Whenever you are dealing with a stoppage if you have two clean outs that are both showing water you always want to run the snake through the cleanout closet to the city sewer , it will save time by having to run a lot of footage of cable
@thehandymanexperience226
@thehandymanexperience226 7 месяцев назад
I was thinking that bit I was thinking what if there was roots going closer to the house which I was right but yea I had to go both ways
@munsters2
@munsters2 7 месяцев назад
TIP: If you are snaking through PVC, before you start the snake into the pipe, first install a (temporary) pipe nipple (preferably steel), otherwise you run the risk of buggering up the threads or grinding a hole through the PVC adapter.

At the end of the day you’re still a handyman not a sewer rat, most homeowners with clogged drains will call a plumber or rotor rooter not a handyman. Guess you get these jobs because the property managements rather pay your fees vs a plumber so I do agree with you keeping snakes and tools to a practical size. After all you wouldn’t show up with a 3hp Delta table saw to install a few shelves in a closet 😅

Always check the cleanouts 1st thing. And some plumbers dont glue those caps so if you want to cut the pipe down further you can easily. Then just pop the cap back on, no need to glue. And if the sewer line ever backs up , the cap will pop off and have sewer come out in the yard. You wasted all that time at the cleanout by the house. If the one by the street was holding water that means the clog was out towards street more. Just a tip here so you dont get snagged by that big cable. You always keep one hand on the cable close to the machine and feed the cable with the other
@thehandymanexperience226
@thehandymanexperience226 7 месяцев назад
Thanks that's a good idea with feeding I'll have to try I don't want to get hurt. I was wondering y it wasn't glued. I hit the furthest line cus I wanted it to get done quicker but we all figured out that didn't help out. I wanted to get the roots closest to the house and get the main clog. Silly me.

@thehandymanexperience226 I'm not judging at all man. I've watched your videos and I have no doubt you are smart and skilled in multiple trades. Just giving a little advice from an old master plumber that owns a company and strictly does drains and propert managment company service plumbing. You hold the cable that way so you can feel it tense up and get stiff. That means its getting snagged and you need to back up and go slow. Listen to that cable knoocking, if you hear the sound of the knocking start to delay or slow down rotations, pull back. Only way to learn this shit is through trial and error in the field. You're getting the experience. Good shit man. Love the videos bud.

Holly smokes that was a major league clog.... 😮.... I had issues like that back in the days when I used to live in Chicago.......terracotta pipes under maple trees were a nightmare. Greetings from Florida 🌴 in FL I dug up orangeburg pipes.... Now that is worse than terracotta.... Orangeburg pipes are bitumen impregnated paper. After 60 years underground they just collapsed every 6 feet..... Was a hell of dig to replace those....

try and not use the auto feed to bring back the cable. it causes the cable to wind up in the drum and its hard to feed the cable back out. bring the cable back with your hands and feed it back into the drum.

What this job is missing: Higher speed machine Higher torque machine More controllable machine More head selections on hand Ridgid 7/8” x 15’ Sectional cables (inner core preferred) Ridgid 61718 Trident Cable Decoupler (something very special which nobody seems to know about) I think I just described the Ridgid K-60 - a drain clearing/cleaning beast that you would never regret having on your truck. I realize you are a handyman, and not a plumber, but, from what I have seen, you are good with plumbing and you have a pretty good grasp on the basics of drain clearing. You will make more money if you are in a position to charge what you should be charging to clear drains, so you might as well get the best equipment you can to make your job easier, quicker and much more profitable while, at the same time, giving your customers added value with a better finished product.

Whenever you get roots advise the homeowner to either get rid of the tree or tell them to put a shit load of rock salt every year. salt kills roots.

First of all get a leader for your cable. It takes the jolt from hitting anything so you have a shock absorber and they help with elbows so you don't kink your cable. Second get a nose guide for the machine so you're not always grabbing the cable. Some jobs I hardly touch the cable. I have a general Maxi 101 wich is heavy but does rhe job. Act like your machine is a drill and let it eat. Don't force into a clog. Patient and if the cable doesn't move forward at all after a few minutes there's either a collapsed pipe or something that needs to dug up. Not worth wrecking tour cable. Closest clean out to the street thats full of water is where I start. Best of all tell the homeowner you'll talk to him after the job so you can concentrate. Best thing about the sectional machines are you can stop the spin immediately so you can have more control. The drums need a brake system because they rotate three to four times after you let off the pedal. I know i wrote a book but there's a lot to drum machines, it's all about feel. Get a bucket seat and take your time. Good luck Sir. And you can take a one inch copper pipe flatten one end and put a curve on it to guide your cable into a tee to make it go one way or the other.

Need to watch this guy NYDRAINS ,start small and work to bigger cutters,. When you hit something go slow and or sit on it a while . Roots and broken pipes are the worst , you right on not forcing it .
@thehandymanexperience226

Yea it's definitely easier with the drum now I got a sectional and it's going to be more time consuming from going to smaller to bigger cutters but I know of I don't I could get in trouble.

Take off that hoodie, don’t want those strings wrapped on that cable, can hurt you seriously, be safe out there, coming from a plumber, an get that cable at the furthest cleanout, , furthest cleanout holding water, means stoppage up further

Copper sulfate down the drains flushed down the toilets will kill roots especially in the spring when the trees are putting out roots as a preventative measure after clearing the sewer line. May not be legal in your state?

Drain cleaning is one of my favorite parts of plumbing. You should sale the k750 and buy you the k60. The good thing about the k60 is you can clear kitchen lines with the 5/8 cable or sewer lines with the 7/8. Trust me once you get used to sectional machines you won’t go back. Sectional is the way to go
@thehandymanexperience226
@thehandymanexperience226 7 месяцев назад
I ended up going to the Milwaukee sectional but the k60 was my second choice and I could use a 5/8 cable. I just don't know how that will go down a sink drain lol
@tannerwest6823
@tannerwest6823 7 месяцев назад
@@thehandymanexperience226 the 5/8 cable will go down kitchen drain lines and washing machine drain lines just fine man. That’s all I use for those 2 instances. And it’s nice because you can change the heads out between bulb, drop head, funnel head, spade, c cutter, retrieving hook, etc. all kinds of options. I usually just keep the drop head on it

Two outside clean outs? 🤔 Looks like a crappy sewer line from the start? Even if you only use the tool occasionally, the large snake is good to own for your business.
