Dime is an amazing guitarist in his own right, but I don't know that I would like to image Dimebag's playing style with Megadeth. It's a different sound. Marty Friedman was a good fit for Megadeth.
The cool thing about Marty and Dave was the Love /Hate Guitar Meter. "Go To Hell" is a good example of this. Marty's fluid playing is very skewed to the Love side of the meter, While Dave's aggressive, abrasive style clings to the far end of the Hate side of the meter. It was Yin and Yang. Dimebag however, was more of a middle-of-the meter guitarist; Love and hate combined in his guitar style. That's what made Dime so awesome. Having heard Rust In Peace, I don't think Dime's contribution would've been a good fit for Megadeth. Dime would've had to choke it back a little, and Dimebag Darrell was NOT a choke-it-back-a-little guitarist. BTW I got the Love/Hate thing off of an article about Dave and Marty from an issue of Guitar World 1990. I thought the article hit the nail on the head when describing the Rust In Peace style and sound.
Great!! The bends and the whammy abuse are super legit dime. I’m not sure why so many people are being critical. I guess lock down gives people too much time. Great job guys!
I agree dude, I don't like that much the idea of Dime in Megadeth though. He is fire, Dave's playing is fire too and he nedeed ice to equilibrate his music.
I'm good with what actually happened as with Dave being fired from Metallica it gave us two great bands to listen to. So imagine if Dave hadn't been fired there'd be no Megadeth, if Dime and Vinny joined Megadeth , no Pantera as we know it just the glam rock version before Phil joined. Things happen for reasons .
@Patrick G Would've liked to imagine how Jeff would've been with Megadeth since it was after Alice In Hell and before Never Neverland. Stylistically, I could see it work for a few albums. Alas, was not to be.
@@cristianlopez_8486 I think Friedman was ultimately better since he had a unique style (sorta like Chris Poland). Waters has a style more comparable to Mustaine so it wouldn't have been as interesting hearing them exchange solos. This is not to say Waters is better or worse, he is as good as anyone. This is my opinion.
@@iamgribs Fair enough. Though Waters' style was more reminiscent of EVH than Mustaine if you dissect his playing. He just jacks up the speed and complexity of his leads significantly, so maybe that's where I can see the comparison.
@Patrick G And on another note, if Waters did join Megadeth, I probably wouldn't see his tenure lasting as long as Friedman in all honesty. Maybe till Countdown or Youthanasia at the absolute latest (mainly due to Jeff going through a period of alcoholism at this time and trying to get sober).
well, it's unlikely dime would had last too long in megadeth since dave mustaine would never allowed someone with dime's huge personality in his band. But it's true also the reverse... likely dime and vinnie paul would have dropped dave mustaine after just few weeks due his behaviour.
@@BrokenWingsOfADreamlessMind cause idiots think Chris wrote anything at.all in nevermore. He only toured for nevermore he never contributed anything to the writing. Jeff Loomis wrote everything and its abundantly clear.
Holy Mother Of God!!!! I approve and so do the metal Gods. I saw Megadeth perform this in the Diamond Ballroom in OKC back in 1990's. I had a blast!!!! The A/C was out, we were assholes to elbows, the staff was throwing beer on us to keep us cool; came out smelling like a brewery. If we got pulled over by the cops, we would have been screwed. This is one of my favorite Megadeth songs.
Awesome job Brothers! How about a collaboration between the styles of Mustaine and Jeff Waters (who Mustaine also asked to join Megadeth at one stage). Keep on thrashing brothers!
Is it weird to think of dime would have joined so would have Vinnie and Nick would be out. Nick's interest in the supernatural is what led to hangar 18. We might not have even got this amazing song 😬😬😬. Great work guys!
Just realized I didn't have notifications turned on for Achokarlos. Guy is a player, pretty sure I took a skype lesson from him almost a decade ago...man how the time flies
Imo...Dime joining Megadeth would have been too confining for him has a guitarist and musician...Dave's rhythm style is primarily about tight precise uniformed riffs, without improvised bends, tremelo dive bombs, and those squeals that Dime's style is known and loved for...Dime's rhythm style is tight and precise as well, but in his own way. He's like a heavier hot rodded EVH clone along with other influences and his own thing happenin too, of course... Most bands with single guitarist in them are excellent rhythm and lead players, and in Dime's case he was was fucking superb at both...Having another guitarist playing along with him would've just clashed and got in his way, and for me that's what I'm kind of hearing here... These guys both killed it in their performances and I get that it was just a fun thing for them to get together and do...But those 2 styles just do not work well together, to me...Besides, the world deserved to have both the Megadeth and PanterA bands added to the Metal music fabric of the universe! I sure as hell appreciate both of their contributions. .
Well said. I'd agree. I think Dime style was pretty out there and was its own thing. That's not to say this video here sounds bad, but working within the confines of a Megadeth song wouldn't let him show the full scope of what he could do.
This is incredible. Your economic and clean style mixed with Achokarlos is as close as we could imagine. Awesome stuff - don't be afraid to complete the album!
@LambChopper678 ...YES! ...I have also found an instrument pretty much along the lines of what I was trying to do, and i haven't had the time, or let me rephrase, I haven't yet devoted my time necessary to fully check it out... (and I gotta tell ya, that as soon as I saw this thing, and realized it's potential, I bought myself one IMMEDIATELY, however there are many tests that STILL need to be done, (and all of the firmware updates, that comes with a new product, don't help either...) ...and right away, I noticed that there were some hardware issues that could use some "improvement", so I took the whole thing apart, and got my DREMEL GRINDER tool out, and "grinded" a few things down, in order to improve the areas where the optical pickups go into the body, to detect each strings individual vibrations, ...there are separate optical gaps were each individual pick ups go into the body, that i believe are a little too small, (and most notably, for aggressive playing styles, because you will get constant buzzing sounds coming from around the edges each hole where every optical pickup sensor is mounted, especially when you really dig in, and play it "too" hard) ...so I ground them all out, and made them a little bigger, and wider, to allow for more room to accommodate a wider range of aggressive playing styles... and now hopefully, it should perform a lot better... BUT... I currently, still have yet to put it all back together... ...i have had several recent life setbacks with my mother dying, funeral, family drama, and now, have been going through a MAJOR DEPRESSION... HOWEVER... ...seeing your wonderful video, is an inspiration, that is for sure, it somehow has even inspired me enough to write this stupid, long ass, ridiculous post, ...and it feels good to pull myself out of the rut that I'm in, (at least for a little while) ...to witness the "outside of the box", with such creative wisdom, is quite a blessing, indeed! ...on the bright side, this thing possibly has the potential to kick enough ass to produce: !!!SYNTH METAL!!! ...and it's called: "JAMMY GUITAR" ...I don't know if this is the same thing that you are talking about or not, but if it's not, then by all means, let me know what OTHER wonderful things that I might be missing out on! ...cheers!!!
Cool concept. You both did a great job... Lambchop nailed Dave's tone to a fucking T and at times "dimebag" gets pretty damn close to the tone of the real thing. Also think it was smart to leave off the vocals Overall cool video, thumbs up. As cool as this is, just imagine if the real thing actually had happened....
My personal opinion, it would’ve been really cool, but I’m glad it went the way it did and we had pantera and Megadeth with Marty. Marty is my personal favorite guitarist and his work on rust is still unparalleled IMO. But I don’t think dime would’ve been as bad a fit as everyone else.
This is fun. I do think though that his style would probably have stayed closer to the more Randy Rhoads influenced stuff he was doing in the 80s had he teamed up with Mustaine. Fun to think about anyway
Dime was full of musical ideas and he was old school in the vein of evh, he had swing. He would have offered quite a bit more than just fast runs and trem bar wankery. Not to say he would have not also played fast runs and tap-harmonic-trem-bar-wankery.
Great flares in the breaks, but Dime really shined in the open space of a 1 guitar band and the often slowed down sections where his blues-shred could blend across speeds from fast shred to slow wahling and bends. Just not possible in Megadeth's main licks
Not sure that's what Dimes solos would've sounded like on hanger 18... but achokarlos rocks🌲🔥💨🤘🐴 I would title it Hanger 18 with improvised Dime style solos🖖👽
He honestly nailed it, yeah I agree Marty's style sounds much better for the band's vibe but achokarlos did Dime's style justice. Pretty sure it would have sounded real close to this. Great job man
Hindsight is 20/20. If Dime was the guitarist for Megadeth, it would be the norm. But, thankfully Marty did grace Megadeth with his playing and Dime become a legend in Pantera.
Dime probably would've used the Digtech Whammy on the main riff to shift the high note up 1 or 2 octaves. Probably weird pitch-shift effects for the harmony parts as well.
Absolutely fkucking incredible. I am standing here on my feet applauding. Outstanding job gents! No Zakk needed for a Pantera tribute reunion. Get these guys and it'll be done right.
Not sure if that's how we would have played but i can def hear his style and as a loyal Megadeth fan, i can honestly say that i don't like it one bit. Everything that makes that song great is disposed of. Sorry but thanks but no thanks.
Another excellent video! ...it just sounds so damn cool, like an addictive drug of some sort, which means that now, I gotta have MORE!!! i wanna see another one from R.I.P. to give me the medicine that I need to be "cured" or else, I just might go into withdrawals!!!
Awesome to think what might have been. If he had joined the band Nick wouldn't have been the drummer, Vinnie would have been. That in itself would have drastically changed the bands sound as well. I don't think it would have worked out in the long run. Different personalities, different directions in music. Megadeth went more commercial as the 90's progressed, and Pantera got heavier. It would have been awesome while it lasted though.
Great job guys! "Dime's" lead style actually reminds me of a lot of Dave's riff style - very nasty with attitude. I'm glad Marty was around for this era though. His melodic leads really complimented Dave's songwriting.
