XXXXX creatures known wizard killers and like the basilisk are almost certainly illegal to breed and harbor. Hagrid also sends Harry to Aaragog almost getting him killed. Hagrid faced a lot of prejudice as a child although it is ironic that this might have made him susceptible to Tom Riddle's influence Riddle coud have exploited Hagrid's desire to be accepted to get him in his ranks. They dont accept you I will make them accept you I will make you one of us all you have to do is take my mark and they wil have to respect you Hagrid. Hagrid would have been very desirable as a death eater as a half giant he woud be trememndously powerful, he coud bring other giants to join Tom's army a formiddable force, he could be a double agent, Hagrid was also a very powerful wizard and could breed and control dark creatures that Riddle could have used in his army. For al we know Hagrid might have even helped Riddle with the basilisk Hagrid seems to connect instantly with dark creatures especilly man eaters. Perhaps being half giant Hagrid has a taste for flesh himself and Riddle could supply this in abundance for Hagrid and his dark creatures if they served the dark lord.

One of the reasons I say this, is that when he was supposed to be under the Imperius curse he was able to speak freely, is due to the fact he was pretending to be under the curse, when in fact he was either immune to it, or to powerful to be under its effect. Another interesting aspect is when he was struck on his motorcycle, he was just stunned briefly instead of being killed, like others. The Apparition ability is a very interesting one because only Dumbledore is able to Apparate within Hogwarts grounds, as he mentioned, but what if Hagrid is also able to do that just because of his strong magical abilities? I would say that Hagrid was a loyal member of The Order of the Phoenix and to Dumbledore because he was left to study magic after being expelled and even helped out by Dumbledore and his magical abilities are the only reason why Dumbledore entrusted him with so many difficult tasks and put in his care so many important things and even Harry.

You can explain the transfiguration on Dudley's face as Hagrid being so furious over the Dursley slurs he was unable to control his emotions, and the magic spilled out of him. Harry performed several acts of magic as a child even without a wand, so did Neville, Tom Riddle etc. The connections to powerful people seems weak just because Hagrid is seen as Dumbledore's unofficial bodyguard / errand boy and would've gained connections through Albus (as well as magical means to get from A to B). The rest of it seems plausible, except the Death Eaters didn't know there'd be 7 Harrys, or whom he be paired with, which they would have if Hagrid was an informant. Hagrid also cried over Harry's supposed death, which he'd have no reason to do if he'd been setting him up to fail for 7 years.

If Hagrid took the job as groundkeeper to keep an eye on Dumbledore for Voldy, why did Voldy order Snape to get the job teaching potions at Hogwarts to serve as Voldy's spy on Dumbledore? Wish I could buy this ... anything that keeps Snape where he belongs (in a lab brewing and far away from a classroom) is a good thing, IMO

Because he did not fully trust Snape. Meanwhile, Hagrid was Voldemort's ace. His trump card. The one person he trusted the most and the one whose existence was a carefully kept secret from everybody except a selected few. Ergo, he was sent there to spy on the spy.

A picture of someone who also had a picture in Dumbledore's office could have seen/heard Voldemort burst into the Potter cottage and kill James and Lilly, then report back to Dumbledore immediately. Dumbledore could have dispatched Hagrid as soon as the death's of the Potters occurred. Hagrid could have been stationed near Godric's Hollow for some other reason and was thus nearby.

And I am really intreaged now that it was Hagrid whom required Voldies wand at Godricks Hollow, Also arriving first before Sirius even though the fedelius charm had been cast.

Dumbledore secretly had the Elder Wand, the only wand known to be able to fix other wands. The movie doesn't show it, but Harry used it to repair his original wand before breaking it. So the theory is that Hagrid's wand was repaired by Dumbledore before he hid it inside Hagrid's umbrella. And once he was 17, the trace would end on him too. Since they broke his wand at 13, the Ministry wouldn't have thought to go back & find a legal reason to put the trace on him as an adult. They thought he couldn't learn wandless magic well enough to be a danger & thought he had no wand. But Dumbledore had Hagrid running all kinds of errands for him so Dumbledore had to be the one that made sure Hagrid could go places. He surely kept on teaching Hagrid in secret because he knew Hagrid was framed & too innocent to want to kill fellow students when he was so soft hearted towards animals most wizards avoided. It's also revealed wizards 17+ can apparate with someone underage & it doesn't trigger the trace since the underage wizard wasn't the one that cast the spell. Also, Dumbledore "rides" Fawkes. Also Hagrid has hippogrifs & thestrals handy to ride. They are quite strong if they can carry 3 regular wizards at a time, so surely they can carry 1 half-giant. Plus later we learn it's not a plot hole about who picked up Voldemort's wand. Snape arrived 1st!! He was already traxking Voldemort as far as he could & then the instant Lily diedfollowed by Dumbledore who no doubt called Hagrid to him. Maybe the deluminator can work long distance. Maybe he used Fawkes to bring him quickly. Maybe he used his patronus to deliver a message to Hagrid where to come & then Hagrid apparated Either way then Sirius arrived, loaned Hagrid his motorbike.

He used in front of the Dursleys, Petunia saw magic from Lily in the past and most likely told Vernon if he hadn’t seen it too but they both ALREADY knew magic exists, like in the BOOKS, they had taken Harry in and tried to “-squash the magic outta him.”

1. I'd attribute Hagrid's connections to Dumbledore, who saw Hagrid's innate talent of working with magical beasts, specifically an Acromantula, an infamously deadly creature. 2. I'd venture a guess that Dumbledore had more security measures around the Potters than the Fidelius Charm, so it could've been an OotP "strike force" of Sirius, Hagrid and maybe a couple unnamed characters going in for a "rescue mission", plus the Fidelius charm might be broken if the Secret Owner (not the Keeper) dies (not established in canon, just a speculation, also doesn't seem to hold well with Grimmauld's Place, or perhaps they even ran into Pettigrew?). 3. The flying part is strange I'll admit, but "instinctive" magic is an established thing and Hagrid was quite upset at that point (Harry used a similar spell against aunt Marge as a kid). 4. OK, but why not deliver the stone straight to Voldy after picking it up from Gringott's? 5. Voldy's wand...well the obvious answer would be Pettigrew - he was depicted as a coward, so wouldn't act against Harry on his own, but maybe he stashed the wand somewhere safe as a bargaining chip? He was the Secret Keeper after all. Maybe Voldy forced him to come with, in case he was lying, to enact some Deatheater justice. Also in the books the wand was used to murder Frank Bryce at the Riddle's mansion way before the TWT. But yeah, definitely an interesting theory to think about :)

One small issue with Hagrid giving Wormtail Voldemort's wand while the were setting up the third task, Voldemort used it in his exile when he killed Bertha Jorkins and the muggle caretaker before Harry's fourth year. Most of the points can be dismissed as Hagrid had help and Hagrid, despite being lovable, being a bit of an idiot. Hagrid, in Voldemort and many Death Eaters eyes, had nothing of value, he was expelled in his third year, had poor common sense when it came to beasts, Norbert and the Blast-Ended Skrewts. Hagrid was also, almost fanatically, loyal to Dumbledore. The only reason he gave Dudley a pigs tail, at least in the books, was because Vernon kept insulting Dumbledore. As for the reason why Voldemort didn't kill Hagrid during the Battle of Hogwarts, he was gloating, he knew Hagrid at school, he knew about Aragog and that he'd taken over Aragog's former nest. Hagrid was also half-giant, for all we know, the killing curse might not effect giants or Voldemort was just torturing Hagrid. Hagrid was hit by stray spells in the Battle of the Seven Potters, there's even a moment when Hagrid takes Harry out of the sidecar and puts himself between Harry and the Death Eaters.

I remember having my suspicions about Hagrid back when Chamber of Secrets came out. Its especially noticeable in the movie. When Harry leaves Borgin and Burkes and he bumps into Hagrid, Hagrid seems pretty shifty about his reasons for being in Knockturn Alley. Thankfully it all ended up being fine. I'm not sure I'd have recovered from that level of treachery.

Big hole with the “its dark that hagrid used transfiguration magic on harry’s childhood bully.” That wouldnt imply that he doesnt like muggles. That would imply that he doesnt like bullies, and not only that, but the entire wizarding world have joke shops and magical items that could either transfigure or cause some kind of non lethal harm. Would fred and george be considered haters of wizards for giving people candy and items that harmed or caused fear into them? No. They’re considered jokesters. I find it dark that harry was treated like vermin by his family morever than hagrid playing a little and giving dudley a pigs tail. It was fitting. This fan theory is spotty at best

I really love this theory as it adds an interesting perspective to the story, however, having read all the books and dived deep into Potter-lore myself, I have to poke some holes in this. Firstly, Hagrid is friends with a lot of people, both powerful and otherwise. His friendship with Aragog being the most notorious so I really dont think its odd that some of his friends happen to be powerful people. Hagrid is also older than Fudge and was likely already game keeper when Fudge attended Hogwarts so they probably met then especially since Hagrid has a habit of befriending everyone he meets including students. Not to mention that Hagrid was once accused of opening the Chamber of Secrets, and even though it was hushed up at the time, Fudge probably heard the full story when he started working at the ministry which would also have put Hagrid on his map. His closeness with Harry mainly boils down to the fact that Hagrid was friends of Harry's parents and was the one who rescued him as a baby so I think he just felt protective especially as Hagrid has a deeply caring nature. This is why I dont think Hagrid was being evil when he gave Dudley his pig tail. Hagrid lost his mother and father at a young age and was then expelled from Hogwarts, his only home. He did not have anyone to teach or guide him so I dont think he ever emotionally matured past a certain age, which is why he simply saw his attack on Dudley as more of a harmless prank, knowing it could be easily reversed magically, not fully appreciating how the Dursleys felt about magic. He was also not violating the Statute of Secrecy by performing magic infront of the Dursleys as they were already aware of magic and therefore it would not have been seen as an instance of 'exposure' which is what the law is about. Although he did kind of 'over step the boundary' when he gave Dudley his tail. Next, Id like to address how Hagrid got to Harry so quickly. This is purely my own theory: Dumbledore would have known (since the prediction was made to him) that both Harry and Neville were going to be a target of Volemort, so he obviously put up defenses but I also think its possible that he had someone from the Order keeping watch outside. Even if they couldnt see the Potter house they could still keep watch - Reference: The Deathly Hallows when Death Eaters are keeping watch outside Grimmauld Place despite not being able to actually see it. Perhaps Hagrid was on guard duty at the time. We know the Fidelius Charm broke when Volemorts curse backfired because Siris was able to find the cottage immediately after, so thats probably why Hagrid was first on the scene. In the end I dont think Hagrid was a Death Eater any more than Ron or Dumbledor were, its clear thats not what J.K.Rowling intended. But its been a fun idea to investigate! Thanks to everyone who read my essay :D

The choice of punishment was a bit suspect, especially with the fact that Hagrid himself left Harry's side knowing the dangers that lurked in the Forest. This showed that Hagrid intentionally left Harry to the dark forces without adequate protection. It is also strange why Hagrid's life was spared and never really engaged in battle.

No way. The only use for this theory is that we can always find motives to mistrust people even when they are highly trustful. I think J. K. Used him as a key for Harry's victory and Harry's life because she wanted to show power coming from humble ones. Power which comes from moral values is much stronger than that which comes from abilities.

I thought that once the explosion happened the Fidelius Charm broke thus allowing Dumbledore to tell Hagrid where to go. A little addition to this is the fact that Harry was made believe that Tom Riddle threatened Hagrid in the vision conjured by his journal, and that Hagrid was later framed for opening the chamber. I believe that this very scene was a faux memory, placed there by Voldemort on purpose, to make Harry believe Hagrid was innocent and not at all in bounds with Voldemort.

Here are some of my humble thoughts on the topic: First to keep in mind, the series was meant for kids, especially the first couple books. I think some of these points are just "plotholes" or stuff that just doesnt matter in a kids tale, I dont see why the author should have made hagrid a bad guy on purpose. Hes just supposed to be the friendly kind hearted side character, who has some flaws but is a true soul. Apart from that, to the point of him knowing lots of magic, I think dumbledore just repaired his wand, which is now hidden in his pink umbrella and Hagrid either practised on his own, or learned something from dumbledore. But we dont see any extrodinary magic from him, lots of spells fail, like turning dudley into a pig, althouh you could say that it was on purpose when he cut of the wagon in the battles of the seven potters. Theres just that he "flew" to the island where the dursleys where hiding to get harry, I think that is just an error from the author, I dont think the whole narrative was in place at the time where she wrot this, he could have just used a boat from somewhere and turned up the same way they left. Another point which I hold against the theory is, that noone of the former death eaters seems to recognise hagrid or treat him well, like malfoy trying to kill buckbeak, why would he do that to an old friend. This suggests that the death eaters all didnt know of hagrid. Apart from wormtail like the theory says??? Why would that be? And so the point with the death eaters not killing hagrid on sight makes no sense either, for that they needed to know that he was on their side. You could say that hagrid just played his role perfectly but damn thats unrealistic, somebody had got to notice if he was this gifted, at least when he went to school. And I also dont think he could have hidden a dark mark all those years, like would he never lift his shirt on one of his arms, somebody got to notice that. Or especially in the later books, thats kind of a flaw in the books too, but shouldnt it be the first thing to do when you meet someone, to just go "hey man just show me your left arm pls" And see if hes a death eater or not. Of course he could have been a servant that didnt wear the dark mark, which would make sense, as he is rather like greyback, voldemort hates half breed. So why ally with him then, or even train him. Lol I wrote alot, I dont know if anyone wil even read all this, anyways I had fun writing it, have a nice day if you actually got this far

I think it could be opposite, Hagrid was frighting against the Voldemort and Death Eaters, as when Sirius Black and Professor Lupin met under Shrieking Shack (if remember correctly Peter Pettigrew had a wand in the film), plus rats are clever creatures and Peter Pettigrew could have taken and hid Lord Voldemort. Hagrid sae what did and said to Professor Dumbledore and Ministry of Magic will be spy for them to help to catch the Death Eaters and Voldemort, when he was expelled* so Dumbledore help Hagrid to complete his study at Hogwarts in secret. Plus we don’t if Hagrid was train and license Animagus by Ministry of Magic. As in Chamber of Secrets Tom Riddle (Voldemort) said when he met Harry Potter inside the chamber of secrets said ‘Professor Dumbledore did not trust him and was being watched by him’ that why he got Hagrid blamed of crime. Which leads me to this point you saw all though the films Hagrid was animal lover, so why would he kept a spider who was scared of snakes as pet if Hagrid was one Voldemort followers, it doesn’t make sense.

This would have been an incredible twist, essentially being a foil to snape. The friendliest, most wholesome character who was more consistent than the other wholesome character for harry, dumbledore, wrestles with his beliefs and wants as he carries out Voldemort's grander plan, showing that even good people can fall to evil if given the right motivations/manipulations. He would have been working for voldemort for decades, and felt that, despite how much he genuinely loved harry, he had done too much by this point to stop. His loyalty is obvious, maybe his first ever friend was voldemort, and he couldnt help but be loyal to one of the few to believe in him. He could have become disillusioned with Dumbledore, seeing how he was raising harry as a pig for slaughter, and sort of had an anakin moment - realising even the good guys werent the pinnacle of goodness as once thought. Ultimately its probably for the best that this is just a cope for rowling plot holes, but still, it could have been a very interesting part of HP.

"Yes, Hagrid and Tom met at Hogwarts, where they became great friends, although Tom was a narcissist who manipulated Hagrid to serve him for his own benefit. When they met and spoke in secrecy at Hogwarts, they formed a close bond. Their common impure backgrounds led them down the rabbit hole of explaining their hatred for anything but pure wizards and witches. It makes sense as Hagrid would suffer all his life due to having a giant-race mother; it was obvious he would be looked at, mocked, and generally made to live as an outcast. Tom, an orphan because his mother fell in love with a man who didn't love her, also experienced difficulties. All the other details mentioned in the video also make sense. Hagrid was Lord Voldemort's most trusted ally; no one but them knew anything about it. Tom would convince Hagrid that he should take the fall for the Chamber of Secrets because he (Tom) was more talented of the two. Then, he promised to teach Hagrid to be a great wizard. Tom kept his promise, creating an unbreakable bond between them that would never be broken."

'There was a fresh outbreak of laughter, and after a few moment Harry felt the ground trembling beneath him. “You carry him,” Voldemort said, “He will be nice and visible in your arms, will he not? Pick up your little friend, Hagrid. And the glasses-put on the glasses-he must be recognizable-” Someone slammed Harry’s glasses onto his face with deliberate force, but the enormous hands that lifted him into the air were exceedingly gentle. Harry could feel Hagrid’s arms trembling with the force of his heaving sobs; great tears splashed down upon him as Hagrid cradled Harry in his arms.' This by far the most far fetched and ridiculous fan theory out there. Interesting but not plausible at all. Hagrid has been shown throughout the series to show his disdain for Voldemort and anyone who associates with them and his loyalty to Dumbledore shows it. Dumbledore was the only one who actively stood up for him and believed him when he had been accused of opening the chamber of secrets which for a thirteen year old half giant who was probably well aware of how different he was compared to the other students and might have been subjected to bullying having someone on his side that not only stood up for him but ensure that he would be taken care of by means of convincing Armando Dippett to allow Hagrid to stay and train as the Hogwarts Grounds Keeper, ensuring that while he may not have been able to progress in the way his peer group had been he would still be able to have a profession within the wizarding world. I'll add that in my personal belief I don't think anyone truly believed Hagrid was guilty however due to affinity for large and dangerous beasts and being in possession of an acromantula it was more convenient to let Hagrid take the blame and close the investigation quickly, anyone who would have examined Myrtle Warren's body would have seen that she had not be killed by Aragog, as acromantula bites leave a mark.

I wonder why Hagrid did not catch up on the remaining years of magical learning he lost after he was proven innocent of opening the Chamber of Secrets 3 days after Harry and Ron returned to Dumbledore's office with Ginny Weasley and an Obliviated Gilderoy Lockhart? Was he not vindicated for both accounts of the Secret chamber monster attacks? If so then why wasn't he off the hook for the first account as well as he was for the second account after the Lockhart mishap? I mean Hagrid was not the only third year to accomplish magic well out side the basics of his respective year; The Marauders used advanced magic beyond their years when 'they' were 13 years old, and so did Harry Potter and lets not forget that Hermione Granger was the youngest witch at age 12 1/2 to brew what was meant to be a Sixth/seventh year N.E.W.T.S. potion and she was only in her second year when she did it. So why should Hagrid be that much different for an accomplished 3rd year. Considering all this evidence I lay out means that this "Hagrid the Death Eater informant" theory is just a great big "Leaky Cauldron". It could be that Dumbledore might have secretly tutored Hagrid whenever he could, it would be of no surprise if Newt Scamander dropped in to visit Hagrid and helped with the tutoring in 4th year magic at some sort of opportune times. It was Dumbledore's decision for the first year detention to be in the location of the Forbidden forest, not Hagrid. Hagrid is not notable to have a bias against muggles, he just doesn't like disagreeable slighters, such as the Dursleys and the Malfoys, because they are both overly entitled about their opposing blood status and their position in their respective societies that happen to be within the same continental space or has anyone forgotten how rude Vernon Dursley was towards Hagrid. Hagrid was not in charge of the maze and he had no affiliation with Wormtail, as he was the game Keeper when the Marauders attended at Hogwarts and didn't have as much time to spend hanging out with old friends especially since he was made a Care of Magical creatures professor prior to the events of Harry's second year; Wormtail found Voldemort's wand some time after Ron's 3rd year, Hagrid's only part in the Maze setup was stationing magical creatures at each check point area of the maze. Barty Jr. helped Professor Sprout grow the Maze, and it was Barty Jr. who tampered with the Triwizard Cup and was the only one who knows where he placed it (as Stated by Dumbledore himself). This theory is getting more and more ridiculous as I am listening to this; it was well established in the books that most spells bounce off Hagrid because he is a Half Giant and Giant blood in the Wonderous World of Magic universe is immune or highly resistant to most magical attacks. Nothing about Hagrid actually proves Death Eater status at all.🙄😵‍💫🤨😖😣😔😮‍💨🧐😶‍🌫

To use a muggle example, if the building under the charm is the Empire State Building, I cannot tell you that, but can I tell you its in Manhattan? New York? East Coast? USA? Earth? Dumbledore could have told him to get in the vicinity of Godrics Hollow, when he realised something bad was about to go down.

See, the issue I have with Hagrid is in his 3rd year when Tom blamed him for killing Moaning Myrtle. WHY DID THEY KNOW EACHOTHER?? Hagrid speaks to Tom as though they have spoken before, also Tom (a 5th year, blood supremacist, Slytherin prefect) knew Hagrid by name. Also Hagrid was hiding Aragog in the dungeons of hogwarts. How in the hell did a half-giant sneak through the castle to the dungeons at night without getting caught by the prefects, unless he was in Slytherin and was already in the dungeons to begin with. Hagrid had to have been in Slytherin for Tom to know him and to be able to go to his nightly feedings of Aragog

If Hagrid learnt advanced magic after he was expelled, it wasn't from the deatheaters but rather from Dumbledore who knew that Hagrid had been framed by Tom Riddle. This is why Hagrid was in possession of his wand, which Dumbledore had repaired with the Elder wand.

Interesting theory, although there is one simple fact that completely debunks it. When Hagrid first brought Harry to the Dursleys that night his parents were killed. They were alone during that trip BEFORE reaching 4 Privet Drive in Little Whinging and Harry was a vulnerable and unprotected baby at the time, with no one else around. He could have easily killed him by non-magical means (stabbed, drowned, shot, poisoned etc.) and vanished without a trace if he were that skilled in the magical arts. His task as a death eater in serving Voldemort would have been quick and clean.

Hagrid flying to the island. He must have flown some ways other than on his own. Because if you remember, he took Harry with him when he left the island. They never showed/explained this. Again while not explained. While true Hagrid was forbidden from preforming magic. He had learned a bit while at school. And Dumbledore totally trusted him. Also Dumbledore was capable of many things while at hogwarts that other weren’t. One of which was aperating. It’s not hard to think that he was able to further educate Hagrid in a great many things without the ministry ever knowing about it. As to getting Harry off the island. Serious loaned Hagrid his bike, you know the one with the side car that Hagrid used to deliver Harry to Professor Magonagle and headmaster Dumbledore at 4 Private Drive. Which was also used when the Seven Harry’s event happened. Yah. He used the magicified muggle thing. Probably buried information and the ministry of magic thanks to Mr Whesly. Broken wand. Harry repaired his broken wand with the Elder Wand. Who else was master of the Elder wand who also trusted Hagred with his life. Who may have repaired Hagrids wand. The four kids being in the dark forest was punishment from Magonigal for the four of them being out after hour. Not something Hagrid pulled out of his backside. WOW! This theory reaches farther than the moon on why and how Hagrid was a death eater than about anything ridiculous I’ve seen. But continue. Voldemort wand. What marauder who helped resurrect Voldemort, to physical form who almost definitely was using Voldemort wand to accomplish this act, could have possibly picked up Voldemort wand at the time Voldemort tried to kill Harry Potter on that faithful night. And succeeded in killing Harry’s mother, Lily Potter at that time. Just because Pedigru never used Voldemort wand in that time, doesn’t mean he didn’t know where it was. I’m not saying I’m correct here, at the same time this bogus theory is REALLY reaching to call Hagrid a traitor. And with that. The mental gymnastics that went in to this whole exercise was comical. I loved the whole HP thing until some elements were brought out after the movies were over, and many of the actors turned out to be less than desirable examples of human beings. But as the story goes. This theory does nothing but trash an honorable character in the story.

No mention of Hagrid telling Harry "There's not a single witch or wizard who went bad who wasn't in Slytherin."??? That statement skewed Harry's entire view of the wizarding world.

I’m not buying this one. It’s not even clear to me that Hagrid realized Voldy was his old classmate Riddle. There was a big time gap before Voldy made his appearance in the world.

Except you forget that Snape was the first to arrive on scene, he notified DD and that’s how Hagrid got there so fast.

No, I think the majority of the theory is due to plot holes. We've seen him travel many times but none have been on the Hogwarts Express. This includes not only his trip to get Harry on the island but also the two of them getting to Diagon Alley for Harry's stuff AND during Harry's 2nd year when he meets Harry in Knockturn Alley. I'm more inclined to think that Rowling just didn't mention how Hagrid got around. As for the Fidelias Charm, despite Hagrid traveling by an unknown means, once the Potters were dead, the charm was lifted, allowing any wizard or witch to see the house. Rowling points this out in Deathly Hallows when Harry and Hermione visit.

There was also a mistake, in the theory you stated that during the battle of 7 potters Hagrid, who was with the real Harry, did not get hit by any spells, while in the books he actually did get hit and Harry has to take control as Hagrid is knocked unconscious.

Just to point out a plot hole in the theory… I always presumed Pettigrew kept Voldemort’s wand. Maybe, not to help him later as he wasn’t even sure if the dark Lord would return but perhaps to attempt to be more powerful as he was weak. But Prior Incantatum would have shown if he had tried to use it. So perhaps he thought by holding on to such a “relic” he would one: gain power from it. (He didn’t.) two: he could sell it or bargain it to a Death Eater. Three: in the event that Voldemort did return he could present it to him. As he does in the film when Voldemort says”my wand” and Peter hands it over suggesting he had it all along. Pathetic Pettigrew always leaching off the success of others and always staying on the side he thought most powerful he may have thought he’d gain favor with the Dark Lord. He very well could have hidden it; even in that very graveyard. That’s high speculation that he hid it there but he certainly could have hidden it before transfiguring himself into a rat for the next several years.

I clicked on this video for a laugh, but it's scary how much sense this made.
