I have this same bike for the past three months. It makes all the trails I usually do twice as fun. The up hill is just as fun as the down hill and it allows me to ride twice as far in the same amount of time. I haven't rode my regular bike since.
Surfdocsteve I agree, modern day eBikes like this Haibike are an absolute blast. Respond back if you made any changes to yours. I may try a longer stem and a wider front tire. Enjoy your awesome bike.

Awesome review John! How do you dial in the Auto feature on the EI interface? I see you do not have the same graphic interface that I have seen on the Lapierre bikes for the suspension. Thanks!
Great review! I'm a long time off-road motorcycle rider and once I discovered emtbs I haven't rode my 450 Beta since! Started with the Haibike Xduro FS, and recently bought a Bulls with the Brose motor. Really love them and it has opened up and whole new wonderful and quiet world!

And I'm like you, it's almost like we found a secret that a lot of our peers in motorsports haven't figured out yet.... transporting the bike is simple and cheap, no loud pipes, maintenance is a joke compared to a dirtbike or ATV and endless and epic ride spots everywhere!
Yes! I've lived in my current neighborhood for nearly 20 years and lately I've been regularly finding "undiscovered" riding places, whereas with the MC I would have to load up and drive out somewhere, unload, put the "exo-skeleton" on, etc. Emtbs are freedom. The extreme low maintenance is wonderful. I discovered that with our Tesla Model S. Tires and windshield wiper blades & fluid are the only things to maintain.
Great review John!. Nice to have a real world opinion.Old desert rider here. Used to ride Mt. bikes too. I'm 65 now and am missing riding. Doc says I need to get out and exercise more so I thought why not bikes again.....got some heath issues so I'm looking at the 2017 model of this bike. My question is I'll be spending some time on the bike path here in So.Ca.and don't want to appear to be a poser. I really want the capability to ride this bike anywhere especially exploring some of the fire roads in the east sierra and desert. I have no delusions of getting back into aggressive trail riding but want a bike I can enjoy anywhere. In your opinion is this a good a bike for what I want or maybe too much?
Thanks for writing Mike. I think I know what you're saying, -- is it overkill for someone that isn't going to push the bike as hard as it is capable of being pushed... I like fast cars but I'll never buy a high end sports car, I follow you, but I think this might be a little different. Paying a little more for a well-made eMTB is probably money well spent. Buying the wrong bike can end up being much more expensive than biting the bullet and paying up for one good one, not two mediocre ones because the first one let you down. I will say I have about 1000 miles on this Haibike. Probably 90% of its mileage are hard miles. It has been everything I said in this video and more. If the cost is the issue that's holding you back you might search for a used one (and no mine isn't for sale, I love it too much to even consider it). Good luck and since you rode one I'm going to go ahead and welcome to the E Bike Scene, since most people that test one end up buying one.

Is it possible to ride this bike without peddling?? I have an intermittent leg problem due to a leg which is held together by titanium. On good days, I'd be able to peddle without assistance. On bad days, i want something that can transport me without me needing to peddle.
ATV Scene Thank you for your reply. Do you know of any bikes that might suit my needs - pretty much the two extremes: peddling only, self-powered only along with assistance when needed?
Um...your intro at 1:31 shows someone riding across pristine wetlands off the trail. There is no better way to alienate non-bikers and non ATV riders than to leave a distinct track across the marsh. We learned this the hard way in the 70's and have been losing riding areas ever since. I hike, bike, ATV, and race the desert and my hiking buddies were not amused so I thought I would mention it. Maybe it was private property yet...
