It's amazing to get to talk to the "old-schoolers" in the trade because you get to hear stories about how things used to be, as well as how they've watched things change throughout the years. In this episode, I talk to Wayne about his years as an electrician, as well as being an inspector and instructor for a large portion of his career. He shares with us some of the changes he's seen in the electrical trade, including grounding and bonding language, equipotential bonding in pools, and electrical safety.
Wayne is retired though is currently an instructor with Capital Electric Supply based in Maryland. He's written books and drawings that he uses as teaching-aids and if you're interested in finding out more about Capital's training programs you can find them here: www.capitalelectricsupply.com

omg yup well the only thing that hard for me personally was understanding the formula for 3 phases on ranges. But I gave it a 10 cause I never studied calculations before and at that time before I got my masters it was difficult to understand in class because he was moving too fast. I understand we can’t stay on one topic for to long but let me and I know others didn’t understand it as well, get a clear understanding on what going in these article

I love these podcast like formats of the show. With RU-vid premium the give me the ability to listen to them with background play. Also since I have the ability to listen to them I really don't have to watch these videos I could just listen to them.

@52:00. I deal with that protective relaying on 92kv, 35kv,15kv and 5kv everyday. It is very interesting. BTW, there is a neutral (Star connected on high side) on the GSU Transformer in Substations and the Generator itself is connected in Star.

I have a question in regards to article 210.19 (A) (3) Exception 1 in 2017 NEC code book. It states that a 20amp conductors (#12 wire) can be tapped from a 50 amp branch circuit that supplying a range. My question is What is protecting that number 12 wire? How is a 50amp breaker going to protect this wire? Maybe I'm not reading it correctly. Thank you
@stephenspencer3883
@stephenspencer3883 Год назад
That is a great question! I never thought it through but now that I have, I don't see 20a protection on a 50a breaker. I was instructed to have a service reset near a hottub disconnect and someone mentioned tapping the 50a line I to the disconnect. The deck needed power anyway so I ran a new 20a circuit to the first GFCI and so forth. Deck has power and there is a service recep. All is correctly protected. But.... had I not done that, hmmmmmm!

It would be valuable if you were to do a video on the merits of pool tensive bonding as opposed to single wire. Not to mention future life saving.

I was a journeyman for 16yrs in San Diego,ca. At a shipyard. But now I need information about how to get my license for wireing houses.I use to run and hook up the generator, power panels.I feel it is much easier to wire a house .I rewind my house and the Inspector said I should get my license . Because he never seen a house and panel And grounding was good. So I live in Shreveport LA, now I plan on leaving here soon, but I want to get my license. Can your class or training on line. Help me

In Oregon you have to have 8,000 hours as a licensed apprentice to take your Journeyman's test and you have to have 8,000 hours as a licensed Journeyman to take your Supervising Electrician's test. In Oregon a Master Electrician is called a Supervising Electrician. To become an Electrical Contractor you have to have an EC license and have a Supervising Electrician License or Hire an Electrician that has a Supervisors License.

Went to that website. How can you just buy one of his books? All they sell is courses. My guess is the book availability is linked to taking those courses which is fine. Just be nice to support him by being able to buy a book as well.

Master Electrician? Does that mean he knows how to bend pipe with his mind. Journeyman card being a stepping stone, that is brutal.

Liked the Content . It’s a paper pushers word . Rooms full of people who never actually done the work thinking that paper means as much as experience. The set on your ass crowd trying to act like they’ve been somewhere and done something. America was built on hard work not paper pushers.

Ike Rivers only if they have enough practical experience to know the rules they dream up have a valid reason. Not political BS to pad a buddy’s pocket for there shares of the kick backs. I’m not talking standard practice codes or rules. Im speaking of municipalities and local areas dreaming up things that benefit no one but themselves.

@@jman210210 i have no clue tbh. I just graduated trade school. But theres no such thing as a "master license" here. Ik one conpany i worked for & the guy just has a contractors license but the company just did some electrical work when installing ATMs it was more software/programming and rigging the atm machine to where the bank wanted it
@drewcausey8441

jordan clayton technically anyone can get a contractors license. You don’t have to be a master to start your own electrical company. You do, however, have to have a masters to perform work on your own
