Well accounting for everything there are only two options, both of which I am extremely happy about. 1. Hagrid is in fact secretly a millionaire 2. Hagrid spends all his money buying random, in many cases very dangerous magical beasts.

Duncan Caldwell I find Harry enjoyable as well because it’s a nice contrast. I was more or referring to people like the Malfoys. I enjoy Harry’s wealth because it’s a happy and good contrast to his horrible upbringing and absence of parents. That’s a good point though!

Ella this and the multiple occasions makes me wonder. Cards could be the only time he actually has a pokerface. I think he's just too trusting of all living creatures, humans and animals alike. Bill was also able to access Harry's vault in 'Half-Blood Prince' to bypass the new security that the goblins had put in place, and while he did work for Gringots, there was new security that the goblins had put in place.

I feel like one, Dumbledore sent a warning in advance to Gringots and it hadn’t been robbed yet! And the Beletrex Lestrange situation, that was after the robbery and when there was a huge warning that the vault should be extra protected! That’s my best guess on that!

I think the flute is more significant than anyone realizes. It's basically a confirmation that hagrid actually does know the big plan and fully intended on Harry getting past fluffy. Accidentally tells him how and gives him a way to accomplish it.... I think he knew everything except for the part where Harry had to die.

I do not agree to most conclusion in this video, let me break down why: First of all I think the credibility at Gringotts: The identity of a half-giant cannot be stolen via Polyjuice potion as it can only be used for humans, so it is always clear that he is himself. Then he has probably been doing trips for Dumbledore for decades so he is probably a well known figure at Gringotts. Also the aditional identity proof of showing the wand when Hermione impersonated Bellatrix was only put in place as a trap, because it was known that the wand was stolen. And lastly with the whole goblin rebellion thing, the general trust of a goblin towards a half giant is probably greater than to any wizard, except maybe Dumbledore who gives Hagrid authority through the letter, so even if Hagrid had no money at all, the first Gringotts scene would be quite normal. So what does Hagrid spend all his money for, if he's not hoarding it? Booze and gambling. He is a well known regular in the Three broomsticks, the Leaky Cauldron (where he has a "regular" order) and the Hog's Head, where he likes to gamble. Considering how much alcohol he would need to get regularly drunk at his size this is easily expensive enough to dry out all of his salary

There's that, but I'm guessing he probably does regular transactions for Hogwarts as well, so he has regular contact with them (aside from being wealthy from saving up most of his salary-I don't think he's quite as rich as alluded to here, but it does add up). Although Bellatrix's vault may not be a fair support, as they probably have additional security surrounding it (highest available, is my guess), due to the circumstances. Whence the additional checks.

Well, lupin actually said to Hagrid that since he’s a half-giant, polyjuice potion doesn’t work on him since he isn’t a complete human. (In case anyone needs a refresher, polyjuice potion only works on humans. Hermione accidentally got a cat hair in her’s and she turned into a part human cat hybrid). What I’m actually saying is that it is impossible to transform into Hagrid unless you transfigure yourself into him and no one has done that(and don’t start on the cursed child I don’t consider it cannon).

Consider also that Hagrid has access to unicorns, if the number of hair on an unicorn’s tail are the same has an horse, which is 1M+, and that each hair is 10 galleons, if sells them he could have a wealth in tens of millions of galleons

Since a galleon is roughly 5 pounds apparently Also weird that Harry's wand was only 7 galleons, Ollivander probably gave him a discount lol. Or maybe unicorns went up in rarity so it was inflated when Slughorn mentioned it. Moldy Voldy killed too many unicorns during that time :/ Cause it'd be hard to imagine a phoenix tail feather would be cheaper than unicorn tail hair.

@@hicat808 could be olivander gets unicorn hairs in bulk, and this at a discount. Also, wands choose the wizard. The value of wands is probably damaged because nobody is able to buy the phoenix wand(we can guess Harry's wand was in the shop for 50 years if it's Voldemort wand's twin). 7 galleons or no galleons seems to be the only option.

And I have no idea how much a galleon's purchasing power would convert to our currencies but since they're made of gold I always though they were worth hundred of dollars a piece (in relative civilization purchasing power,) not like 5 bucks.

I kinda feel like Hagrid respects creatures too much to profit off them. For example, when Slugghorn attends Aragog's funeral, he depicted as *sneakily* acquiring the venom, implying he knew Hagrid wouldn't be pleased. (Course "Swagrid" might not be pleased at having his profit margin swiped...but I stand by my initial feeling)

@@montyswift5661 Hagrid regularly drinks in Hogsmeade. He has a problem with drinking, really. Also, one of the main argument in the video is that he may earn little but over time thar piled up. Well, drinking may have been how he spent most of his earnings. Sure, I don't think he's dirt poor. I just think he's not that rich either.

The reason why Harry had to use the imperius curse on the goblins and why they asked for further proof it was actually Bellatrix is because they were told BY Bellatrix herself earlier that someone might try to break into the vault. They were already on high alert, so they had to make extra sure, and then when Hermione/Bellatrix starts acting shifty they know something's up, Griphook lets Harry know, and he does the imperius curse. They weren't on high alert when Hagrid walked in, presumably no one had tried to steal from Gringotts in recent memory so I doubt they needed much other than the key (which probably has an enchantment on it, kinda like the anti-cheat quills) and seeing Harry. Which btw, just because he was gone for 13 years doesn't mean the goblins wouldn't know what he looks like. Harry gets approached all the time by random people who bow to him or shake his hand. The description of him is probably widely known.

Three theories here: 1) Dumbledore is already wealthy, and supports him financially. After Dumbledore dies, Hagrid inherits his wealth. This would explain why Hagrid Trust's Dumbledore. Never turn on the one who supports you. 2) Hagrid is actually good with numbers and has already exploited the British Pound to Wizarding Currancy Exchange and made millions. 3) Hagrid having access to the philosophers stone for decades secretly converts then general trash of the school into gold. He then takes it to a gold/silver buyer who pays him in British Pounds and he then converts that into Wizarding Money.

Here's the thing about the vault thing, the reason the security was tighter when the trio tried to steal from bellatrix's vault was because bellatrix already informed the goblins in the bank to do so cuz she thought that the sword of gryffindor was stolen from her vault. The dark side has control on most establishments like gringots. Back when harry was getting his money, all they need was the key cuz the security wasnt as tight.

I don't think Hagrid is SUPER rich but I do think he has quite a bit. Slughorn earns quite a lot of money from being a potions teacher as we know and Hagrid has been groundskeeper for around the same amount of time. He probably earned less then Slughorn because he was not a teacher but he probably did earn some money so he had lots of spare money.

I think Slughorn was probably correct about the value of unicorn hair. A lot had changed in the wizarding world between Harry's first and sixth year. How many unicorns did Voldemort kill to survive? It's very possible unicorns had become even more of a rarity by then.

Honestly, I feel like this must be the case for nearly all of the veteran staff at Hogwarts. They are all described as having worked and lived at Hogwarts for decades, so we know that they don't have to pay rent or for food for at least 9 months out of the year. Yes, Snape is shown to have a house on Spinner's End where he lives in the summertime, but I always got the impression that this was leftover from his parents. Even if it isn't, it suggests that he could afford to buy a house, not just rent one-- even a house that he will only use 3 months out of the year (if that).

@@magicamadeye but also consoder when Harry visited Gringott's with the Weasleys there were only a few small piles of knuts and sickles and a SINGLE galleon, I don't doubt that wands vary in price based on length, wand wood and core so let's say the average price of a wand is 7 galleons the weasley family is looking pretty rough when you consider they had to plan to purchase 5 sets of Lockhart books on top of a cauldron, scales, all the children would likely require new robes amd a wand for Ginny, which even if they buy all of that used would still be pretty expensive. The one saving grace is I'm sure that the school books that don't change every year would likely be passed down from their older children down to the ones still in school. Unless the Weasleys were able to get some of the Hogwarts fund for poorer family (the only time this fund was ever mentioned was when Dumbledore first met Voldemort and was preparing him to go to Diagon Alley)

olivander doesn't buy unicorn hair, he harvests it himself. he tells cederic that he almost got skewered by the unicorn he got the hair for cederics wand from so he is clearly able track down unicorns for himself (in fact olivander might be one of the best at it) and therefore doesn't buy over prised unicorn hair from a middle man, allowing him to keep his prises low.

Also keep in mind that olivander is missing, so wandmakers are in a short supply. They are in a war, so resources are at record prices. Slughorn mentions that dragonblood prices are skyrocketing at the beginning of half blood price. Chances are the original prices or unicorn hair are not the same at the beginning of the series as they are when Slughorn boasts 10 gallons a hair.

The diary was destroyed before a proper investigation. All they have is Harry's word that Hagrid was proven innocent, and we all know that his word isn't worth anything to the political and media establishments considering what happens when he tells everyone Voldemort returned. Also, Hagrid probably did receive a full magical education, in secret from Dumbledore. I'm sure Carlin Bros did a video explaining the theory, but the crux of it hangs on the fact that we see him perform advanced magic multiple times that would've been impossible for someone with only 3 years at Hogwarts.

In the 7th book, after Malfoy Manor, Gringotts was specifically looking for impostors so it makes sense they would require more proof of ID especially since Bellatrix's wand was stolen. Harry had to do the Imperius curse so the goblin wouldn't react to the stolen wand. It would have been a dead give away that Hermione wasn't Bellatrix if she showed up with a wand that was known to have been stolen from its original owner.

On the spelling Voldemort issue... I never once thought Hagrid could literally not spell it. I always thought he meant can't in the same sense that most people "can't" say the name. Spelling something that fills people with that much fear may be more difficult emotionally than saying it outright.

actually there is a reason as to why olivander can sell wands for cheaper than that. when olivander is inspecting the wands used by the school champions in the fourth book he remarks that the unicorn that produced the hair in cederics wand almost killed him, implying that olivander actually goes out and harvests unicorn hair for himself instead of buying it, which makes sense since i assume not just any hair will do, so it takes a wand maker to know the useable from the unusable hairs (for the context of wand making at least), also if they're that expensive, this would be another reason to get them himself.

Considering that an adult unicorn seems roughly the same size as a horse of 16-17 hands at the withers if not taller, an adult unicorn's hair would on average be around half a meter in length for the mane and a full meter for the tail. As such, it is highly likely that a single hair can be used in multiple wands.

Perhaps it was Harry's parents vault originally, with a reasonable but not huge amount of money in. And Hagrid could've been significantly adding to that pile over the years. He might've had a motivation to do this due to kindness that James, or more likely Lilly, showed to him when they were at Hogwarts and he was the Groundskeeper. And especially as Hagrid might feel that with his lifestyle, he doesn't really need or want much money.

Considering the different creatures he acquires and tends to, I’m sure that would be quite costly. I could see him being very wealthy while still living his modest lifestyle provided by Dumbledore and Hogwarts, and really only spending his money on his pets and friends since that’s what he really cares about. the reason that wands cost 7 galleons and unicorn hairs cost 10 galleons a hair is because the wand maker (or at least ollivander does) picks their own unicorn hairs they dont buy them.

Or mabe a wand dose not need the full length of hair, mabe 2 or 3 wands can be made from a single strand of hair, wands do come in custom lengths after all harrys wand was made with pheonix tail feather.

It could also be that he could buy them in bulk and it's way cheaper that way, though if I remember the wording of how Ollivander gets the materials, he asks most magical beasts for their hair and feathers. Only dragon heartstrings might be the ones he has to pay for unless he gets them for free from a dragon trader

@@owenjames8575 the question is why are they rare. even if the phoenix is rare, their life cycle are relatively infinite. couldn't you, assuming you have the consent of the phoenix, just harvest most of them before it turns to ash?

I think that not only is Hagrid rich for the reasons you mentioned, but I think he may also make a lot of money from gambling. Think about it, when Harry asked him how he got a dragon egg (Norbert) in the first book, Hagrid says that he won it at the pub, which implies gambling, and which also implies he's good, so if he wins a lot, he's probably making some pretty sweet coins.
