This video provides a quick tutorial on how to wash a Happy Mask, which is a reusable mask with a built-in nanofiber membrane. Due to the nature of the filter, Happy Masks must be hand washed rather than machine washed.

Is it ok to wash multiple masks? I have 3 I’d like to wash in same bowl. Do I add 1 drop of detergent per mask or keep it 1 drop period?

Can I blot or press the mask between towels to get some excess water off? Mine take more like 12 hours to dry and are sometimes not even dry in the morning if I wash the night before.
@gethappygear
@gethappygear Год назад
Yes, you’re welcome to do that! Please just be careful to blot it gently and not flatten the mask like a pancake when blotting it.

As the mask is soaking could we put Lysol laundry sanitizer in there as well to truly sanitize ?
@gethappygear
@gethappygear 2 года назад
We don’t recommend using Lysol, but spraying with isopropyl alcohol in between or after washing is perfectly safe!

@@gethappygear Ok, thanks for the reply. Is there a reason why the laundry sanitizer would not work? Would it maybe eat away at the filters?

Is it really not possible to machine wash on gentle cycle?
@gethappygear
@gethappygear 2 года назад
If it’s the ultra series, you’re welcome to wash on gentle cycle and then allow to air dry! We recommend hand washing the pro series though. :)

I spilled coffee on half of my happy mask. Is it still usable with washing or is the filter harmed? TIA
@gethappygear
@gethappygear 2 года назад
So sorry for the late reply! It should be just fine with the usual washing approach - feel free to use a bit of Tide Free and Gentle if the coffee smell remains or if there is a stain. Thanks!

Is setting the mask outside to dry in the sun a good idea?
@gethappygear
@gethappygear 2 года назад
Yes, that’s a great idea as long as the air outside is not polluted and you’re not in an area with severe pollen. Setting the masks to dry indoors near a window with sunlight also works!

We don’t need to mix the soap into the water? It look like soap is just sitting in the watee
@gethappygear

It’s a great question! Please go ahead to mix the soap in the water- you can also do this by putting the soap in first and adding the water after!

Do I wash the mask after every single use? Or, is it time-based? eg I put it on to go into a crowded store for say 5 minutes.

How often to wash the mask?
@gethappygear
@gethappygear 2 года назад
We would recommend washing the masks every 3-4 wears, and spraying with isopropyl alcohol on both sides each time you wear, in-between washes. The filters in our masks last approximately 250 hours and can be washed 50 times without impact to filtration efficacy. Some signs that the filter may be nearing the end of its life and it is time for a new Happy Mask are if you feel it's not quite as breathable as it once was.

@@gethappygear why wouldn't someone wash it every day/if they wear it for 8 hours at work?
@ozok17

@@dragongirl113 sometimes people wear masks for shorter periods at a time than 8 consecutive hours, and not only at work.

I was able to find a 91% isopropyl alcohol spray bottle. I see you recommend 70%, but would the 91% work as well?

Hi…I’m not affiliated with Happy Masks, but have purchased quite a few and love them! I’m a nurse of 25 years and saw your question and want to help. To make 70% isopropyl alcohol from 91% isopropyl alcohol, you just need to do a little math and a bit of mixing. Try this recipe, mixing into a clean spray bottle: 8oz of 91% isopropyl alcohol + 2oz distilled water to get a 10oz solution of 73% isopropyl alcohol. The additional 3% won’t matter or hurt your masks. Now you have an isopropyl alcohol disinfectant spray that’s safe to use on just about any surface! For those of you who are curious about why “stronger is not better” in this case, here are a few microbiology “germ-fighting” facts: 91% isopropyl alcohol is too strong to use to kill ‘germs’ because it there isn’t enough water in this ratio to be a carrier of the alcohol across the cell membrane of viruses or bacteria. Without the added water in the 70% ratio, the 91% alcohol fries the outside of the cell, making the alcohol unable to get inside the cell and actually kill it. That being said, every virus has its own unique structure. The flu virus, common cold virus, HIV, and SARS-CoV-2 (causes COVID 19) can be deactivated by any isopropyl alcohol concentration greater than or equal to 60%….yet the norovirus won’t be deactivated by isopropyl alcohol at any concentration. (Plain hand-washing plus bleach on surfaces were our defense choices back then) End of fun science facts for today! Happy cleaning!
