I get the feeling that Mark doesn't take these films seriously.

Quicksand and lava -- the bane of every child under 10

What’s nuts about the awful jellyfish transformation is they didn’t even have to pretend Egon actually turned into a jellyfish-man: they could have just stuck with him being crazy after having been mistreated so often and assembling a shoddy costume to take revenge, like, “You think I look like I have a jellyfish scar on my face? Well, I guess I’ll just become a scarring jellyfish then!” Much more plausible than him being able to do all that scientific stuff.

“Half Man. Half Jelly, and half Fish” legit made me howl with laughter. I need a t shirt of that because the math is spot on.

I like to listen to Mark when I fall asleep. Its like hes telling me a strange bedtime story.

Are we not gonna talk about how easy it would be to outrun a person wearing swimfins?

All jokes aside (and this was very funny, as always) what I noticed most about the movie was how pretty it looks: such beautiful color, not the kind of cinematography you'd expect from such a B-grade production. It also reminded me of "Creature From the Black Lagoon", minus the great underwater footage and superior presentation, of course. Another unexpected gem from Mark.

I also grew up in the 80s. Can confirm, quicksand was in frikkin' everything. Gave me nightmares for _years_

We all had a fear of quicksand. For some reason when I was younger it was everywhere in films and tv. I thought for sure I’d have at least a handful of quick sand encounters in my life. I’m 33 and I haven’t had one run in with the stuff.

Great job (as usual). I'm now doing the "Jellyfish" when I'm at a night club. At least until I've been unceremoniously escorted back to my assisted living facility.

Hey Mark! I’ve been here for years and I have to say I’m so happy you’re uploading more often. I love your content.

Quicksand. When I was a kid I saw an episode of Branded where a guy died in quicksand... and nearly every Tarzan and jungle movie at that time had at least one death by quicksand... freaked me out too! Who knows how many quicksand pits where lurking in rural England?

As a historian I can confirm that Mark's description of growing up in the 60s is completely accurate.

Quicksand was shown in a ton of shows back then. It was in everything from cartoons to Fantasy Island or even Heart to Heart and Gunsmoke. Class action lawsuit, anyone?

Dude, just looking at the subject in & quality of that thumbnail, I thought to myself, “Is he reviewing an episode of Power Rangers?!” It definitely has that vibe of the first couple seasons of MMPR - probably EVERY season, but, those are the only seasons I watched. Can’t you just hear Zordon warning the team, “Rangers, be very careful! He may look soft & easy to defeat, however; the sting of the Jelly Jiggler can not only harm you - even through your suits - but, it might be able to interfere with your Zords’ computer systems!” Then, that annoying little Alpha-5 would chime in with an “Aye-yi-yi-yi-yi! Oh Rangers, please be careful!” To which Tommy would have pointed to his (underutilized) shield &, with extremely over-exaggerated hand signals, he would’ve responded, “Don’t worry Alpha. The Power Rangers can defeat anything Rita throws at us & still have time for our cross-country, extreme dirt bike stunt show/triathlon race where all proceeds go to the local rehabilitation facility for quadriplegic, dyslexic, orphans who suffer from PTSD!” Then, Jason would jump in - mostly because, once Tommy showed up, he seemed to be demoted to second-in-command - with something like, “Come on guys, let’s send this guy back to the underwater rock he swam out from under! IT’S MORPHIN TIME!!!” Yup. I can see it right now.

oh shit i JUST rewatched EARTHQUAKE and cracked up in disbelief at that same astounding detail!! (the rest is pretty much equally wretched too.)

Lol, I grew up in the mid 80's and 90's, and I also had a huge fear of quicksand! It was in all our media for children.

I was charmed when you referenced the horrible elevator shot in "Earthquake." I was 13 years old when it came out, and for the most part the disaster effects were awesome. But that elevator "blood" effect made me cringe. As a 13-year-old in 1974.

I've heard so many times here that not to get into the water (pool,river,lake,etc..) after you've been on the sun for too long. Tho there was a case here when one guy was laying on the sun for an hour while his friends went for a swim, when they got out he went straight in, dove down and never came back up, his heart gave up due to sudden temperature change and cooling.

Ah, yes, I remember the good ol’ days of suntan lotion in the 60’s - for those under 20, it was the opposite of sunscreen; suntan lotion would INCREASE the sun’s effect so you got a darker tan than you otherwise would. Some people actually slathered baby oil on themselves and lay out in the sun like a sparkling leather sausage. Good times.

By the way, in the 1960's people applied suntan lotion to enhance the tan, rather than sunscreen. Nobody used sunscreen then. Suntan oil or lotion only. Tanning was a big deal.
