Hangkai 3.5 / 3.6 outboard motor on an Alumacraft 10' Jon boat. The engine is freshly broken in. First 2 hours were done in 20 minute heat cycles. Top speed is 5.5 mph according to the garmin. This is a great budget combo for a shallow water/back water/no boat ramp rig.

Anyone watching this and considering buying the Hangkai - don’t. Find a used name brand motor. The Hangkai is inexpensive, but you’re getting something that won’t last. It’s slow, hard to start, and very loud. Even with the exhaust modified to exit 100% underwater like in this video it’s earplug loud. For a couple hundred extra dollars I found a used 5hp Mercury that pushes this boat 16 mph.

Yea fund a used 3 horse name brand . They want 600-900 for a used one I saw a 5 hp mercury on Facebook marketplace yesterday for $1100 most people don’t have that .

@@Budget.bass.fishingI agree things are way too expensive. I paid $800 for my 2018 5hp merc. Found my 2004 15hp 2stroke for $600 (needed a pulse pump). But if you're looking for something inexpensive that will get you on plane check the mudskipper twister clone sold on Amazon. Less that $200 with shipping. Add a $100 Predator 212 from harbor freight, and a couple 2 blade mudskipper props ($15 each).

I just bought two of these used from a guy on marketplace. I got a 10ft jon boat and needed an outboard, but I'm broke so i offered the guy $40 and he took it. I've been digging into them for the last month and i did get both running, but I'm not impressed. One very interesting thing is that although these are marketed as a 3.5 or 3.6hp, one of the motors i got has decals that say 2.2hp, which is much more believable. The Chinese companies are just lying to sell more of these. Anyway it and every time i start these something breaks. The pull start alone(which was brand new) has broken in the different ways. It's ridiculous. And yes, these are stupid loud for how small they are, and they vibrate more than any engine I've owned. If i paid $200+ for one I'd be super pissed. Good vid though, i can't wait to get my boat out on Beaver Lake, assuming the AGFC let's me register it. It's from 1964 and doesn't have a HIN. They're supposed to be able to issue those, but the lady on the phone told me i needed the old registration. Pretty sure she's wrong but good luck arguing with govt employees.

@@TheDuke539 I did take my boat out on its maiden voyage. Took my nephews fishing on Beaver Lake. Even with three of us(about 360lbs) and our gear the little motor pushed the boat better than I expected. It got me wondering what kind of performance I could get out of it, and after doing research I found out this engine is a Mitsubishi TL52 clone. They are usually used on string trimmers and tillers in air-cooled form, but interestingly they are also used on some Goped style scooters. And there are performance parts. One guy got his little scooter going 48mph with this engine. So now I know how to get replacement parts, and that there is some performance potential. But one other interesting detail is that it looks like this engine uses a common clutch and 4 bolt pattern, so it might be possible to easily swap a better engine(like a Goped GSR) onto the lower unit

@@thornyturtleranch6152I’ve only seen regular snappers in village creek, not to say they aren’t there. Did see one about a mile up the black river though.
