Make an oil lantern using copper, brass, and a glass bottle.
I show how I make a basic copper pickle solution to clean copper parts and the problems I encounter cutting a glass bottle. I also have an opportunity to raise a copper dish for this project. This is a great decorative metal copper project.

Fine video. Using the fast forward enabled the process to be demonstrated without the viewing becoming labourious... you're an obvious craftsman.. thanks.

Hey, I really like your channel and I'd love to see some more videos. Also I liked the commentary, some of the parts were a bit confusing but the voice over clarified it.

I like to use the salt and vinegar stuff on thick wires that need to be soldered like my welder leads on the ground clamp. Tough stuff
@ThePhool1
@ThePhool1 6 лет назад
You can also use the "Fire" sauce from Taco Bell to clean up that copper and brass. Lots of vinegar in it and if you go there fairly often you can have a good supply. lol Used it on a crap load of old pennies to shine them up like new. Even the old nearly black ones shined up. Plus the sauce smells better than straight vinegar.

now make a pressure lantern! just add a hand pump and replace the wick with an atomizer (like in those oil foundries) and a mantle holder and presto!

When I was in the Navy the easy way to clean up brass drains was to put them in a bucket with unsugerd koolaid. Without sugar it's a acid.

Very nice! As I know nothing about everything, just a question: Is it safe to use glass from a bottle in this application? I've even heard of dedicated tea candle holders (just a base) out of glass pulled from the market since they could "explode".
@ThunderDog
@ThunderDog 8 лет назад
+JWAM Good question and I have no clue. Create and make at your own risk.

you can try a different technique when silver soldering....here's what to do...use plenty of flux more then you have heat piece/pieces until flux starts to bubble THEN apply solder it will wick around the part which will have a stronger hold plus it will look better..
@ThunderDog
@ThunderDog 8 лет назад
+Lawrence Harasim Thanks for watching. I've soldered a fair amount of copper for plumbing, but "jewelry" soldering is not exactly the same. :) I appreciate the feedback.
