In areas of mostly rocks with few trees, anchoring into rock is a nice way to hang a hammock. In this video I use one of our HD Ponchos in hammock mode and I drill in anchor bolts and climbing anchors to secure my hammock suspension. Works really well. I note some tips also about our gear. Gear used was an HD Poncho which is 500d Cordura nylon and printed in ATACS iX camo, optional Quick Connects were installed at time of manufacture, also included the woven daisy chain webbing with toggle, 3/8 x 3” anchor bolts, and stainless steel anchor points. I intend to camp here a number of times in my explorations of the area, so this tiny bit of extra work is well worth it.
Our gear is all made in USA.

My HD Poncho A-TACS iX is one of my favourite items, I bring it even when the sun is shining because you never know when you will find that perfect hammock spot or view.

Great to see you Perry! Thanks for the ideas. My HD poncho in ATACS was my first piece of your gear. I do love it. Is it heavy, yes. Does it take up room in my pack? Yes. But being able to throw it down on a gravel bar by the river or over some brush with out worrying about punctures, it is worth it.

Nice to see you Perry good set up hope all well great bolt set up for anchor maybe though a strap around bolder for pureist but I understand I was bottom belay for a couple climbers that red pointed and set belay points 30 to 40yrs ago so we'd climb and set arrest points for pro Tha thousands have climbed and used since then. Sandstone rocks. Looks fun any problems with animals cougars or scorpions or snakes even ants? Course you're not there enough to build pheromone trail. Looks nice I'm 6ft 4in I sleep 6ft 7 or 8inches feet length I need to be up higher for Gophers ticks and coyotes they rome cougar are active I don't know if I'd dare use hammock around here bear too there are 9 cougars her and bears same number more when cubs or kits are born I'm afraid I might have nighttime run in if I hammocked below 11 ft that's nothing for o mountain lion around here.

My video previous to this one shows going around a boulder with an AmSteelBlue cord, (ie. AmSteelBlue w eye, or Dyneema w eye) For where I was at for this one that wasn’t an option, and I wanted to do anchors anyway. I would never do it in a campground or campsite, but remote like this was, it is likely no one will ever see them. I don’t worry about the animals much, I can’t or I couldn’t camp most of where I go. I’ve woke up in the morning with Coyote tracks all through camp, even under my hammock sometimes, haha, but never knew they were there. I’ve hung my hammock on trees with fresh bear claw marks and in areas where I’ve observed bears. There was a time when I worried, but I just decided I can’t do that and enjoy myself. Granted I try not to do things to attract or invite problems. I’ve slept on the ground at times and found mice in there with me in the morning, pretty rare though. Take care man - Perry

No drill needed. I can do it with my knife😂 All kidding aside, TERRIFIC idea Perry! I now live where there are no trees. But there are a few rocks/boulders. I might , could make it work.

Hey I love the channel but you've never actually shown the waterproofness of these ponchos. That's one of my main concerns before I get one, I'm just not sure how good the HD is as a waterproof shelter/poncho

Awesome video but is there anyway you know to do this without bringing an impact gun with you?
