They changed the whole Manchester scene along with The Inspirals and The Stone Roses. I've never seen a bad gig. Couldn't give shit what they are on. It's their business. X
Yes, I can explain. The whole is greater than the sum of its parts. Bez brought a manic energy to the band, and live, that energy was totally infectious to the audience. The Mondays didn't give a toss about quality of musicianship or fancy song structures. They were all about feel, groove, passion and, yes, energy. Subsequently Bez was as important to the band as any other member. He's a lovely feller as well. tells a great story (read his book 'Freaky Dancing') and for me and many, deserves his spot as an icon of a crazy era.
This is the year before the fences went up. We were up on the hill watching this shambles, looking and feeling equally 'spent' and shambolic. it was fucking amazing and i've never seen so many people in one place, in all my days. 120k tickets? There must have been 200k people just watching the Pyramid Stage - coming down from Chemical Brothers the night before, waiting for Bowie to see us home. Rolf Harris was on at some point, but let's leave that one...
the happy mondays to me symbolise the early 90's. the drug culture, the not giving a fuck other than getting wasted n having a good time. ppl may slate them n their performances. but they are the early 90's.
Saw them support Oasis at the Reebok stadium and I think they were a hard act to follow. I've followed thenm from the beginning. Shaun came in the Brunswick in iddleyon and Robbie Malone asked Shau to sign his wall as he lived the back to. He had had 30odd valium and spelt his name wrong. But that's what you expect. They are legends. Great musicians. Rosetta has a great voice. Sexy as well. Xx

OOh, were this lot there in 2000? Didn't know. It's the only year I went - got in free, stayed in the travellers field. Didn't see any of the bands. Spent most of the time at my mates raves in the travellers field. It was a great vibe. Won't go back now it's gone corporate.
yea 20 past six on the sunday ,packed ,we were parked just off the travellers field in a blue transit by the reggae system ,we were by the van most days brilliant times ,sadly like the big sites/free festivals gone from the uk forever
No, it was black grape who were then joined by the rest of the happy Mondays. It was the first time Ryder was allowed to perform as/with the Mondays since Factory imploded. A copyright or something had run out and they performed together.
Yeah, it was more a Black Grape performing Happy Mondays tunes kind of show. I expected them to launch into "Kelly's heroes" or "In the name of the father" at any time.
The instrumental content of this band is the only thing that saves the live show. Shame really. Brilliant song, brilliant vibe. Crap singer. He's got more hits than me though... He did something right, once
