HAIL STORM, Strong WINDS & HEAVY RAIN - A Testing Wild Camp in the Hilleberg Soulo Black Label
In this video, I head out in some challenging and unexpectedly wintry weather conditions for a wild camp in the Hilleberg Soulo Black Label. With strong winds, heavy rain and hail storms, this made for a challenging and very enjoyable camp.
I climbed to a stunning spot, overlooking the dramatic mountains of the Lake District National Park and pitched the tent in some heavy rain and hail showers. Once the tent was pitched, I was able to take shelter and enjoy some fine craft beer and an evening meal of pasta bolognese.
As the light faded, the skies cleared and the temperatures plummeted. The wind chill was as low as minus two and the stars and milky way made for some dramatic night time viewing.
The next morning, I was treated to a stunning sunrise as I enjoyed a morning coffee and struck camp, ensuring no trace was left.
The tent performed very well and I look forward to some more challenging camps in the Black Label Soulo.

The pass was still closed last Tuesday as well. May not have gone on Red Screes but both pitches you visited looked dam fine to me - amazing views. That rain sounded brutal while it lasted and I have given up on the Mountain forecast as a way to gauge the weather in the lakes. Sunrise in the lakes - it does not get much better, cheers Alan

Very atmospheric this one Chris, a real nice spot mate. I seem to recall they were closing Kirkstone Pass for a second time when I was up there last in the van. You had some weather too in this one, rain and hail! Winter is coming pal! Loved it!

That was a tester Chris and no waterproof jacket !!!!! loved the Autumn atmosphere you captured and as always this time of year the colours are stunning and picked out lovely spot eventually I have a NAMMATJ 3 GT bomb proof shelter for this country BUT consider its only 1 door and you need to get lucky to pitching in the wind direction or your in for a disturbed night same as any tunnel tent and also its on the heavy side especially after a wet strike be interested in your thoughts

The lake District is the most magical area of the UK. Steeped in history and breathtaking views with mountains all around. I felt I was in another country than the UK when I stayed there over a week. It really soothed the soul to get back to nature. Something very special about seeing the mist rolling off the mountains into the lakes. Will not forget my time there

Great video Chris. Tent looks solid and its a great feeling to be in a tent when its lashing down outside with a wind chill.That stove is deffo a lot quieter than a jetboil or similar and makes for a tranquil camp.Might have to get one of those for future camps. Super camera work fella but i was a bit worried about your rucksack outside and glad i saw it in the porch later on. Great camp Chris and tha ks for sharing your adventure with us inspiring people to get out there a chillax but also respecting our great outdoors. Looks like a good substitute camp from the wonderful Red Screes intended camp. Atb Chris. Take it easy pal.

Great spot Chris! A nice mix of conditions on this camp. At least you got to see some views as well. G1000 is definitely as absolutely incredible material. I didn’t have the wind on my last camp to dry out my trousers but my body heat alone had them dry by the time I went to bed. Just fantastic stuff! Thanks for the Sunday afternoon entertainment. Hi. Lovely views there. I see you had some sort of Base on which you rested your alcohol stove. What was that? I've just bought my first alcohol stove ( Alpkit Bruler) and although it has some inbuilt folding mini legs, I'm wondering if I need some sort of a base to go underneath the burner. Do they typically spew out lot of heat and you need to be careful about where you place it, ie, not on a footprint in the vestibule? Regards , Wadi

Alright mate - you don't need the base with the bruler. The feet lift it amply so that's fine. It's just like a meths burner isn't it. This base was kindly gifted to me by a sub, it's a trekkers little helper by Hultafors 👍

Hope you don’t have to wait too long before you can afford the Hilleberg Nammatj Chris.Really looking forward to your future content with that tent.I have the GT version used mainly to hold my motorbike kit with the huge porch area.Expensive yes,but I don’t think I’d buy any other brand now.

Hi Chris, nice spot. I had high hopes to see another video of Scarp 1 Ultra, but it seems that you don't have it anymore. What were the cons of that tent?

The tent was sent to me to use by TarpTent but I had to send it one when I'd finished with it..... My mate Dan (Wild Camping Life.UK) on Instagram has it now. Cons are probably the pack size (unable to compress due to carbon corner poles), the fabric whilst strong, is succeptible to punctures so you need to take care, finally - the colour. For me, the standard Scarp is more than enough tent. Thanks for watching mate

you can get fjallraven wax for the G1000 fabric. makes it more waterproof and warmer. worth a punt.

A very nice video as always, and as a Norseman who really enjoys these videos, the change of scenery from the grassy peaks that is so prevalent from British youtubers, was a refreshing change. Don´t get me wrong, I love me a mountain camp video. The views and colours are often stunning, but it is always very nice to watch something new, especially now with those wonderful fall colours So thanks for bringing us along

Thanks mate, I have the various proofing things, but I leave the cotton anoraks pretty much as is so they remain as breathable as possible. I've heavily waxed some Fjallräven gear and it's not much different to be fair.
