I have long natural coily hair. When I compliment those with beautiful short kinky hair, they look surprised. We need to embrace our natural hair at every length.

Instead of being jealous, people could use that energy to take down notes & work on their hair being healthy or long. Jealousy is a waste of time when anyone can achieve what they want. It just takes time, effort, & work. Some people just don’t want to put the work in 🤷🏽‍♀️. If you find yourself being jealous & saying rude things to people out of spite without putting the work in, then respectfully close that hole that’s on your face.

sometimes people cant achieve what others have. The goal should be contentment and self acceptance and not trying to achieve everything youre jealous of because sometimes you cant for many reasons.

So true! One day I was wearing my natural hair straighten in a ponytail. One of my friends complimented me on how beautiful and long it looked. Then my sister (yes, my sister) interrupted her and said : “it’s broken in the nape anyways”. I completely forgot about this memory but your video brought it back lol. I can also relate to the time thing 😅. One day I had somebody tell me : “you have long hair because you stay at home all day” and I was like yes but I work too, I’m an entrepreneur. Then she was like : “yes but I have a real job outside, with a lot of things to do”. Okay so my hair is long because I have nothing to do, gotcha 🤣✅

sis! o was told am retaining long hair because I was pregnant at the time. sometimes it comes from the most unexpected people in the most unexpected way and at the most unexpected time. why is it so important that the nape was broken? the hair was still long and beautiful so why not focus on the positive? I got told once my hair is long but full of split ends 😅

I choked on my water at the stares lol. My bf mom was blown away when i wore my hair in an afro for a vacation. Shes a blk woman with a whit husband. She didnt have a good perception of natural hair due to her experiences. She was all over my because she loved that my hair was thick. I've NEVER SEEN HER REAL HAIR, but she told me her hair is thin. She told me she would love to have my hair thickness. Its like i get bownie points just for having it out.

I have thick natural hair and my sister had thinner natural hair but she almost NEVER wears it out. I’m not gonna lie but having thicker hair (that some people complain about handling when styling it/maintaining) helps your self confidence… like when you put it in an Afro, etc. my thick hair helps me cover up a bad haircut. My sis doesn’t really like her hair and having thinner hair doesn’t help her case but I wish she embrace it and take more care of it. Then, she will learn to love it.

If you want to know "hair jealousy", visit a salon. Those stylists come from hell for sure. My hair has always been past shoulder length and as a result, I have suffered under their care over the years. So I stopped going to them. I started doing my hair and went natural even before I knew the natural movement was a thing. Now that I have grown my hair longer, they will NEVER touch it. The last time I went to a salon they told me I needed to cut off half my length. And they called that a trim.
@lola0600
@lola0600 Месяц назад
After I had my son I went to the hair salon to get my hair done. My whole pregnancy, I kept my hair in a bun, just wanted it to look nice. During my pregnancy my hair had literally grown to waist length. The stylist had me in the salon all day. She said she was going to make my hair look really nice. She cut my hair to shoulder, straighten it, giving me a mushroom hairstyle. I had to restyle my hair because it looked so crazy. I was young at the time, in the early 1990’s. That would not happen now.

I BELIEVE OUR HAIR HAS BEEN SHORT DUE TO COLONIZATION AND BEING RIPPED FROM OUR NATURAL ENVIRONMENT AND THE NATURAL PRODUCTS LIKE ALOE VERA AS WELL AS TRADITIONAL METHODS OF HOW OUR MOTHERS AND GRANDMOTHERS CARED FOR OUR HAIR. This is a tactic I've seen my aunt do. I want to research what this behavior is called but it's basically like the person giving the advice is trying to elevate themselves and remind you that you still need improvement or your hair isn't even that great, as in, it's not at a healthy point. This is to be demeaning as if you still noticeably had damage or something to work on when clearly you are thriving but it's impossible for people like this to say that out of their mouth. They want to hold the power and if they recognize your greatness, to them they lose it.

i have very dense hair and have had aunties who i have never seen their natural hair all my life tell me i have too much hair. Its so strange because how can i have too much when this is what God gave me. At my last job i had a male co worker who loved my hair and would always come to me for advice for his daughters hair. One day he suggested a woman wear her natural hair "like brandi". I wish he didnt say that because it caused so much problems surrounding my hair. That for the last 6 months of my job i wore it in twist or buns. If she wants to wear wigs thats her right. He should have never compared us. I will say she did start wearing her own hair. It was relaxed but i will say she looked way more beautiful with her own hair.

I reckon there is a "Tall Poppy Syndrome" amongst us women in the natural hair community or women within communities where afro type hair is prominent. We have believed and have been taught that our hair doesn't grow and isn't "good hair" 💔. So perhaps for some, when they see hair out of the norm, their reaction is to thwart it so it can conform to the "norm." It's sad because a little curiosity has the ability to change so much! I personally admire your hair and hope to grow healthier hair by following your tips, I'm just not consistent nor patient, the stagnant length is all me, I'm claiming my "L" 😂

I had problems when I was younger and I had a weave or two long braids put in, girls tried to fight me. My freshman year in college was ridiculous< I couldn't believe young women at that age were so jealous and nasty. They did encourage the Back young men on campus to behave badly. several walked through my dorm and tried to break into my room. I was taking a nap.I didn't even know the young men. my locks had to be replaced. I caught the young ladies one by one and that solved the issues with them. I transferred and never looked back. I think its sad that people behaved this way. But, God covers you so you just keep looking forward. Now, I wear my own hair and I still have women asking me if Im wearing a wear. Some women!
