Hans Niemann played a fine tournament at the World Rapid 2022 in the first half. But in the second half he slumped. This was one of his defeats in the penultimate round where he just resigned in 12 moves. He had more time on his clock when the game ended than what he began with.

@@1polyron1 Vokidov’s move Bg7 was actually a serious threat to capture the c3 pawn and after pawn takes, Queen will take forking king and rook and the rook falls. Hans completely misses the bishop sacrifice to gain the exchange. But it is not just rook for bishop, it is also 2 pawns and terrible development for white. For a master player, this is over for white. The Bishop vs Rook, 2 pawn and terrible king/development is just game over. Edit: Bishop is worth 3 points vs Rook (5 points), 2 pawns (2 points) and terrible development (another 1.5 to 2 points). So 3vs5+2+2 which is 3vs9 approx, i would estimate the evaluation is -6 for black. No compensation or chances for blunder, it’s a master game, it’s over.

@@tetraedri_1834 you have to keep in mind that he has been playing in a relaxed style for a long time, which was also his style when he was obliterating Magnus Carlsen with black pieces. The way he looks, the way he ignores is the same. But in one game, he somehow plays a lot of optimal moves, and in the other, he blunders an extremely basic tactical pattern. I bet I have seen hundreds of those tactics with Bxc3 followed by Qxc3, I blundered some of them, and punished some of my opponents who played them. As an 1800 level player, after my opponent plays Bg7, the very first move, yes, THE VERY FIRST MOVE I would realize and calculate would be Bxc3. There is no way any 2400+ level player would not see that threat. Don't get me wrong though. Hans is a high-level player, but this time, he was trying to play with his casual style without cheating (due to obvious reasons), which failed miserably. He was trying to be casual like the first games in the Sinquefield Cup, but he blundered an easy tactic. He was not trying to play his best. He was trying to prove himself innocent by playing rapidly. He was not keeping his attention in the game. He was trying to imitate his past self. This, is the only way someone so advanced at chess would miss Bxc3 completely.

Not that I trust Niemann as far as I can spit - however there is also the effect that young players with a high FIDE rating in classic have a rather low rating in rapid and blitz, where their rating is trundling behind a bit. I guess this is because there are more classic otb tournaments and leagues compared to rapid and blitz.

@@maxzweistein8951 hmm maybe, but then i look at Firouzja, Duda, Duboc Arjun or Gukesh which are quite good in all time formats. Hans is hard to watch but hard to look away from... he embodies a lot of the traits that I don't like about myself. His rage, seeing how he looks away from the board, rubbing his hair and face constantly as though he's mentally stuck in the mud, listening to his cringey nebulous interview answers. I get the feeling that he thinks he deserves more than he's capable of but doesn't know how to bridge the gap (or he does, just not over the table lol). Idk it hits too close to home but also makes me want to take the time to work on myself and get rid of the similarities.
@rickcarson591

He's just not willing to put in the hard work, and takes shortcuts, and now he's trapped in his own web of lies. He's allowed the cheating to get his rating too far ahead of what he's actually capable of. But there was a money incentive. Nobody cares about the top 1000th GM. Top 30 or top 10, that's worth some online attention. (For anyone complaining - that's literally the justification he gave for online cheating. He was doing it to be competitive with guys like Hikaru so he could have similar audience numbers)
