Showing off some of the new stuff thats been added since the last video. We now have the Elites, Grunts and Jackals, along with some other Covenant scenery pieces.
I feel like using the reach grunt, jackal, and hunter models would work a lot better. It feels kinda weird with the halo 3 models for some of the enemies imo.
Seeing Halo 3's Chief in these cutscenes... I can't describe it any other way other than cozy? It gives me that little bit of familiarity Halo 4 was lacking. Amazing work so far, can't wait til this is available EDIT: Petition to call this mod "Halo 4: Threemastered"
Never realized how much I would enjoy this. The visual disparity between Chief and the rest of the UNSC definitely helps with that “man out of time” vibe the game was going for and makes chief’s more rebellious behavior a lot more believable.
This has always been my head cannon. Chief awakens on a Covenant-War era frigate (Forward Unto Dawn) with Mk. 6 Gen 1 armor, and Covenant-War era weapons like the BR55, MA5C, and M6G. Chief encounters the Storm faction, a mix of the different races and species (new and old Elites, grunts, etc.). Being an independent remnant like the Banished, the Storm faction can be seen using a mix of Covenant War and Post-War weapons and armors. As Chief moves towards Laskey’s distress signal in the jungle, he encounters the new Post-War era UNSC weapons for the first time. From that point on, Covenant-War era UNSC weapons can be seen less and less. The game progresses normally until Chief’s mission to take out the gravity well, where he is seen in his new, Gen 2 Mk. 6 (specialized) armor and using Post-War era weaponry. The Storm faction remains updated, and the game progresses normally.
I feel exactly the same ab that. Also wish we saw more of arbiter and the good elites in the post war era fighting alongside the unsc since they were such a big part of halo 3. Them using combat harnesses and legacy weapons like the plasma rifle and older but more robust covenant weapons while remnants like the storm covenant using the variations of the storm harness and the newer but less reliable versions of weapons like the storm rifle. 343 did arbiter and the sos so dirty in halo 5 just making them red storm elites and having them all use the same weapons
I agree with a lot of this, but personally I think that chief should stick with the same armor the entire game as to still have the impact of the end cutscene with his armor being removed. Other than that and the UNSC and Storm covenants vehicles and gear needing to be a little simplified and less busy, that would be wonderful.
Was noticing his chest plate stands out as rigid and dated compared to the rest of him, especially under certain lighting. I agree with the sentiment. I'm incredibly blown away with how good they've got him looking so far, especially that visor. The shot at 5:02 is just ridiculously good, arguably iconic imagery
I don't think they'll do it. The texture quality is poor compared to H4 but they haven't responded to comments with this feedback, maybe theirs an issue with doing so
@@Hybred it's just a suggestion, it's their mod after all but I think it would help it stand out less, halo 3s models and textures were designed to he visible on low res crt monitors and halo 4 was meant to be visible on 720p lcd monitors so the level of detail kind of clashes just because of that change in visual priorities.
@@JuiceboxCE yeah at 0:54 the scratches on the chin of his helmet really stood out to me as low resolution and blurry compared to everything else in the game
Yeah 2007 textures definitely will stand out as lower quality now compared to the Halo 4 texture assets. I think a texture upgrade for a mod is going to be needed.
In addition to the armor, which looks great, it's amazing how simply playing halo 3 music as you fight makes it feel so much more like a real halo game
Now we need to make the ugly Halo 4 Elites look like the ones from Infinite or Halo 3. And then turn the strange Halo 4 Marines, into familiar green Marines by changing their textures.
God it's so much better. With this armor you really feel out of place on requiem. Pair that with a rescore of Bungie era halo music+343 music, putting covie models where they belong, and you've got a massive improvement on this game. Can't wait to see this thing finished.
This is fantastic work. It really shows that the decision to update chief's armor using nanobots to explain the armor change wasn't needed to adapt a new style. It feels so natural despite not being released as such. Incredible on how this makes me feel.
I think I remember hearing from someone that the whole nanobots thing got retconned, and the Chief's appearance in 4/5 is basically just a different interpretation between art styles. Don't quote me on it, it might just be a rumor, but honestly it makes sense with this mod. I'd definitely prefer to use the classic Mk. 6 over what we had in 4, at least until Chief gets on the Infinity.
@@commanderjason7786 It's not retconned. It was always just a "handwave away" styled joke when they got asked the reason for the change. They literally just wanted to make Halo theirs and changed the art style because they were disgustingly arrogant. (same with gameplay) Think about the CGI cutscene showing the same Mark Six on the other spartans in the flash backs. Just an art style change. They also were contemplating getting rid of Steve and Jen as voice actors as well and replacing them.
@@commanderjason7786 I thought it was the other way around? Like it was meant to be the same armor as halo 3, but after backlash or something 343 Backpedaled and said it was nano machines and that’s why it’s different. And same for the covenant, that they were just a redesign, still meant to be the same elites and grunts and jackals, but were later changed into being a different phenotype
Chief still having his old armour honestly really aids the themes of the story, the idea that the galaxy has moved on without him in the time between 3 and 4 is easily seen by the contrast between his gear and the higher tech gear of the Infinity and Storm's crews. Love it!
I would love to see you simplify every model in the game but I know that would be way too much work and cut into a lot of your personal time. Love your videos.
5:03 this shot right here, of the original halo 3 MC in front of a group of gen 2 recruits is absolute gold, to me it speaks so loud about master chief being imitated but also makes him look out of his fort not being the only spartan anymore, he is treating with news here, he is not with veterans like jhonson and arbyter, his equals are so bellow his skills but yet they get favorited because of their new technology
Imo there shouldn't have been a sequel to h3, in my personal Canon chief goes into cryo in the lost half of the frigate and goes MIA He, like johnson, went out with a bang and truly reinforced the saying "Spartans never die, theyre just MIA"
When I saw the thumbnail for this video, I almost thought I was looking at a scene in Halo 3. But then I saw the hologram and was like... "Huh... That don't look right." Then I figured out what I was looking at. It just looks so... Natural... Like it was meant to look that way. Well done.
I absolutely love this, my biggest complaint with halo 4 was the lore break of chiefs armor, so to see him like this makes the game so much better, the only real nit pick is the dang audio.. the assault rifle may look like halo 3 but still sounds like a dang paintball gun. Other then that it’s beautiful!
Thank you for this. When I watch Halo 4 cutscenes I always just assume his new look was just a re-skin of the Halo 3 armor to help fit with the artwork but in-universe it's how it looked at the end of Halo 3. The armor being green with the orange visor, the scar on the chest piece and the black undersuit were all indicators to me that it was just redesign for the game's visuals only. Unnecessary but I can ignore all that. And you. You, my friend working to make the legendary John-117 look how he should've been, regardless of the art direction 343 had at the time. Hell, they could've used the new style for everything like they did but they should've left Chief's design alone and considering they went back to the Bungie style for Halo Infinite it was all pointless anyway! Now I can watch these amazing works of yours to see how I always picture the cutscenes in my head while watching them. 😍 Again Thank you so much
Wow it felt so good to see H3 armor in the cryo tube! In the official game, I would have preferred the armor change at the end, to say " the old era is officially over, let's go with the new one". I don't like the idea of changing armor on the Infinity on Requiem because I don't think Infinity went around with an updated brand new huge armor for a Spartan II just in case 😆 Great job!
Exactly. Even the Forward Unto Dawn at the beginning of the game was changed to look like a modern frigate, which comes across as 343i had some sort of distaste for Bungie Halo.
This is looking amazing - the only thing that really seems to be missing from the shaders are the detail bitmaps that added the leather and panel scratches overlaid onto the textures. Otherwise this is stellar porting, it's so neat to see how quickly modding the game is progressing.
Yea we really need some detail overlays, H4 materials are really weird though theyre pretty locked down. To make Chief look decent we're using the original H4 Chief shader and making our own control map for it. But the original H4 chief shader only has the option to tile a detail normal map. I have an idea of kinda getting around it, so if that goes good it should look alot better
I've always had a huge issue with Halo 3's elite model, especially when Halo 2's looks so good (from both the AI, and a player using the biped) I always had a hunch it was the big body not melding with the player stance, and it was noticeable in the cutscene where Johnson and Arby are grabbing gear for each side, and when that elite jumps off the ghost, he looked gnarly. That model looks AMAZING with these animations, it's absolutely unreal. I'm curious how they'll do alongside Halo 4's dialogue for Storm
Halo 4 uses the same ai and biped from halo reach. Which is why these halo 3 reskins look amazing. They stand tall like reach elites instead of being hunched over
This is incredible, chief in his ACTUAL mark 6 armor it looks too good. Not to beat a dead meme, but it is truly I C O N I C lol. Good job on everyone working on this
i always had this idea, to make halo 4 re-told, changing some of the most disliked narrative aspects of the original game and keeping the well liked intimate story between chief and cortana, i hope this is the start for a mod like what i am describing
i would love it if chief woke up from cryo with the original halo 3 armor, but upgraded it when he arrived to the infinity, meanwhile cortana felt offended because of her rampancy saying something like "ooh so now because your technology was getting old you are just going to discard it? what's next then, am i just like an accessory that you can throw away?" and it would shine light on how cortana is starting to feel self aware and questioning what it really feels to be alive, and the fear of being discarded like trash
this would unlock some gameplay changes too, the gen 1 mark 6 would move at the same speed as it did in halo 3 and would have no access to armor abilities or sprint, when upgraded to gen 2 he would get the armor abilities, sprint, invulnerability to de-scoping, assassinations
and then he would get upgraded to a forerunner armor, like the one guilty spark was talking about during the library, and it would be an absolute power fantasy
I still wish this was how the game really started. With him in his old armour until he gets to the Infinity. Would've made more sense than using nanobots as an excuse later on.
this looks sooooo good. i feel bad for you in that people are going to throw a lot of suggestions at you because youre giving them hope haha. music and sound design is my suggestion :)
This is incredible! I have wanted this for 10 years now, and it's finally happing! You guys are truly the best! As the people are saying, the visor especially looks great now, and it's so good to see grunts and other enemies that doesn't look ugly.
You're fixing what is, to me, the greatest weakness of the Halo 4 campaign: the art style. I love the change in tone this game brought, with Master Chief and Cortana's relationship evolving throughout. Seeing Master Chief unable to accept Cortana's inevitable fate and Cortana slowly coming to accept it was really the only thing they could have done with those characters to keep it interesting. It felt like it was written purposefully and intelligently, with heart to round it out. It has some of my favourite moments in any Halo. But 343 made many mistakes with their first entry, a major one being completely redesigning the art style. Cause that's what you should do when you inherit one of gaming's biggest franchises...change everything about it. Master Chief just didn't look or feel like the Master Chief we knew before. I liked the changes to Cortana to be honest...it made her feel more present and more human, which aligned with the theme of the game. Also, can't believe you're fixing the covenant as well...another "why the fuck would you change that??" aspect of what 343 did with the art style. The grunts were iconic...they didn't need to become goblins (is it possible to fix the grunts silly alien high pitched 'voices'?). The elites were iconic...they didn't need to evolve into lesser brutes.
Well said, I loved Halo 4's depiction of them too. 110% agree on everything else Am I the only one who felt like Cortana wasn't any different? She was having a lot of ISSUES, sure, but they were enforced on her by time. She was still who she was before and she was just reacting to the stimulus of the story. Only thing I didn't like was a couple over-dramatic lines, but there were many more dramatic ones that I loved.
@@Spritzkrieg I was more talking her appearance rather than her personality, but yes, I agree. They both felt like the same characters, but Master Chief's redesign was just too much. It broke the immersion for me. Same with the other art changes, it pulled me out of the experience. Halo 4 as a whole is by no means perfect, or even great, but there was greatness in there. It had what I refer to as "moments", like the previous Halo's before it.
The music overpowers the dialogue at the 6 minute mark, but otherwise, this is immaculate - what a labor of love and a solid one at that. Chief in his Mark VI just looks perfect here.
This, Rescored and Reflowed would be the definitive way of replaying Halo 4 imo. Can't believe how great it looks. It would be cool if someone could place some H3 tracks alongside Halo 4's tracks, and maybe replace the Covenant's sounds (specially for the Grunts) to something else. Maybe they could keep the whole "alien speech" aspect, perhaps Reach's? IDK, but keep up the good work! I love the small updates you're getting for Halo 3 and 4.
Wow seeing Chief's real armor is making Halo 4 look good for real! Its hard to put it into words how great it was seeing the Chief being back in the first cutscene. The entire game of Halo 4 need to be upgraded to look like Halo 3, the landscape aswell. I'm ecstatic
This is without a doubt, the best alt chief armor mod i've seen so far across all of the games. Excellent work. It actually looks fantastic and imo better than the chief we got from 343.
@@teneesh3376 Supposedly Frank O'Connor said in an interview that Chief's armor was upgraded by "nanobots" while he was in cryosleep. Definitely a big stretch of the imagination to make his new armor make sense.
@@bulbousfungus yeah lesson one about those interviews. It's usually devs making stuff up on the spot. Like with the director of sonic explaining why it shows a full moon after sonic adventure 2 had eggman blow up half of the moon. His excuse was the moon was facing a certain direction. Total BS, but I would probably say the same thing to go away from fan out cry
Thanks for making this! It’s crazy how important visual style can be. This feels WAY more Halo than the chunky version of his armor we actually got. Wish they did it this way- everything felt drastically different going into Halo 4 from Halo 3.
God Halo 3 really blew it out of the water with its assets. It's says a lot how a game 5 years older than the one you're playing still looks arguably better than its original assets. My heart melted when he was in the pelican and the bay door dropped. It looks fantastic!
Oh my God, just seeing Chief in his actual armour is so comfortable. The new Mark VI just looked so cold and uncomfortable, but the original look is so cosy. I love it so much. 343 dropped the ball so hard with Halo 4, I can't believe someone thought that was a good idea.
This looks awesome. Next step is replacing Halo 4 assets (where possible) with Halo Infinite assets I do realize this takes a good bit of work and you guys are doing awesome 👌 Keep up the good work!
