Only hank could sing those blues and make a woman fall in love with him right then and there. This is one of my favorite performances of all time. Country royalty.
She never pushed herself too much and preferred the company of her family or singing duets with others. Waylon Jennings and Hank Snow both had the good sense to record some songs with her, Her angelic voice blended well with the gruff tones of Hank Snow.
I think most everyone has had the kind of experience that Hank wrote about in this song. That's why his music is so wonderful -- it tugs at the hearts of the people who listen to it.
I am a 55 year-old, 3rd generation Texican (or Tejana) & my parents were born in Marlin, Tx & Melvin, Tx. My parents would listen to country music all my life and growing up. My mother knew the music of Hank, Gene Autrey, Willie Nelson etc. My father, fell in love with Mariachi music @ the time I was born & became one. He would practice his music on his guitarrón & play on his guitar & when he did, he would sing an array of Hank Williams & other country artist's music. My 2 bros., all 3 of us are musicians too. We knew Country Music, before we learned Tejano music! My father passed away @ 50 when I was 23, but I feel he's still here with me especially, when I hear Hank Williams sing. 😢
I remember when I was a teenager I thought country music was a goofy twangy joke. I'm turning 60 this year and I've finally realised how powerful Hank's music is - and that's not even in a historical context! There are so many lines that literally give me goose bumps! No deep metaphors, no flowery adjectives just emotional pow pow pow! It's a rare gift to be able to write so simply but so powerfully - sorry Hank, I truly feel remorse for my adolescent disregard!
Ditto on the turning 60... in August. But I come from the other end of the spectrum. I was born and raised in Bakersfield, Ca with Buck Owens, Merle Haggard and Bonnie Owens. There was a place called The Blackboard on North Chester Ave. I think it was. Another place was called The Lucky Spot on Edison Hwy. They both had drinkin', dancin' and live country music. When I was born my folks lived in a little house back behind The Lucky Spot. They're all gone now. Buck built a big and very nice place called The Crystal Palace where they have drinkin', dancin', live music and really, really, I mean really good food.
Just discovered this video. The words could have been written for how I feel today. Thank you to whoever put this video together. Thank you to the great Hank Williams who captured the emotions of human relationships and life so deeply and perfectly in his song writing.
I think it's also fair to say the Carters are the ultimate legends. There would be no country music, were it not for Anita Carter's mother, Maybelle, her aunt Sara, and uncle A.P. Carter. It was really Anita and her sisters that really brought country music and western music together on their shows.
When Hank sings a song he puts something into it that you just can't lay your finger on. The Carter family was an Icon in country music and to see Hank sing with the best of the Carter family was watching a duet that was a great duet not just a good one. Hank could do his songs and other songs better than anyone I have heard. I hate to see others mess with Hanks songs.
Just about anything else is mediocre when compared to these incomparable talents. Astral brightness and perfect clarity in the blending of their voices.
Anita Carter is awesome and this song and together with the legendary Hank Williams this duet performance is awesome This is the greatest 2 minutes in Country Music history and the best video on the internet bar none! imho !This was Hank Williams only duet on camera and he passed away 8 months later.
@@ITILII Agreed on all six. Don't forget Leonard Cohen though. Also Fred Rose: As a publishing exec Rose helped his songwriters (including Hank) get a lot of their material into shape for the studio (including Hank) and took NO credit for his contribution but it's likely he did the real work on some of the hits we love.
I've been listening to Hank all my life and I never thought you could miss a person you never knew and was gone before you came along but I do miss Hank and the world really lost something special
I believe she knew Hank's intentions towards her, as a beautiful girl who was looked on as fair game. I gather her mother stepped in and warned Hank off.
Anita Carter sings with Hank Williams. She was one of the Carter Family, and her sister was June Carter Cash. The other sister was Helen, and the mother was Maybelle.
Would have been better to kept it on the old video. It is priceless! Takes away from this video flipping to the modern. Love the look in her eye when she looks at Hank. Thanks for sharing!

I Can't Help It (If I'm Still In Love With You)" Today I passed you on the street And my heart fell at your feet I can't help it if I'm still in love with you. Somebody else stood by your side And he looked so satisfied I can't help it if I'm still in love with you. A picture from the past came slowly stealing As I brushed your arm and walked so close to you Then suddenly I got that old time feeling I can't help it if I'm still in love with you. It's hard to know another's lips will kiss you And hold you just the way I used to do Oh, heaven only knows how much I miss you I can't help it if I'm still in love with you.
He might have renounced Nashville but he has nothing against genre He wants to do his thang. He almost starved from the dope I ve almost all his stuff Senor Culo Inteligente!
SublimeLBC Go to U-Tube, ask for this song by Hank and Anita. There will be several come up. Get the one posted by Gator Rock, it is the longest, 2:23 min. Also, more complete, and very clear.
great video great singing from these two very talented artists. this is my favourite HWs song and the best rendition. great rapport between them and relaxed effortless singing. with he had recorded more duets. my uncle used to get his pals round on a friday night, some bottled beer and put these songs on the wind up gramophone then sing their hearts out.
Why does that woman have To be shown in the video of Hank William's and Anita Carter it is very rude when you fo that . Who cares about the woman . We are interested in Hank Williams and Anita Carter .... Quit doing that... who is she does anyone know . A person can't look at anything on utube without being distracted........
I remember the day that they announced hanks death. I was standing in front of an Irvin radio singing with his voice. I felt as if I lost my own family. No one will ever replace him. I believe that original country twang is gone
