Handgun Magazines! How many is too many? 

How many magazines do you need? Yes. FYI spring fatigue comes from cycling, not static compression.

I was gifted an M9 by my dad last year, and it had a bunch of GI mags that came with it. If you’re worried about fatigue in the magazines, buy replacement springs. I saved a lot of money that way instead of buying 7 new magazines :)

Spring will not wear out if there loaded not going to hurt. I have had 5.56 and 223 and 9mm mags loaded some for over 10 years and just fired a few last week they are just perfect so saying mags can wear out not true if loaded

I actually have a 1911 45 with a loaded mag in it that my old cousin pass down to me. I had it in an old desk drawer in my barn and believe it was loaded and stored in the drawer for 8 years, it was my “barn gun”. But never really paid attention to it since I always had a firearm on me. I took out the 1911 out the drawer about 8 months ago because my desk started to wear out with the heat of the barn and realized that’s where I stored my “barn gun”. I had the same impression about the spring being weaker due to the time it was compressed fully loaded. And I’ll tell you what, I shot that old desk with the 1911 for the hell of it and I was in complete surprise when I found out that last round held open on that sucker. I’m not sure if the quality of the mag spring was a unicorn but to this day that spring still holds up after being compressed for 8 something years.

I prefer to have at a minimum six magazines per handgun. One in the gun, one for a reload, one for a backup in case I lose one. Then double that and you get six. This imho is sufficient for a little pocket pistol or just something I don't shoot as often. For my little LCP I'm fine with six, for example. If I get really lucky and find some trade in magazines or surplus magazines for anything I own I buy as many as I can IF the magazine isn't regularly available for $25 or less. That's how I got my 220 Magazines (I have about 10 or so 8 rounders and 5 or so 7 rounders) and how I got my P229 magazines (about 15 of those). That's especially important for Sigs because otherwise I couldn't afford those magazines lol. For my "go to war" handgun platform (the Glock 19), I have around 50 various magazines and want more. I keep about 20 of those in "deep storage" for contingency planning. One of the reasons I went with the Glock is even brand new Gen 5 magazines can be found for $20 (although it's probably going to more like $22 now), other handguns' magazines are much more expensive. My rifle platforms (I live in a small place) are limited to the 10/22 and AR-15. I have about ten 10/22 magazines of various sizes, I do wish I had more but I feel like having 7 or 8 of the 10 rounds and as many of the 25 rounds would be enough. AR mags... oooh boy. I have about 50 I keep "in rotation" but only about 10-12 are loaded at any one time. I have a supply of about 90 of them I keep in "deep storage" for contingency planning, and they're a mix of GI style mags, polymer mags, etc. There are stories of magazines being loaded for decades, loaded and fired. The spring is fine as long as it's fully compressed or fully at rest the whole time.

I bought a bunch of magazines because I want to have enough so that I can afford to drop and loose some of them while im reloading running away from something. I bought a bunch of surplus magazines for my Beretta 92 and M9 for just 10$ a pop.

I live in NY also 😪 , and have a vehicle and live with a hour or So drive too Pennsylvania.... so I load 30 in my AR and Full loaded ones in my Glocks 😋👍

I got 8, 8 shot mags for a Sig P220 Legion .45 ACP shortly after getting the firearm. Sure glad I did that because I don't think Sig makes them anymore. They haven't been in stock since late 2019. I emailed Sig and they said some BS about the demand. The fact that NOBODY is selling them means nobody has them to sell. One would think a few would pop up sometime this year on some site, but no. I also humored the knock off brands. ProMag. More like ProGag. Can only get 7 rounds in their 8 round mag. The mag doesn't seat well and is loose. They do lock in and load a round so consider them functional and minus 1 on the capacity.

I got 4 Glock 17 mags for about $90 shipped to me. They were new Glock mags, but they all sold out after I bought them. 7 limit no matter the capacity? I thought our laws were intrusive enough.

I have a minimum of 15 magazines per pistol and with regard to my Glocks I have twice that much. I have several times those numbers for my rifles.

Where did you pick up those 3 round AR mags?

Got the two 12 round mags and one 32 round mag if i need more i made a bad choice. LMFAO

I’m so glad I left that shit state in 2012. Had 38 class E felonies in my gun safe when I left. (Pre ban magazines). Left right before that shit law took effect. Live in Tennessee now and own all kinds of suppressors and standard capacity mags NYS is scared of. Plus Lucky Gunner is one county over so ammo is never a problem

Lol i get 30rd pmags for my ar’s for $10 or maybe $7 if there is a sale. And genuine glock mags for $20 or cheaper even the genuine 33rd mags. Just have to know where to look.
