I had my mind set on a Nord but, after seeing this exceptional demo of the Sk Pro I'm rethinking my decision. You really did a brilliant job. Product demo's like this are so important these days. Thank you!
This the best demo by far, the one that made me send back the Yamaha YC and purchase this one. I played and hauled a B3 and Leslie, Fender Rhodes, Mini mood, for years, glad to finally get a Hammond that can do it all.
I really dig the old skool way that you press the different sound section keys by pressing all 3 or 4 keys at once. Brings you back to the days when you could combine a cha-cha with a waltz rhythm on the rhythm sections .. lol.
I love the Hammond organ, I own several vintage tonewheels L and M. There I must admit that I am amazed, it is incredible the work that the Hammond Engineers have done. I've listened to copies of it, none of it achieves such sonic realism, the sound of the mythical B3 is there, really to fool the best expert, but I also think it's imperative (on stage live) to have a Leslie cabinet. Beyond the perfect magical Hammond sounds, the synth section is amazing. The pianos are also breathtakingly realistic. I would have difficulty playing the piano without a heavy touch, but many musicians can do it easily. In conclusion, a more than impressive keyboard organ synth. Don't buy clones from other brands if you're lover of the Hammond, it will reward the tremendous hard work Suzuki Engineers have done, years of research and development with famous organ players, and a result that lives up to the prestigious brand HAMMOND. What is regrettable and revolting is that the manufacture is Chinese.
Can't wait to try this ... NEVER THOUGHT I WOULD WANT TO PLAY PIANO/ STRINGS AND COCKTAIL JAZZ ON A HAMMOND YIKES. TIMES HAVE CHANGE ... GREAT VIEDO DEMO ☺️
Actually one of the greatest features wasn't even mentioned here. Each of the (2) individual voices can be comprised of (4) separate waveforms for a total of 8 waves at once. Then you can edit each of the waves with filters and envelopes and offsets etc. Make a whole band just using one voice. Powerful more then was advertised.
@@Notmehimorthem A waveform is a set of samples of an instrument across the range of the keyboard. So that might be a piano. So you can combine a piano, a string, a synth and a pad into one voice and save that as your custom single voice. Thus it's made up of (4) internal instruments but only occupies a single voice slot. Most stage boards can only play (3) internal instruments at once but with SKpro you can have (2) made up of 4 each making 8 plus the organ and monosynth for 10 instruments playing at once as opposed to only 3.
@@MohammedElSanousi You don't care because you only play one voice at once so it doesn't matter or you only play the organ? It's like buying a Lamborghini but only driving 30mph. You can do it but aren't you curious to see how fast it can really go or to at least have the knowledge of what it can do? IF you MIDI loop using a jumper cable you can probably play two organs at once layered. I do that on Yamahas all the time but haven't tried it on a Hammond. You're faking out the unit to think it's receiving/sending a second MIDI controller signal when it's really just receiving its own external signal back to itself.
If you want a Hammond (and I do, preferably an XK5 but I might have to settle for an Sk PRO), then surely there's only one place to buy it from in the UK after watching Tony's demos? I like that he's a keyboard enthusiast and plays out live too, so he's not just a piano snob despite being a really fantastic piano player.
Excellent sounding instrument. Nicely demoed. Great presentation and overview. I've bought from Bonners several times and always get good service at good price, and always enjoy the great products!
I’m looking at upgrading my rig & was looking initially at the Nord Piano 5 or the Stage 3. Then looked at the Fantom (far too heavy) quickly followed by the Modx. I was convinced the Modx was the solution but then stumbled upon this video which I’ve watched a number of times now. I am now sold on the SK Pro as the right keyboard for me as needed to ensure it had decent pad sounds as well as some mono lead sounds on top of what are the best organ sounds I’ve heard on any instrument. Layering & being able to split in several parts ticks the box big time for me. I’m hopeful of reducing my 3 boards to 2 going forward with this beast. Thank you Tony for an excellent video. This is what sold it for me. Would be great to hear more sounds from the ensemble engine. Also you mentioned in one of your videos that you’d share some patches as well when buying. Something I’d want to take up on once ready to purchase. Well done.
Are you using it now? Do you like the other patches and easy to switch between them? I have a nord electro 4 and thinking about replacing with a Hammond Sk Pro.
That was my only complaint with the skx but with little eqing and editing I got some decent tones but right out of the box this SK-Pro Definitely has a Richer depth piano 🎹.
Wow ! That things amazing ! Where was it in the 70s when I was in and out of garage bands ? Almost makes me wanna start playing again. Thanks for posting. Pretty impressive.
Dear Tony, what an interesting and deep demo! After watching this presentation I really believe that Sk Pro is THE perfect keyboard to have for performance without complicate sets of gears. Amazing organ sounds and Leslie, beautiful piano, all under your fingers. Thank you
Great demo and great keyboard!! Great that they have removed the outside power supply, not only is the power supply easy to forget but indeed was very fragile. I located mine inside the sk1 and made a hole at the same place than this one for the power cable lol
It’s definitely a Nord Electro- Killer! Im not sure if it’ll kill the Nord Stage but it’s a Beast overall, even for live Playing. Thanks for that great Demonstration
Why bother. The Yamaha's are notoriously unable to recreate Les/BK and really anything that Hammond have ever done. Its Hammond or nothing for organ. Piano's are where the Japanese excel and that makes the choice the CP. Not a silly hybrid.
Hi Tony I love your playing and very helpful RU-vid videos on keyboard gear.Because of your great reviews and I have just purchased a Hammond SKPro 73. I am a keyboard player from Sydney in Australia. Would it be possible to place a request for in the future to make a tutorial video on how to edit the SKPro to make User patches and combinations. It does seem a little convoluted to make specific edits e.g to make individual edits to organ sounds specific to certain tunes e.g Greg Rolie type B3 patches to emulate tunes like e.g Evil Ways, Oye Como Va, etc and the distinction between Patches, Combination and Bundles and any help that you offer would be most appreciated for newbie SKPro users. I am a member of the Facebook User Group for hammond SKPro users and this seems to be common question asked. Thanks again for your great reviews and willingness to share your expert knowledge in the keyboard realm. Regards and greetings from Downunder! Keep well in these troubling and testing times Mark Clifford😀
I've been using an older XK3 for several years and have been quite delighted with it. However I have to piggyback two other keyboards to it just to get the variety of sounds I need. The SK Pro is an eye opener for me. Maybe it's time to move up.
That was me several years ago. I had to lug over 200lbs of keys and cases to gigs. I got tired of it and swapped to a Korg Kronos. Sounds great for what it is, but I feel I lost a bit of quality on the switch. That's officially going on Reverb and I am going to get myself one of these!
I used a x50 korg as a controller and play the Crumar Mojo as Standalone ... The Organ is the Best keyboard clav, and the EP sounds perfect!!! I have a SkX but since this whole pandemic thing it's been sitting in the garage for ages now collecting dust inside of its case I find that the small setup works for me and it only takes me 2 minutes to terror down and set up.... Hammond let's get a closer look at performance than features and PRICE .... ______ Who's the target 🎯 market here?
Great demo mate. Wonderful sounds. An old pro Hammond tone wheel player here from the 70s and 80s. I was shocked and saddened to see the ‘Made In China’ print on the back of the instrument during the final video scenes though. I guess that’s why it’s relatively cheap as I was expecting a much higher price when listening to the demo.
@@quincygxng SKpro still not available. Anyway, read an interesting review about the poor design of the presets/combination menu. I think it was either at Sweetwater or Guitar Center. Has me definitely thinking twice about it.
Great demo! I just got the XK5/XLK5 and now this comes out. Jim Alfred son’s demo he said SKpro doesn’t have the multi contact key system you say it does??? How many contacts are simulated in the SKpro? I’m hearing 2 but the XK5 has 3...right? You’ve played both how do they compare?
If I'm not going to use the synth at all (I play 80% organ, 20% piano/EP in my blues band) is the SKPro worth 2X the SK-1 to me (recreational gigging level)? Also how does the XK-4 compare to the SK Pro? Wondering if I'm better off just getting the XK-4 for the organ and continuing to carry 2 boards to gigs (Numa Compact 2X for piano/ep)
Hi, congratulations for this demonstration. We really enjoyed it. Do You know which dealer to reach out to buy one of these in Argentina? Thank You very much.
Had to return the Nord D6 due to faulty keys. Looking for an solid replacement. Which is the better choice in your experience Hammond sk-pro or Yamaha yc61?
Hi. At :27 you split the video screen into parts you’re playing. I know the SK has the audio in, but is there a way to add the “looping” live or is that just multi-performance recording?
Yes, XK5 has a combination of mechanical & virtual multi-contact keybed, while the SK Pro has a virtual multi-contact keybed. These two instruments anyway are the only ones in the market that have a multi-contact touch, in this price territory. The Hammond New B3/C3 mk2 have full mechanical multi-contact keybeds, but their price is out of this world...
Sounds great! Only one EP program? That's a real deal breaker. Not too many songs in any repertoire I've played with bands has a lot of spacey synth sounds in it. Organs sound great as do the acoustic pianos. Seems if there were a good selection of EPs, we would have heard more than a snippet of one. With hardly any Rhodes or Wurlitzer sounds, it leaves out a whole lot of jazz, rock & fusion songs in any band I've been with. For $3G, what gives?
@@amandajones3763 Thanks! I think you're right. That's a new and very nice song for me. I think I'm gonna search for its piano cover that sounds as good as in this demo.
This video single handily sold me, thank you 🙏 could you possible indulge in a thorough reply on how you set up that ensemble for the floydian jam in the intro? Amazing.
So since delivery, I guess all I am asking is what patches you choose to achieve these sounds. That’s all. No need for a walk through on how to play. I get the levels ect ect but I am blown away by the depths of the sounds from within this monster!
Ok. So I figured it out. Not too bad. Legato strings on bottom split. Melodic Solo 1 on top. Turn off sustain pedal on top (keep it on on bottom) Turn off pitch bend o on bottom(keep on top). Transpose bottom up a couple octaves. That should do the trick. Shine on!!!
@@jamesmabugu7899 Yes, but neither does my Roland or Hammond. I don't need that capability, so to answer your question, this is a superb all-in-one board for the gigging muso. The only thing I might miss a bit is the fully weighted piano keys.
Can you route the organ out the 11 pin Leslie cable and the other sounds out the main 1/4” outs so one can play organ through a Leslie and the other sounds through another amp?
Nice demo, would like to try one! Organ sounds great, but the rest don’t quite measure up to the Nords for me, the Ep’s and piano are a bit artificial sounding. If it was priced right, it would definitely be a good contender for the Nord electro
@@JamesCorbettMusic5000 everything is really down to preference, either one would will sound fantastic. Splitting hairs is what we do though, check out the side by side with the Nord on here.
Hammond bedeutet für mich Orgelsound der 50er Jahre - das Piano schäppert, die Synths sind sehr dünn und trotz der perfekten Vorführung: Auch die Orgelsounds sind nicht mehr das, was sie mal waren - schade !!
