@@HannaHsOverInvested But for most game with co-op when teammate "die" he just lie down and there is some kind of timer when he die die. So his teammates can heal him.
@rednova2212
@rednova2212 11 месяцев назад
@@HannaHsOverInvested Yeah so essentially first you hit the 'downed' portion. Meaning when your health hits Zero, you're just down for a time, until the timer runs out and then your character goes limp and you *actually* die. Then if you actually do die, your character spawns at a later point in the stage, just to be a little bit more clear on this little detail. So if your team hero modes it out to later in the stage (Now made a little bit harder because they went from a team of 4 to a team of 3... Or 2 if 2 people go down. Or even a single person if 3 do...) then they can get the others back into the game. I've seen matches where a singular person goes hero mode through a horde and a monster event when their team is dead and rescuable on Damnation Difficulty(the highest level difficulty in the game) and still rescue the team, and it is genuinely a very impressive thing to watch. Like watching something heroic that'd be in a movie, or as if it's an illustration of the actions of a hero from a story in their battles. But yeah, hopefully that clears up that detail. In summary, it's a trade-off.

On the creepy and weird shoot them point. The whispering figure is called a Daemonhost, a psyker who has been possessed by a daemon. In game these are completely passive unless you shoot them or get to close to them. If you avoid them they're safe, if you interact they wake up and will rapidly wipe out about two of your four player squad before teleporting away. Bricky is trolling his viewers there.

But she did imagine that the female zealot in the trailer was a Sister of Battle, which is a fair mistake to make for the uninitiated, especially since the female zealot can be made to look a lot like a Sister. For those unaware, it's worth noting that the zealots are amongst the most extreme religious nutjobs you can find in the Imperium, to the point where groups like the Sister would look at them like they were a bit much.

You'd love Ogryns, look up Nork Deddog, he's the Forest Gump of the Imperial Guard and also the greatest bodyguard anyone in the setting could ask for. As an example, when he and his commanding officer were under fire, and the officer was bleeding out, he commanded Nork to bring the medkit from the remains of their APC. Not knowing how to work the medkit, Nork decided grabbing and dragging over the APC was technically bringing him the medkit, and it worked out since the broken carrier ended up providing them cover.

To be born good, or to overcome your evil nature through great effort?" from Skyrim. 27:30 I’m pretty sure that was Bricky being sarcastic and using his suppressed rage for Darktide players who DO “Just shoot the whispering thing” to add extra emotion to his “advice”, lol. Basically, it’s an OPTIONAL, very dangerous enemy that can SOMETIMES show up on missions and you can very easily go AROUND them without needing to fight them. Until some dumbass or a trolling griefer goes, “I’m GoNnA PoKe iT, LAWL!1!1” at which point the Daemonhost will very quickly kill 2 players, and then leave. Unless you’re SOMEHOW able to cause enough damage to kill it before then, but it takes an experienced and PREPARED team to do that.

19:19 Picking your voice is sort of like picking your favorite character you want to hear more from. All your characters dialog is automatic and they bicker with other members of your team as you go through the level, but you never get to choose what they say or really when they say it. If you play consistently with a group it will give the effect the different characters in the team are making connections with each other automatically which is really cool immigrant story telling.

Just a lore dump related to why the Imperium found it necessary to stoop to the horrific usage of Servitors, the ancient humans from a time dubbed "The Golden Age" were actually pretty chill and regular, almost like Star Trek. They had peaceful accord with aliens, weren't grimdark savages and typically had machines and AI handling their mundane day-to-day drudgery. Then the Cybernetic Revolt happened and, as may be expected from the 2nd largest recorded conflict in the entire history of the Warhammer 40k universe, nearly wiped humanity from existence. Almost 100% of the untold trillions of robots (dubbed "Men of Iron") turned against humanity violently and waged a galaxy spanning war with them and anyone else they could find. After humanity barely managed to fend off an enemy with weapons that hurled continents like hackysacks and devoured the very fabric of reality in localized areas, their alien "allies" almost universally betrayed them and kicked the injured, winded body of the now-dying human race. If it weren't for the Emperor of Mankind, humanity in 40k would've died in a Mad Max hellscape on Earth and rotted on a million other worlds around the galaxy. He's the one who's primarily responsible for most of the odd policies of the Imperium of Man, as he wanted to ensure that nothing like the Cybernetic Revolt could ever happen again. In short, the Grim Darkness of the 41st Millennium is utterly horrific, but not without some modicum of reason buried beneath layers of overly descriptive edginess.

19:07 OOOOH, a good way to get around the issues with your open world choices (which I have MAJOR issues with as well, but still like them immensely) is to specifically look up which actions lead to good vs bad endings and MAKE SURE YOU ADD “NO SPOILERS” in the search so that the story itself isn’t spoiled for you. It reassures me so immensely when I can expect which dialogue choices matter in the story long term. Or JUST play the game first and then replay again while looks up what I described above in case there’s no avoiding spoilers.

As a Warhammer fan, for me the appeal of the universe comes down to 4 things, in no particular order - aesthetic/cool factor. Everything is turned up to 11 and ends up insanely grim, or cool, or goofy and it somehow all works together in the way a metal album cover does - a morbid sort of escapism. Everything is so terrible, and everyone is so evil that the real world cant get that bad, even if things aren't great. - ludicrous scale. Theres literally hundreds of books for this universe to match the ludicrous breadth of it's galaxy, the scale it operates on is almost unrivaled and theres always more to find in it. - the narrative. The stories set in it and the way the good ones weave all that together beautifully and often tragically. Unfortunately many writers forget to critique the subject matter and end up justifying or even lionizing the imperium.

Death in team based games usually has a few mechanics to help not being permanently dead. For starters some/most game have bleed out state. If you get killed you don't die you fall down and either can't move till you die, cannot move but can still shoot, or can crawl slowly. There is a penality for going into bleed out to many times usually how long it takes for you to actually die in this state. When you are in a bleed out state other teammates can patch you up and help you get back into action. Some game also have a second wind mechanics. Basically bleed out but if you manage to kill someone when you are down and can't move slowly dying you gad a self revive. And there usually are some sort of checkpoints in a mission that allow you to revive the dead player. It's really rare for games to have a if you die you are dead and have to watch others play for the next 20-40 min kind of death punishment. But games like that do exist.

The thing he was saying to "go ahead and shoot" is an enemy that you can avoid, and creep around, but if you get too close or accidentally shoot it they wake up and are basically boss level difficulty. The game plays a lot like Left 4 Dead, its definitely best with friends, but you can play with random folks. Also the game is on consoles, and is actually on xbox gamepass as well. When you're *dead* at these type of games - Your team will find it harder to proceed with the mission, yet at some point you will appear on the map (somewhere ahead) as *Captured*, and your team can release you - and so you will get back into action :) And yeah, Moments of the "Last survivor" usually ending up with some sort of special enemy like a dog, or something similar (that will pin you down without any way or chance of escape (Only your allies can help you in that situation...) And yet, sometimes... there's *vermintide's Last Stand Theme* kick's in,and you show them how it's F**ing done...). The moment when the last person standing actually carries through the hordes of enemies is... well.. jaw-dropping.

@9:33 That line you are talking about is a common theme about soldiering in Steven Erikson's Malazan Book of the Fallen. A lot of the stories follow soldiers in later stages of an empire, and that line perfectly fits that feeling.

What happens when you die depends on the game, there are some where if you die your squad is now down a person until the end and even one death is debilitating, in this game you get "wounds" which are blocks of health, you start with two wounds, and say you have a +1wounds item, now you have three, if you lose all your health you drop to the ground and need to be helped up, once up you lose one wound, so now your max is 2, until you heal. if you drop with only one wound left you die, but you'll respawn "captured" a little further in the mission and your team can rescue you. Which that last part is exactly like in left 4 dead.

Escapism. Being able to enjoy the grimdark does not necessarily mean advocating or fully emotionally investing into the dark world that is warhammer to the point of distress. We enjoy it for what it is, while understanding that it is so fantastical and absurd and separate from reality and that we did not actually just slaughter hundreds of actual people. To each their own.

"Bad player, penalty box, shame shame shame shame shame" is such a good way to describe dying in co-op multiplayer games ngl haha. Usually you get dropped to your knees and need to be helped back up by another player, but if they don't get to you in time your character dies, to be revived at the next checkpoint, and in thr meantime you can switch between watching the viewpoint of your allies to keep yourself from getting bored. But its fast paced so max waiting time is often just a minute or two. The game only ends if all players are dead (or all players are on their knees since that means nobody is left to pick everyone else up)

To put it simply, Warhammer is a franchise. It covers several tabletop miniature wargames, a couple of tabletop roleplaying games, several novels, and multiple video games. All owned and made by Games Workshop (GW) There are currently three tabletop wargames, and these are GW’s bread and butter. The most well known is Warhammer 40,000, aka 40k. This is the main one you have explored. Most of the video games and books take place in this setting. Next is Horus Heresy, which takes place during the signature event that created the dark age of 40k. Finally, there is Age of Sigmar, which is more Medieval style. This is the one depicted in the Vermintide game series. There are also several spin-off games. Most of these are just battles with smaller armies, so just 40k on a smaller scale. Other games that have been made, but are no longer owned by GW, and thus have nothing in common with the properties owned by them, are Space Crusade and HeroQuest. One game still made by GW is Space Hulk, which is a single squad of marines in the tight corridors of a spaceship fighting Tyranid. Finally, there is Booodbowl. Quite literally, it is the idea of “what if the people from Age of Sigmar found the rules to American Football and it became very popular in the setting, creating a league with teams from each country and faction.”

I'm hoping you'll also watch Bricky's "How Well Does Darktide Do Warhammer" video but I feel somewhat confident that you will. Having said that, there's another creator who makes awesome video essays about a lot of stuff, video games included, and I'd really enjoy seeing your reactions to them. His name is Jacob Geller, and a great first one to watch in my opinion is "The Decade-Long Quest For Shadow of the Colossus’ Last Secret" It's a fabulously constructed video that both tells a fascinating story and is a testament to just how deep people will go into games they care about.

I completely get you on random quotes or simple ideas branching out into whole ass characters I had two characters get made just from a single line in a song "Man lives, man dies, and its all vanity" which is actually a sample of a preacher in the song so I just turned that into a religious type who would say "Man lives" as he pulls his sword out and then "man dies" before he cuts their head off and then ends it with "and its all vanity" as the head hits the ground and rolls. Just pure cool. The second character was an offshoot of a line I thought the first character might say "Resorting to violence is a sign of weakness. It seems today...I must be a weak man" before yeah wrecking people and I decided to just make that its own concept. The concept being a monk who sought perfection in all ways and who trained but only to hone his body and mind and he disliked violence not at ALL because no hurting people is baaad but because he found it uninspired, easy, and boring. He was also a samurai monk robot man who refused to acknowledge he was a robot man while also making robot noises with his mouth and having laser eyes (that's just his ki obviously). Its unclear if he's actually delusional or just messing with everyone. Sorry about the rant as a writer I'm sure you understand but yeah I love characters who just pop up from a single line you hear

omg Hannah, I feel the same way, I'm an amateur writer, I've mostly written drafts for stories of mine set in the same fantasy world, but everytime I hear, read, or learn something cool, or find an aesthetic I find cool, my mind immediately goes on overdrive to make a story out of it. next, your question for deaths while playing with others, some games respawn you immediately or after a few seconds after you die, but most keep you dead until your teammates all die, finish the mission, or bring you back using ways included in the game. also at 27:58, that was a Daemonhost, an enemy in Dark tide you should NEVER wake up, you wake it up by shooting it or getting too near. and it has a TON of health, and it usually takes the entire team to kill it, if not, your entire team is dead. it chases you once you wake it up and it's terrifying,

There is a game called outer wilds (not to be confused with outer worlds). Outet wilds is onr of if not the all time favourite game of mine. Its a game you should go into completely blind because its all about the journey. It tells you a story but also has you discover that story through clues as you play. In a nutshell, its a space game, you're a new astronaut about to go out there to explore the solar system and investigate a long gone species. Its great but i can't say anymore without spoiling and taking away from the experience.

The short version to what happen when you die is you respawn in the corner in around 10 seconds and your ally have to get you up and running again . Don't worry ramifications are way worse because of loss of ressources , less chances for the team to survive a mistake , less toughness regen , less flexibility and you lost your grenades if you had any which in higher difficulties can be annoying considering the power of those stupid soda cans and lunch boxes . In higher difficulty a run is like a castle of card so pray the god emperor that if you take a card from the structure it better not be one at the base . Everyone is responsible of its own survivability but by god not trying to protect your teammate is a one way ticket to have a full party wipe near the end of the mission because Sarah and Kevin didn't save their ally from the space program dogs and the hardcore fishnet enthusiast , ending up being their victims too .

Honestly Hannah, if you are playing DOOM Eternal and can find enjoyment there don't worry about Darktide being too much/hard for you. DOOM Eternal will have you walking into other shooters rather confidently. Yes, every game plays a bit differently but that's the fun of it. Figuring out the little things like that weird swooshing sound in Darktide meaning some enemy off-screen is trying to hit you with a melee attack, or that dodging is king in Darktide when the hordes of poxwalkers come.

About the Channel's future: I understand YT is pushing shorts. Something I've seen other channels that prefer long form content do is use shorts as promos for their bigger videos. I wouldn't put much stock in chasing the algorithm so hard that you risk burning what people enjoyed about your content in the first place. I would therefore, to put it plainly, recommend a strategic adaptation. Indulge in making shorts, but keep producing videos the way you like to make them. Which seems to be longer form react content. As for other things I would like to see: LORE VIDEOS, YES PLEASE! Not a lot of people react to lore, and there's a lot of game lore channels that could use some love. PancreasNoWork is an entertaining guy who covers all Warhammer settings, plus he has dipped his toe into Halo and Elder Scrolls too. The Book of Choyer is a really "epic", narrative, kinda documentary production level lore channel for Warhammer. For Fallout lore, Shoddycast did a really great series on Fallout Lore called "The Storyteller" which is really immersive, Synonymous does pretty good Fallout stuff too. I also think reacting to gaming related content is a good idea too. A fascinating gateway into gamer culture/mentality. DJPeachCobbler does a lot of really thought provoking videos on games. Very funny, humor can be a bit dark and edgy tho. TheRussianBadger... Is not deep, or thought provoking. Very funny though, and very good at games. He's a god of editing too.

and to answer the question about what happens when you die: In horde shooters like darktide theres usually a "downed" system. When you run out of health you can be picked up again by your teammates, but if you go down to many times you are "captured" and will be out of the game for a bit but will then spawn further along in the mission where your team can release you to fight again. DO NOT SHOOT THE DEMONHOST UNLESS YOUR TEAM IS READY TO TAKE ON A DEMONHOST

Witcher 3s dialogue is a lot easier to get your head around then Mass effects.. mostly because it's better written, so your dialogue options are are things that might actually be something you would say... And while they do have an effect on various story outcomes at times.. very rarely are you given a direct binary choice, and you can kind of just play it like you would want to.. say the things that you would want to say, even if in the game decisions aren't necessarily black and white and the outcomes may not be as readable up front. By the time that you finish the tutorial section, you get a feel for how the world works and you're almost always going to be very aware when a decision is going to have a murky context and in most cases you'll be given enough subtle spidey sense from the writing to know that you should look for more context.. which usually will be provided either in lore or in pursuing other dialogue. It was Witcher 2 that really sold me on CD project, just from the opening dialogue alone.. I was so tired of things like Mass effect and it's arbitrary binary humans don't talk this way kind of storytelling.. anyone who had played vampire the masquerade bloodlines or the original fallout games from the 90s had been given a taste of what dialogue could be in a video game.. and while The Witcher games don't take the narrative branching or the gamification of the dialogue to that extent.. the writing quality is a breath of fresh air in how the options that you can choose actually seem like options. You can find recap breakdowns of The Witcher 2.. I would recommend that just for the story context cuz it's really good.. I don't think you would chill with the gameplay so much, it's kind of frustrating and spammy and I was playing with a mouse and keyboard so I can only imagine how miserable it would have been with the controller.. they did a really good job of making The Witcher 3 easy to control and manipulate combat scenarios without simplifying it mechanically.. even if it came at the sacrifice of logistical complexity in the RPG sense.. but the story aspect of Witcher 2 is so good by comparison to its contemporaries, and I'm pretty sure you would enjoy it.

Warhammer is fundamentally a tabletop wargame about /yourdudes/. Everything else is a spin-off. Its roots are in roleplaying games and historical wargames. The problem with historical games is you can't always play with people that have the same army. For example, if we both play Napoleonic games, we can't play with one another if we both have French armies because Napoleon never fought against Napoleon. One of us would have to have another country, but that means we have to paint and assemble and invest in another set of miniatures. There's also the issue of not having the right time period. Roleplaying games (like Dungeons and Dragons) are best suited for small conflicts (like a bar fight with maybe a dozen people). They don't handle large engagements. It can take an hour to make a character for D&D, which is fine when you're playing with 4 people. Several seconds or minutes of combat can take a whole afternoon to play out with your play ground. But trying to have a mass army involving hundreds of characters is going to take forever. Warhammer was created to fix all of that. It streamlined roleplaying combat for mass battles, while also providing a reason for two players of the same faction to fight one another. The fluff, the video games, the spin-off boxed games, and so on are all rooted in this experience and is why it's such a popular franchise.

If you like Bricky and are interested in 40k lore, he does do a podcast where he "teaches" someone else parts of the lore and about a third of it is banter and memes so it's a good time, but the episodes are about an hour long so it's not really something to make reaction type content. There's something wonderfully engrossing about grim and horrible settings, I can't quite put my finger on what it is, but other similar things have hooked me.
