Hi, I'm Chris - I have almost 30 years experience of wild camping, hiking and scrambling throughout the UK and beyond. I'm passionate about the great outdoors and all the benefits it has to offer, especially for your physical and mental health. I try to capture the atmosphere, solitude and beauty of the mountains, fells and wild places of the UK through my videos. I also enjoy reviewing and testing tents and outdoor equipment, along with providing tips and advice to beginners.
If you love being in the Great Outdoors and wish to escape the stresses and strains of everyday life, or simply want to get started in wild camping and are looking for tips and advice, then my channel is definitely for you. Come and join me in the hills, mountains and outdoor places of the UK and enjoy some outdoors escapism.
Never used one mate - to be fair, I never would. Mats do the job for me. I'd also be worried about piercing the groundsheet on the rock ground with the weight concentrated around the feet - maybe if I was camping in a lavvu / tipi style shelter with no floor, but never a tent - at least for me anyway.
Yeah, you're right. That footprint was designed for another tent and it was that or nothing. I've now purchased the correct footprint which does not protrude out.
Im a MTB purist since the early 90s(and you dont want anything less than a 26er off road)...its a glorified shopper, and the small wheels.tight fitting mudguards and semi intermediate off road-tyres only spell death off road in anything but dry conditions on man made trails(and thats before u load it up with panniers and camping kit).................... sorry chris these bikes are my new pet hate lol.... ATB u know no hard feelings meant
Haha - you go for it mate! This is the favourite of all these types of bikes I've tried. Never in a million years is it a true off roader, definitely a utility bike which is what it's marketed as 👍
We've had the odd dry day or two, but yes. Awful. Nice little bike to carry enough outdoor supplies for an overnighter. Will work one it at some point.
I like it. It’s good with the basket and bags on the back. They’re getting good exposure now. People who aren’t so mobile anymore can really get back out with these. Yes definitely like that model Send gilded cresty wings 🪽
Yeah, just a shame our rules are so restrictive - much more freedom in the US. Maybe things will catch up. This is a great adventure bike if you have the places to use it. Send everything.
@@FENCYCLIST they make sense - we have strict laws in the UK, but if you have acess to some private land you can use some more powerful versions. Still plenty of options in the 250w arena also.
@@MCMOutdoors Mine is a road legal Pedelec bike, a Mondraker dusty does me fine, a couple of months ago it helped me do the Sustrans C2C route from Whitehaven to Tynemouth
Hi Chris, awesome video as always. I like the tent too. What I love about you is your so down to earth and very honest. Beautiful place too. Have a great week and see you on the next adventure. 😊👍
For such weather, a two-person, two-layer expedition tent by Hilleberg Staika would be more suitable!!! Unfortunately, this tent does not have a skirt and the wind can blow into it from below!!! In such weather, a skirt would not be superfluous!! But this tent weighs 4 kg!!!
? The Staika doesn't have a skirt - it's exactly the same as the Soulo - which is a double skin tent. Both tents are black label (ie 4 season) and both tents are made by Hilleberg. The Staika weighs 4kg, the BL Soulo is 2.8kg. I'm not sure I understand your point?
Great to see you back Chris , on the subject of reviews , it would be great to hear your thoughts on the paramo velez adventure smock , I personally think there a very underrated piece of equipment, I love mine
Loved the orange fly as it definitely brighted up the landscape of our dreary dismal.. dare I say "Summer" 🤦♀️ we need a refund on our long awaited 6 weeks of sunshine & warmer weather! I actually had to put the heating on last night! Absolutely freezing, can't believe I did it,but had to. Great upload and family always come first 👍🏻.
Thank you Jane and thanks so much for supporting the channel. Feels like I have no time at the moment, I feel pretty worn out to be honest 😬 looking forward to out summer break and doing nothing! Thank you and ATB
You're doing great Chris, you will forge your path and power on through it.. find your fleeting moments of solitude and enjoy them to the maximum! Take care 👍🏻@MCMOutdoors
Made my decision, after a year of research................ Got to be the bombproof Kuiu Storm Star 2p and in the next two months, gonna purchase it (just waiting for a special offer deal from Kuiu). It is more spacious than my Fjallraven Abisko Lite 1 on those long winter nights. Tight as a drum, so no flapping noise keep me awake, like the Fjallraven, and the Hilleberg Soulo BL. Kuiu price point already great deal. Also it is made in U.S.A. and all materials are sourced in U.S.A. Not a fan of giving China a helping had in their economy................. Keep it West when possible.
Great adventure! Had quite a change in weather as the video progressed. That was a beautiful blue sky early on. Like that tent. I guess I would be right with you getting a more subdued fly color. That is a bright one when you are inside with the sunlight shining through it. Beautiful vistas with peaceful relaxation is how I would describe this one. Thanks for taking us along. ATB.
I've just got the green fly! So that will be great for those brighter days. Orange does great in the winter on those dull, dreary days but when the sun shines it can be a bit bright. The use of space for such a tiny footprint is superb. Thank you for watching Denis.
Yo Chris….i’ve just watched your last two vids back to back..( I’ve not had time recently) the kids camp in Lake District & your solo camp.. Boss mate…in my view perfect life balance…ie amazing time with kids enjoying freedom outdoors..but also having amazing time to yourself..( that’s equally important) As for not posting content more frequently..that’s your business.. We all just look forward to watching the next instalment of the MCM show P.s. as for the Access 1..( unlike Hollands Euro 24 dream ) The future’s bright the future’s orange 😂😂 Take care Mr 👍 Come on England 🏴
Really enjoyed this video Chris. Loved the voice over section and scenery editing in it. Don’t worry about getting videos out, just get yourself out as and when time suits your commitments. You’re a top dad mate, well done Chris 👏 👌⛺️
Nice to be see you out up there. Looking relaxed. Good for the soul. I use trail shoes. The grip is amazing but ankle support compromised a bit. 🤏 You do the right thing putting the camping second. No question. No idea what’s happening with the weather. I had my big coat on my last camp. It’s crazy. Rain. Wind. Cloud. Cold. May as well be February man. Anyway. Loved the views in the morning. Makes it all worth it. Send : summer. Heat. MSR things. New sleep mat (dog proof) whislux wind rope and bat ears for parties. 🎉 👍 👍
Thanks mate. Agree re the trail shoes - grip on these was superb! Ankle support obviously non existent - if the terrain suits, no brainier. If a lot of scrambling etc, I'd say boots better. These were v comfy. Was nice to be out! Almost forgot how to pitch a tent! Send wig.
One of the best views in the Northern Lakes (imo) from the summit kern and like you I have been up there numerous times and I find it a bit harder every time I climb it. Not the biggest tent I have seen you in but big enough and I am always happy in anything I can sit up in and when those showers cleared the views were amazing. Never easy watching England, which is why I gave up 25 years ago, far to bad for my blood pressure and never watched a game since. Real moody morning, gave it a mystic feel to wake up too and good to see you got no rain on those rocky descents, cheers Alan
Haha - isn't it amazing how the 'helpers' are never around to help setup or break camp!! And if you need to find them the shop is the best starting point (with my monkey anyway!!) Huge tent that - looks class to be fair
