This whole time I’ve been replacing fill valves and flappers for $35. And drawer guides for $15. No wonder why I’m no longer in business lol.

I showed my wife how to change the brake discs and shoes on the truck. Her response... "Thats it? That was easy!" Then I told her to call her favorite garage and ask how much it would be. So she did and came unglued at what they were going to charge her. After that we started fixing things ourselves like I wanted to do in the first place. Most of the things that break around the house you can watch a RU-vid video and learn how to fix. You've got a great gig, bro. Keep on making that money. Also those cookie cutter houses aren't worth 1/2 the price they charge new owners.

Good for you bro! I do similar projects on my free time. Amazes me how many home owners can't comprehend a little common sense or even motivation. I do mostly Staining and that primarily only consists of motivation,5% skill. People don't want to do shit anymore. Pay us baby. We HUNGRY! Keep it up man. I love it. No complaints. PS to the comment on not putting a new door key into the handle. They obviously didn't want it. We only do what we're told to do.

You described just about every new neighborhood built in Southern California. Where I live in Corona, every neighborhood is built just like that one... 4 plans, 3 elevations each... HOA has the palette of colors permitted, etc... all built with the cheapest materials... with a Home Depot and Lowes right down the street. A handyman's paradise LOL.

Ha, literally just had the ice maker line split on our fridge 3 hours ago while my wife was pulling it out to clean! After a few gallons sprayed all over the kitchen she got is pinched off (I was at home depot!). I did what you suggested to the owner and replaced the entire line. I used a braided stainless kit that was a whopping $3 more than the silly poly line! Why people, why?! Enjoyed seeing someone working other than me today! haha Thanks for the video brother. Cheers.

Fellow Handyman here. Good way to go about your business. I concur that the customer only wants to know the bottom line. Some are willing to pay by the hour others just want know how much to write the check for. I'm also amazed at how many seemingly "SIMPLE" jobs are so over the head of many people. I will subscribe and thank you for standing up for all of your fellow Handymen out here.

I have had a handyman business for about 6 years now. It's a good hustle and it's as good as you make it. I keep my schedule at about medium capacity so as not to get burned out but I like the challenges and finally am making what I'm worth. Great video.

Focus on describing more of what the jobs are at each job site along with short and simple how to’s combined with your personality i think this channel has some great potential. Keep it up

My toilet has one of those types of flusher mechanisms. Very functional, except for the time that the tube came out of that pipe and started spraying water all over my bathroom after I flushed it... in hindsight I probably should have shut off the water before I took the lid off, but panic makes you do awesome things.

ALWAYS replace the supply line from the shut off to stainless if poly reinforced plastic. This part has the same water and water shock passing through the rebuild kit. Its great insurance at $9 and billed back to the customer. One water insurance claim is devastating can cancel your insurance. The existing gasket is the weakest point and conformed to the previous tower. Sleep better at night.

I use a canvas drop cloth on every single job. It’s a good practice and will convey a certain level of professionalism. It takes away some of the homeowners concerns and they can see that i care about their property and that I pay attention to details. It’s a great space to lay out my tools and create some of ‘my space’ that people, kids and pets usually stay away from. It’s all about exceeding the owners expectations. Even if the floor is dirty already... sometimes the tarp keeps me off of their dirt!

Congratulations body, way to go! I'm happy for you, I'm a contractor with 20 yrs experience in remodeling and it's so hard for me to make $1000 a day. But watching your video make me realize that the small jobs some time can be more profitable than the big jobs and I'm glad that you find a way, I wish you the best, I may consider following your steps. As a tip... check on investing some of your hard working dollars on your retirement... Roth IRA or SEP from vanguard retirement plans are great to build wealth.

I once drove across town, about 45 min one way because a guy called and said the power in his kitchen went out. The toaster, coffee maker, micro, etc stopped working. I went in there and pushed the reset button on the GFCI plug, and in an instant, I was a superhero to them. They paid me $200 for that. A lot of men nowadays have no clue HOW to be men, they're too busy getting their nails done and massaging their feet

I think it’s a good idea to do these kinds of videos from time to time. I like your demographic target approach. The best customers are those who make good money, don’t have a clue how to do basic repairs, and perhaps most importantly, VALUE the fact that you can be counted upon to look after the problem. Nothing wrong with that.

I started helping my grandpa at 14 when we decided to start posting handyman ads. He was bored at home so we started doing random jobs for fun. We started using hand saws to cut everything and now im 22 and weve had to build 2 sheds to house all our tools now. Its great knowing all the little details of a house and appreciating the work and knowing weve been able to provide quality work since many of our calls are referrals.

Being a handyman is great and all, just make sure you have liability insurance. Do some work on a toilet and it leaks while the homeowner is away all day and causes 15k in damages, that 1k wont mean shit lol

I've been in the home repair/maintenance/remodeling business for 30+ years. Some days are all easy calls. Some days you're in attics at 165° in summertime Texas. Its a great way to make a living. Everyday is different. You should add gloves to your toolbag. I'm wondering why you didn't replace the handle on the toilet since it was almost completely corroded away and likely to break at any time and the old supply line which was hard and kinked?

I like daily grind videos and projects. I'm not really a fan of projects split up into 3 or 4 videos. 2 parts is ok.

Where I live in Ohio, we don’t have many rental homes controlled by property management companies. What I encounter all the time is rentals owned by private owners who think that the handyman and every trade should be working for $20/hr. That’s why when someone asks me to quote work on their rentals, I just tell them I don’t work in income property. They want "get by" work, and they want it cheap. You’re fortunate to have a clientall that pays $200 for a ten minute job. That just doesn’t cut it where I’m from. Also, I never quote work by the hour, just a flat rate by the job. I charge $85/hr, but the customer never knows that. All they care about is that $350 fits their budget...even though it’s done in a couple of hours. I should add that I’m retired now, and just do this to cover the cost of my expensive hobbies and Florida vacations in the winter. Best of luck to you!

I can’t believe the homeowner didn’t want to have you install a new latch. If you’re like me, most days you feel like a genius compared to some customers. I have a handyman business, and I would have just installed the new latch, because eventually someone who knows as much as you will visit this home and ask why the latch wasn’t replaced when the deadbolt was tightened up. I don’t give them the option to get cheap. The homeowner will NEVER admit that he told you to just leave it out, and you will end up on someone’s list of "don’t hire this guy." This happened to me early in my career, and after that I just do what is right and bill them accordingly. If the customer tells me to do something that I know is not right, I tell them to call someone else to do their work. A solid reputation is hard to establish, but a bad name spreads like wildfire. JMHO after 40+ years of being a contractor. I walk away from jobs that will tarnish my name, because it’s not worth the bad press. The money will,always come if you do the right thing, instead of listening to an uneducated or cheap customer just to make a paycheck. Anyone can do that.

$200 labor fee just to fix a lock set on a door seems a little steep, however, just yesterday I was offered $250 to caulk the top lip of about a four feet stretch of a gutter that was against the fascia of a house, and to spray one can of Flex Seal on some roof shingles, and that entire job only took me approximately one hour to complete. So, you never know. I guess it's worth to the customer, what It's worth to the customer!

All you have to do is put a few drops of food coloring in the water tank and you can tell if it’s leaking, it will seep into the bowel

Myself a cabinetmaker for 55 years, and an eye for detail, i couldn't help notice, that the drawer runners you cut down, are designed to fit "flat" to the side of a cabinet, and wouldn't worked, in that situation, unless a packer was fitted to the side of the cabinet, (L&R) flush with the surface of the front vertical cleat . The original runners, taken off, were designed, so they could be brought out at the back, for the drawer to run true. Why is it, we still see, (in the final clip of drawer function test,) the old original runners, with the return at the back. Having said that, If it was only the top drawer runners you replaced, maybe you should have included, in your video, the fitting of the packers, (left and right) to make those particular runners work !

I would never use that plastic water line. I’ve seen so many leaks where they rub against where they penatrate the floor or wall. Only use copper and like you said leave a few loops so you can pull the thing out and service it.

I have run a commercial handyman business for the past 12 years and have been doing for over 25 years. I do not step in a place without charging $100.00, if I work or not. I call it the $100.00 handshake. I take care of retail properties only. Very few of us exist. Most think they can do commercial but it takes time to really know buildings. Keep up the great work!
