As a Zealot class main. What Bricky means by the low health thing is, there are perks for the Zealot that make you stronger the lower your health is. It's a risk V reward "Do you wanna do more damage with your melee weapon? Well, you're going to need to be on the verge of death to do it." kinda thing.

Regarding corpse starch, in the Ciaphas Cain (HERO OF THE IMPERIUM) novels and some others, there are also tongue-in-cheek mentions of "Soylens Viridians" more directly. Also, the Imperium sure wishes it was a fascist state, but in reality, it cannot functionally enforce its will across the entire galaxy and most worlds are left alone if they (A): Worship the God-Emperor and (B): Pay their taxes. Internal affairs of governance are often outright ignored, because resources cannot be spared, and whichever local government type will often be tolerated as long as it follows A and B. Less populated and important worlds may have a single actual Arbites liaison from the greater Imperium as the grand total of all permanent off-world law enforcement authority on the planet.

Despite GW themselves sometimes using the label of "fascist" the Imperium really isn't fascist in anything except for its aesthetics and surface level language. In reality it's a theocratic feudal empire that doesn't give a shit about how its planets function as long as they worship the God-Emperor and provide resources according to what the world can realistically yield. Some planets are totalitarian nightmares, others are democratic republics, some are feudal kingdoms. However, although the million+ worlds of the Imperium have huge diversity in how they are run, from what I've seen it is indicated that somewhere around half of all the actual population of mankind lives in a relatively low number of hive worlds, which are almost always totalitarian dystopias. Even in the more "immaterial" aspects of fascism, it lacks many extremely important ideological tents (such as "national rejuvenation" - fascism is a revolutionary ideology and the Imperium is very explicitly NOT that) and, while it is without question racially supremacist - believing that aliens should be exterminated or enslaved, and only barely tolerating abhumans - it doesn't fall into traditional notions of nationalism, as religion and obedience is all that matters to them and they don't care about heritage, ethnicity, culture, language or identity. The Imperium also doesn't care about socio-economic organisation literally at all aside from what its subject planets can provide for the war machine.

The Imperium may have been basically fascist during the Great Crusade, but 10,000 years later, they will never actually hit the mark due to their endless transportation, materiel, and communication woes. Even with Guilliman as regent, there is indescribably strong institutional inertia and general inflexibility to stymie his efforts in addition to the Great Rift. However, fascist planetary governments certainly exist within the Imperium. As do democratic and monarchical ones.

It is pretty fun to play as the Ogryn in Darktide. And plus it's great for if you want to play less seriously as it is quite a bit of goofy fun, when I made my own Ogryn I just had a "sod it" moment and went right into calling 'em a name that just so happened to be a mis-pronunciation of my actual first name and gave him the hungry voice-pack because it is real fun to hear all the lines from that one. Think one I like quite a bit more than most other lines is just the Ogryn saying something about how they don't like medals because they can't eat medals and may be partially because with that line you can have a Veteran straight up say "so you finally found something you couldn't eat". The melee side of things with the Ogryn is pretty good and can be quite hilarious because think one or two melee weapons if you use the alt attack with them will have something like a SLAP as the alt attack and you can just stun lock enemies by slapping them around which I did one time with a rager and he quite literally could do NOTHING the entire time until suddenly a Bomber came in and threw a bomb on me and the Rager and the Rager, unfortunately burned and fell to the ground which kinda ruined the fun but it was still incredibly fun to do and incredibly amusing at the same time, think with the grenade launcher thing the Ogryn can get too it's basically a fist weapon and a grenade launcher mixed into one because the main attack is straight melee and if you aim you can shoot grenades out of it by doing that OR if you use the alt attack, the Ogryn will smash their weapon into an enemy before firing it, releasing a direct impact explosion that way right into the target. Btw on the violence of Darktide it is pretty nasty what you can do the enemy and what they expel when hit, like sure get the usual with it but also get like, tons of maggots and all sorts of nasty bodily fluids coming out too which is just sickening in a sense but well, fits quite well when you consider that the enemy is all Nurgle corrupted (or in the case of the Beast, a Nurgle Demon). Oh and, don't wake the Daemon Host. They will destroy you if you do, it is not recommended, in the slightest to actually try your luck in beating one unless you know for sure, you can do it. And I am saying that as someone who has had quite a bit of experience with this because I have been killed multiple times over by a Daemon Host, they do not mess around.

To my knowledge, Corpse Starch is not directly people, I think it is more that there is a certain type of fly that uses biomass to lay larvae, corpses of people are used to feed these larvae, make them grow and they are then converted into corpse starch, that is my knowledge of it, at least.

I believe it's a combination of larvae and corpses that citizens eat there are entire guilds of people that gather corpses and grind them up with anything else that have nutritional value

In my experience the best games guide you in how to play without flat out telling or forcing you. It's not really unique to Dark Tide. Other games have mechanics that actively foster a playstyle or environment the designer intentionally wants to bring about. One example that just pops off the top of my head is Final Fantasy 14. Like one example is there is a solo fight players can do but other players can cheer them on to help out which actively helps in the fight and if they win everyone there gets a buff. But more simplistically it's stuff like coming to a fork in the road and one street has lights on the other is dark. Your eye is drawn to the light street first. Or shoot the big glowy bits for more damage is common now. Not subtle but it's generally the same thing. The Zealot has a skill where if her health reaches 0 she is invincible for a few seconds and any damage she does heals her at the end of the time limit. Plus she can get bonuses for being hurt but it's kind of dangerous to do stuff like that as that might sound amazing, but it requires a lot of planning to pull off and the team can screw up your efforts to go on a killing spree. Plus I just like swinging a big weapon and watching bodies go everywhere :P

Vermintide is their previous title and it’s set in Warhammer fantasy so it’s more melee focused. You have guns/bows but it’s more for dealing with elites and specials. Darktide is set in the 41st millennium. It’s the Future. Also cathedrals walk and destroy stuff. Overall darktide is enjoyable but it lacks maps and classes compared to vermintide launch. 26:50 it’s a demon host. A boss that can be avoided/ should be avoided. If you wake it it wails on you till it kills 2 players so flashlights off and don’t shoot it or go near it.

Thankfully the game is on the upturn, but it desperately needs a major content update. Player counts are dwindling, and the devs are going to really have to work uphill in order to maintain player count.

From my own observations it seems like almost every long-time Vermitide player has gone back to VT2. It's not just that VT2 has way more content (though it most certainly does), but it's much better polished, better balanced and flows faster

@@sulphuric_glue4468 every long-time vermintide player (myself included) knew that darktide is going to have a rough start, it was the same with vermintide 2 which also released in a rough state. we are basically chilling back in vt2 until fatshark irons out the kinks which should take around 1 year after release like vt2. also of course vt2 is more polished and better balanced, after all you are comparing a 5 year old game against a 5 month old game, not really a fair comparison.

@@IceColdKillah133 I wasn't there for VT2's launch so I don't know how it really was, but even on launch it had more content than Darktide, didn't have stupid infuriating (and completely nonsensical) animations whenever you switch to your ranged weapon, didn't make kiting near impossible by making dodges interrupt stamina regen, didn't make merely spamming left click enough to control hordes with most melee weapons, didn't spam ranged enemies in open areas to force you to spend 10 minutes peeking out of cover to kill them... From what I heard, VT2 had a hell of a lot of bugs and some features had to be rebalanced quite a bit, but the core gameplay was perfectly fine and that's why people stuck with it - not to mention the characters were all highly engaging. Darktide has had many combat issues, boring unengaging talents (which have only gotten worse since the CBT - what an accurate acronym for that shitshow, as an aside) and utterly bland uninteresting characters that repeat themselves more than Hoggar's Bridge ever since our first look at the game, and Fatshark has only done surface level work at best.

@@sulphuric_glue4468 the launch content of darktide is about on par with the launch content of vt2: 14 missions for darktide vs 13 missions for vt2, 65 weapons for darktide vs around 50 weapons for vt2. biggest difference is though that vt2 started with 15 classes (3 for each character) vs only 4 classes in darktide, which is kinda offset by the overlap in roles in the 15 classes of vt2 but yeah, at least 2 classes per archetype would've been nice to have. the core gameplay is fine, you shouldn't compare it to close to vt2 since darktide needs to change things for the bigger ranged combat focus to work, which in turn means to make melee not as effective for most classes. if it's the exact same as vt2 why even play darktide in the first place? it needs some finetuning (tbh i still find its too melee focused for the intended 50/50 split) but that was the same during vt2 launch. also, "ranged spam" can be easily quelled with grenades and suppression. the "characters" (or rather archetypes) aren't as good as proper characters like in vt2, but that was imo clear since the character creation was announced. not as bad as I feared but I would've prefered if they kept the same approach as in vt. the boring talents are basically reused talents from vt2, the same shout/charge/buff which already exists. I'm surprised they didn't reuse sienna's fireball for the psyker and only gave them the vent. there is definitely room for upgrade, some "outcast engineer"-type of talent would've been great for the veteran or ogryn.
