Hi there, I'm from the uk and I live a stones throw from my friends farm. They have lots of Jacob sheep and I have to say your fibres look hugely softer than the ones here! I still buy fleeces from them as you can never have enough ...I raise Valais black nose, Ryeland and Suffolk sheep for their different fibres. With the Suffolk and Ryeland I make sweaters, the Jacob I make outerwear and belted items as it belts so well and the Valais blacknose fleeces I sell as the locks are excellent in needle felting, and they take dye SO beautifully! (and that helps pay for the upkeep of the rest of the farm) I hope this helps

The autumn shades shawl will be spectacular. If only my spindle spinning went that well! More practice needed on my behalf I think. Thank you for your podcasts...stuck at home podcasts, spinning, knitting and quilting have been my life saver. Here in the UK things are easing a little but still long stretches at home.

I hope things are getting better and better for you there. The silver lining had been the extra time spinning, knitting and generally stash diving. Stay well!

I think in a different life, we might have been siblings. The way we look at life and the things we appreciate are so similar (fiber arts, flowers, and fluffy animals in addition to the technical aspect of things). Jacob sheep seem very interesting. I'm going to encourage my friend who raises farm animals to keep his eye out for one. Thanks!

Thank you for another really informative episode Lisa. Found your exploration of Jacob fascinating, especially as I have my first fleece to process and it's a Jacob cross. Love how beautifully the shawl you are wearing matched those pretty flowers. A hap in those colours will be lovely

Hi Lisa, hope you're OK. One if the kits i got for Christmas has some Jacob Fleece in it & started Spindling with it. I think its one of the most consistent that ive spun . Theres other breeds in this particular kit. The other kit is Finn sheep fleece. I've not tried that one yet, i just hope that i can get a fairly consistent yarn from that one too. Thankyou for all the inspiration you give us new Spinners as well as the more experienced ones. Thankyou so much for your video/podcasts. Take care & stay safe. Happy Spinning. Love Jen xx

Thanks Lisa! Great information about Jacob fleece. I didn't know anything about lilac Jacob. Jacob is a variety I haven't tried yet, now I want to. Also I have been following Dakota Carding Co on Facebook. Her carded cloud is something I've been wanting to try. Thanks for giving her a thumbs up!

I loved this episode. The Jacob sheep are so interesting. I have never spun their fleece. Presently I am spinning a cormo fleece. So soft. I am knitting a Habitation Throw by Helen Stewart. Her patterns are so well written. I am using my leftover sock yarn. Be safe.... until the next time

Those ranunculous are so lovely. Glad they inspired you to finish your shawl. I have Jacob wool on my list. Waiting for a shipment to arrive with 27 varieties of wool to play with! Definitely being inspired by your podcast! But I may have got carried away, and my hubby gave me a drum carder today, hurrah. I can't wait. As always really enjoyed the podcast. Thanks

I spun Jacob for the first time last year. I bought some that was already prepped from world of wool. It was a DREAM to spin. I spun the singles first by color but then plied for a barber pole. I haven't used it yet but really want to.

Jacob is one of my favorite fibers to work with! I LOVE processing the fleeces. They work great for spinning in the grease and they do extremely well for woolen yarns. The fibers are easy to comb, card, and spin from cloud. Very versatile fleeces

This was a great episode. I just put together an order for some jacob earlier today so this video was really helpful. I love your beautiful floral arrangement and the color coordinated shawl! The flowers look like peonies to me, especially with that foliage and fragrance. Rananculus are shorter plants with very busy foliage. Whatever they are, they're gorgeous. I'll have to do a search and see if they are a variety I haven't seen before. Looking forward to a supported spindle video as I've recently decided to get one and learn how to spin on that.

Enjoyed this episode. I ordered my first raw Jacob fleece this week, it’s very interesting to follow your journey with this in. I have been spinning on a wheel on and off for about 10 years. Still very much a beginner and want to work on my long draw. I started drop spindling last year and find I spin more that way. Next venture is supported spindle so look forward to the next episode. Love that ginger honey fiber!

Hi Lisa, We really enjoyed this ~ what a stunning shawl! ~ and are so happy you're loving our Cold Valley Farm Jacob fleeces! This was Ramona's second shearing (she's since moved on to another farm). Her dam, Carmen, is one of our favorite ewes and favorite fleeces. Mandy is older and is a more aggressive eater, which may contribute to the VM! Many Jacob breeders do coat their animals, but we do not ~ Carl maintains really clean pastures and winter hay feeding methods. We have a wide variety in our flock, including many lilacs, and also many with the primitive characteristics Jacobs are known for. We're still skirting this year's fleeces. We're "ColdValleyFarm" on FB, our website (".com") and on Ravelry; add "@mhtc.net" for email. We love our sheep!

Becky Rehl Thank you Becky. Both fleeces I purchased from you are beautiful! I am carding up Ramona now and plan on a woolen spin for her. Hope to get three gradient shades. I’ll go have a peak at your site. I am very happy with my purchases and really admire all the work you are doing to preserve the breed! Thank you for watching!
