Do you currently have a vintage version? I still have my bottle I bought in 1983, and it's about 90 percent full since I barely used it, and then stuck it in a drawer for 40 years. I started wearing it again about a year ago. Surprisingly it still smells very good.
The new Roja APEX Parfum reminds me of this so freaking much! I'm not saying it's the same but I immediately get transported back to the day when i rocked this juice daily. It's just shocking really
I could not afford Z14 in the 70s, in my teens, but I wear it now. It is so inexpensive on Amazon...can get it for pennies. Pennies! And I agree with you that Z14 smells like a Tom Ford fragrance, which is 20 to 30 times more expensive than Z14. I believe I paid $24 on Amazon. Crazy.
I recently posted about this 'fume on Fragrantica. It still gets a fair amount of love among the fragrance community and so because of that, and of course your review, I ordered a whopping 236ml bottle on eBay for 20 quid. It hasn't arrived yet, but I'm confident that I'll be happy with it when it does. Keep on being interesting!!!!!
I was mad at the soapy smell but realized my first spray was more of a downpour, then it sprayed normally. It took my nose a couple separate applications to appreciate the smell. But this is nice for a cheap, every day cologne just to enjoy my own scent (I was 3 years being unable to smell anything so I'm indulging)
I have an original Halston Z14 with no bar code on the box 70s 80s box , I am not sure ,,It is super strong and a bit weird but not bad after a long dry down and it is nothing like the so called Z14 now..I heard the 1st original years of it was really great..Tom Ford may be more like the original from what I have heard
@@oswjim That is incorrect, though not your fault. Both Z-14 and 1-12 were released in 1976 at the same time. Roy Halston was going to release one of them and couldn't make up his mind, so he released both of them (1-12 for daytime wear, Z-14 for nighttime.) Basenotes has it right, as well as almost all other sources. Fragrantica has never fixed this error. www.basenotes.net/ID26120745.html
I’m 55. In the early 80’s I went dancing 3 times a week as a teenager. To this day I wear men’s cologne, Perry Ellis and Halston z14. Women’s scent is not appealing to me. I feel complete when I wear these colognes and receive many compliments.
@@cirealreviews1776 the only true “vintage” Z-14 I have is aftershave. So it’s kind of hard to compare. But my Jeff Gordon bottle is definitely closer to it than current. The current is decent and cheap. Worth buying to see if you like it before vintage hunting.
@@cirealreviews1776 there is only “treemoss” listed in the ingredients of my newest bottle. Jeff Gordon era boxes specifically list oakmoss. The key is to look for listings on eBay that have pictures of the back of the box that list ingredients.
No, Z14 is an all weather fougiere. Possibly better for less hot days but it can be worn in the summer. I certainly wear it when its hot. However its not a freshie by any means.
What fragrance is the best value? That is an easy qustion, Aqua Velva Musk. It is $3 new.. Is t the best fragrance, no, is it bad, no. It is actually quite good,, and there is no other fragrance for the money that is as good. It is without a doubt the best value in fragrances. 3.5oz for $3, cannot be beat.
I just sprayed it on paper two ours ago and all I get is scratchy, astringent, synthetic smelling lemon cleaning product. Haven't sprayed it on my skin yet. I bought it as a supposed "cinnamon scent" but I get absolutely NO cinnamon. The closest thing to it from my experience, other than said cheap lemon cleaning product, is Bijan. I'm going to wear it tomorrow. Not excited. Very, very low expectations.
??? What on earth are you smelling? I just got a bottle of Z-14 and there is nothing pleasant smelling in the opening. It opens with a cheap lemon cleaning product accord. It doesn't even begin to resemble a good fragrance until 30-60 minutes of dry down. This has the absolutely worst opening I've ever smelled. I damn near threw it out. But, I waited. It really does begin to smell nice eventually. However, there is no way to know that from the opening. The opening is a completely different animal and has no resemblance to the dry down. This was a complete surprise to me. I bought some older bottles on eBay and I'm waiting for them to arrive so I can compare them to this current formulation.
Yeah, new formulation sucks balls at the start. Gets better, but still not Z-14 at all as far as smell. Fragrance shop in NC has an oil that is the closest to the original scent I have even smelled. Its actually probably spot on.
