Thanks for mentioning Jed. Ironic it's on a square filing video as well, His square filing knowledge (along with everything else) was incredible and got me into square filing recently. Taken way too soon. Be safe everyone. RIP Jed.
Buckin, Thank you so much for mentioning Jed. He was a true student of the game. I'm gutted over his loss too and have carried his memory front and center to the base of ever tree this week. There's so much damage involving firs right now... they're all hazard trees. God bless you and Wendy. Glad you are both safe and on the mend!!
Jed or “Jedi” as I referred to him was a cool dude who left this mortal coil WAY too soon. Awhile back I sent him a few loops of chain and he handfiled them sqr/sqr for me and also sent me a file to boot ! Never got to meet him in person but did have some good convos with him. Guilty of treason has a go fund me , if you can find it in your heart ❤️ donate to it - he leaves behind a wife and children … God bless y all and Rest In Peace Jedi
RIP Jed Walters , one of the greatest skaters to ever stand on a board and surfers to ever touch a wave, he carried that same passion into tree work . Good bless his friends and family, stars always burn out hard and bright.
Just read this and went to the guilty of treeson channel right away... Damn... Loved the man. Can't say how many times I have watched the WORLD'S BEST TREE FELLING TUTORIAL
The first video I ever saw on square filing was a colab with Jed Walters and Jacob! It was such a lovely video with Jacob randomly saying I love you Jed to which Jed replied I love you too man! RIP Jed you were a true friend to all and a Jedi inspiration for the generations of woodsman to come.
We're all feeling Jeds loss because even though we didn't meet him there's a warmth that can be felt even through a video. You have it too Buckin. I pray peace for Jeds family.
Hey Buckin, I'm just a little older than you. I turned 54 Jan 16 of this year, and I want to say that your videos and Information helped me in so many way's. My wife and I live in the mountains of North Carolina, and we have a wood burner. We've been married for 17 years, and about 15 years ago she bought me a poulan pro 35 cc in hope that I would cut firewood, gave it a try , and needless to say I have been buying wood untill last year. I'm the proud new owner of 4 other saw's, and this year and years to come wont be buying firewood anymore! Thank you brother for all your great input! and as always, Be Kind, and God Bless
Everybody seemed to love Jed and finding out that he had the opportunity for fame but turned to humility increased my respect for him even more. That along with his devotion and love for God is amazing and explains the influence he had on so many. Greatly missed by so many even though most of never got to meet him in-person. Prayers for his family!
Good to see you helping your bride out💪 Hi Wendy👋 Get well soon❤ Thanks for you friend! You always brighten my day ☀️ ✊ Inbred Jed ✊ your inspiration will carry on💪I hope to meet you on the other side. What a chiseled example he was of himself. You will be missed😔RIP
Impeccable timing! I dulled a chain just a few hours ago while ripping some black walnut into slabs. Bartered with the slabs to make a donation to the local lion's club for their annual pancake feed. Worked out great
I always loved the woods and mountains, as a child of four I remember vividly the beautiful sight of a carpet of bluebells, as far as the eye could see. This was in the ancient woodlands where I lived in South Wales, UK. On top of the mountain my friends and I would watch the skylarks singing their hearts out, whilst soaring high in the sky. We would walk back down through the oak, elm, ash, beech, silver birch, hawthorn and many other deciduous trees, that surrounded the area where we lived. I really enjoy your video’s, many thanks! God Bless America and it’s wonderful people.
Bucking Billy Ray, you are tha man!!! There's a lot of knowledge in that head of yours, thank you for sharing and not only that it's just the way you do it,I can see you're at peace so relaxed the words coming out of your mouth just makes you to glow GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY
Buckin' I tuned into Devon Larratt's livestream this morning (NZ time) and how cool it was to see your $50 superchat on the screen. Thanks for supporting another great Canadian mentor of young men (and women probably)
Awesome Video Buckin! It was very sad to hear about Jed.🥺 It's so Amazing to see the channels like yourself acknowledge Jed even though you might not have known him. 🤗🤗🙏🏻🙏🏻

G’day Buckin! Love the video and the channel !! Can you please shed some light on the type of file used I.e double beveled/brand ? Keep the awesome videos coming.
Great show again! Just got a Tshirt of yours on the mail yesterday that the wife got me ...I love it! Anyway,,,, you mentioned going to Tennessee shortly. I have three big oak trees you can practice on, on the way there. Just kidding. Someday I know they will have to be dealt with. Anyway. Keep up the great work and take the time you need to get well. We like seeing you at your best! Keep up the great show and work.....
No shame in using that guide. I use it. Works great on their chain. Get them sharp and helps keen the edge up in between jobs. It just saves time and there is nothing wrong with that man.
Hi Billy, glad to see the arm's better and Ya feeling more yourself... Had Ya given any thought to training the left hand and arm to be better as the right hand is? I switched hands back in '79 where I trained my left hand and arm to do many of the right hand tasks..
Hey bucking I just made the choice to apply to my first arborist company from the farm. I have all the power tool equipment trucking experience and just in the last month I learned to actually file good cuz kf this and same with my axe also rebuilt my first saw. I wanted to custom build my own axe and was wondering where a good place tk syatt is
When you talk about reflecting on times past when you reach 50, just wait until you are in your mid 60s plus, and you have crested the hill and are starting to see the downhill side!
I've got an alaskan mill on my backup saw. Used to have the mill on an old stihl ms180 with a rip chain. Found the rip chain wasn't really faster than crosscut for ripping boards. Made the board surface a bit cleaner, but that's about it. Don't need pretty, just functional aka econo boards. So I just kept the crosscut chain on the saw that replaced the stihl when it died. This way, if my primary (MS261) dies (yeah right) then I can just pull the mill off the backup saw and can crosscut right away.
Good lord you mill with a 261?! My most immense respect. I use an 066 and still find it painfully slow. And you’re correct: all a milling chain does is blunt the side cutter so that it more smoothly passes across your finished surfaces, while the top plate does all the cutting.
@@andrecharlebois705 Even when I’m milling a tiny little 12” log I still want that big powerhead. :):):) Call me impatient: I don’t want to spend 10 minutes on a pass if I can get it done in 2. Regardless, I am not judging or tying to be better than you. Simply remarking on the difference in mindset and equipment from region to region. 😎
You need some “Stihl PS series” 3/8 lo-pro. It’s equivalent to the Stihl RS and the Oregon 70 series. The time that “I” spent in a Stihl catalog showed my unbelieving Stihl dealer that the chain WAS a current/good line of chain. He was kinda mad when I asked him to get me some from the distributor, but he got it. THEN he was in disbelief “even when he saw it”! REALLY!!!! Some folks…things that make you go “hmmmmm”. 😉
Someone please tell me. Is the mcculloch 1-52 a good saw? Ever since I started watching Billy's videos I started wanting an old mcculloch power saw. I came across this 1-52 and bought it but think it needs a carb rebuild since it doesn't idle well. When I start it the idle slowly keeps creeping up higher and higher. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated
Hey Buckin! Just a long time all around fan of the channel, really appreciate watching your videos. I noticed your Vice Grip Garage sign behind your drum set, just wonderin if there's a story of you and Derek meeting up, or maybe I've jumped the gun and there is a future video to watch out for?
I should really try square filing ive never did nothn but round file. I ground my 1st ever chain for my sp81 at Smittys event a few week's ago. I think ima get 1 an give ground chain a go.
Not to “pile on” but your comment on -it’s the filling no matter how big the saw. I run both hand falling and mechanical harvester. It’s the filling. You can have 200 hp behind the chain. It still needs to be sharpened correctly.
RIP. Prayers for Jed. I'm 71. I spend a couple hundred hours a year running a saw cutting firewood and a couple of thousand doing carpentry. That's full time I can't think of anything better than shutting down the chainsaw for a few to look at animal tracks and listening to life in the forest. I think that Jed would probably agree. You only go around once Savor each moment.
Love your videos. Very well said and proper terminology. May I just suggest a small improvement? A sheet of white paper behind those close up shots for ultimate contrast and clarity. Keep up the great vids.
Your filing videos really have helped me cut more efficiently, and I have great confidence in my ability to get the gullet, and throw some wood chips* Thanks Brother!
Hey bud got a question for ya. I just bought a house with a fireplace. Never had one before. Not wanting to buy firewood just yet. Have you ever used a fiskar splitting axe and if so would you recommend it? If not what would be a good splitter to jist keep enough wood around for a normal fireplace that's not used to heat the entire house. Thanks for the feed back
Just tossing in a hearty second to Justin Santapole. The Fiskars splitting axe is the bomb! I've used one for several years now, splitting six to eight cords a year. Get the long (36") handled version.
I'm with ya on Mr jed. Only thru you tube. I'm in freaking MI. But I was sad as could be. It's taking along time Fer me to figure this out. Still working it out. But none the less still very sad. Later. He mentioned you a bit I might add. Again later.
The square grid was actually invented when buckin forgot his round file and only had a flat file ....😁as you can see from this video his resource fullness using a stick to tighten the chain when there was no scrench available
