Love it! Would you say it would be possible to manage this drill if you work on it long enough whilst you don’t manage the normal free handstand for longer than 3 seconds? Or would you just recommend focussing on the normal handstand before diving into the pressed handstand?

I've heard people learn press before even balancing in a handstand! I'd say just make sure you have good wrist/arm/shoulder strength (pressing puts more pressure on the wrists compared to the amount used to balance casually in a handstand) so you don't hurt yourself but if you're someone who already has strength in those areas, I'd say work on them in parallel! I built up my wrist strength/flexibility for about 6 months before I started my press drills. I could've perhaps started earlier but again I didn't have much wrist strength and needed to build them up. I didn't want to risk a wrist injury. Hope this helps!!

Hi! Yes sometimes people learn this before hand however majority do not. The strength in your shoulders and back that build up over time when practicing/learning handstands transfers into the strength we need for these presses. My recommendation is learn a handstand before a press.

Michaela how did you build up your wrist strength? I struggle with that (even though I’m a former gymnast)

Thank you so much!! I decided to try to get a handstand since it was a physical goal I could accomplish while in quarantine and I found this series shortly after. I have made so much progress and consistently feel myself get better every day!

Love how honest and up front you are about these skills and that they take time to master and get down. So many people out there who dont even mention that it takes time and it's not something you have down in one go. What are your thoughts on Calisthenics training v weight (pros/cons/ is one better than the other)?
@MorganRoseMoroney
@MorganRoseMoroney 4 года назад
Definitely! There is no magic pill, its all about hard work and consistency with training over time.
@MorganRoseMoroney
@MorganRoseMoroney 4 года назад
I think both calisthenics and weight training are great for the body! Both have pro's that help with your overall health/strength. I mix up both in my weekly training schedule.

Hey! I think you are genuinely an amazing lassie and absolutely love your content! wanted to ask you a bit of an advice if you had time ☺️.. I both have the sides over splits when I’m on the ground, but when I do a split handstand it’s like my legs can’t fully open/split properly 🤔at least not in the same way they do when I am on the ground! Any suggestions/ or perhaps drills that could help me to get my legs fully open when I’m doing a split handstand? 😅

Update: I did all of the drills from this video with recommended reps. Whoa!! Even though I have been doing handstands for almost a year now, I woke up this morning with very sore shoulders, intercostal muscles and hip flexors like nothing I have ever felt before! I tried to do them again today but failed miserably. 😭 How often do you recommend doing these drills and practicing straddle press to handstand? Do you do them daily? Thank you 🙏🏻 😊
@MorganRoseMoroney
@MorganRoseMoroney 4 года назад
The more you do them the more your body will become used to these drills and strength exercises. Do them 3/4 times a week with rest days and stretching days in between where needed :)
@francineperreault9373

Morgan Rose Moroney Thank you Morgan. I’ve been doing the drills daily and practicing the straddle press to HS since I last posted. I can feel myself getting stronger and feeling the movements becoming more natural. However, my hip flexors are not adapting like the rest of my body. They are extremely painful which limits my mobility. I power through , but they have progressively gotten worse over the course of the last 5 days. Stretching them is excruciating and only makes them feel worse. Have you ever experienced this, or maybe some of your clients have? Can you offer some advice please? I have scoured the web to try to find a solution but there a differing opinions: some say stretch them and some say don’t stretch them ...🤷🏻‍♀️😭 Thank you 🙏🏻

Love you so much Morgan ❤️ Thanks for all the great content you put out for us. Is it easier to do handstands on blocks/chalks or would you only recommend this for people who are more advanced?
@MorganRoseMoroney
@MorganRoseMoroney 4 года назад
I would recommend to learn on the flat floor and then when you progress to then venture onto blocks.

I am currently working on my handstand and it went really well...until my wrists hurt soo bad that I couldn’t even find a position to sleep. I tried it 2 days later and the pain came back. Now I am forced to take a break bc of the pain that will come again. Any tips? Would you consider it normal in the beginning? Thanks for your video! ❤️

Thank you so much for posting such a detailed video! So many helpful drills, tips and cues. You are an amazing teacher. What if you have super short arms? Morgan, You have wonderful proportions. Unfortunately, I do not. When I fold forward and try to rock so that my hips are directly above my shoulders, my feet don’t ever leave the ground until my hips are well over and beyond my shoulders and I land flat on my back 😪. I have the same issues with jump throughs in my yoga practice. No matter which version, straight leg or tucked, my feet or knees hit the ground and bring me to a halt. I envy long arms lol. Much love ❤️

Hey morgan it was so nice. I started doing the exercises of episode 1,2 and split but I have little physical flexibility. How long should i practice these exercises to increase my flexibility? Btw thank you so much beauty 🥰♥️
@MorganRoseMoroney
@MorganRoseMoroney 4 года назад
Flexibility makes it much easier to master this skill, however it is not needed. I recommend stretching everyday! But doing these exercises 3-4 times a week is good.
