I’m exclusively pumping because I had a NICU baby too and we wanted to monitor his feeds a bit more as he gained weight. He was born pretty premature. Anyway, it’s a LOT of work but I am so proud to be able to feed him from my body still. It’s so rewarding. I have the Elvie which makes it easier. I recommend continuing to pump every 2-3 hrs until your milk is established. EAT CARBS!!! Bread is my savior. And water. Once you get to 25-30oz in 24 hrs you should be in a good place to start doing every 4-5 hrs with similar milk output. Also research the pitcher method for storing. And freeze as much as you can!! The hard part is finding time to actually pump but you have sooo many hands to help you so you will be okay. Sending much love!!!

I’m so happy for y’all!! My daughter was in nicu for 2 months and then picu for a month. Born April 30, finally home august 5. She was a very chill baby too. I only breastfed like 5 times because of the issues she was born with.

I can relate to you so much. It’s so hard when you want to breastfeed but, due to baby circumstances, are unable to. My daughter was premie and had a congenital defect. She was aspirating and we had to side-line bottle feed. She also had issues swallowing. You are amazing! Always praying for your sweet family!

I have gotten a neck rash and full body hives twice in my life. First time I thought it was something I was putting on my body so I changed what I was using. it happened again over a year later. Pretty sure it was due to stress and anxiety. Sooo I feel your pain.

My son was in the NICU for 14 days and wasn’t able to breastfeed until he was 4 months old! I pumped and used bottles in the meantime but just sending you some hope that it still could happen ❤

I can so relate Kayli I thought I was going to have a smooth nursing journey with Larissa she had a dairy allergy so it made it superchallenging she ended up being mostly formula fed , with Natalie she was a NICU baby born at 34 weeks everything was so different I was able to nurse , pump and formula feed cause she just needed more calories . Joshua refused a bottle and nursed for a long time .

My youngest sister was a nicu baby for MONTHS. She was born 5 months too early. I remember being 6 years old. Going everyday to the hospital with my grandma and surviving on coffee to stay awake. Just so I could be with my baby sister. Our egg donor "mother", only came once for a minute. She rather go on her date. Now my sister is 25 going on 26. Her teenage years were wild lol but you know she was NEVER sick. I can't remember her ever being sick. I may not be a nicu mother but I understand what it's like being there everyday and hoping things get better ❤

My brother and I were both NICU babies. My mom breastfed us very little because we weren’t strong enough. But every baby is different. My mom would pump and add formula to the breast milk. It really helped us grow because we were so small. We were also very chill babies and in turn very chill people.

I know Frey life the RU-vidrs don’t induce lactation. They adopted a little one and used a system to breast feed. Jt basically had a pump and a tube that goes into the baby’s mouth while they breast feed. Might be something to look into and ask your doctor about.

That’s the pump I have and I love it but it can be pretty harsh on the nips 😅😅

I wanted to breastfeed so bad. My daughter was born at 28 weeks&was in the NICU for 75 days. I pumped&I was producing so much at first, but then towards the end of our stay, we kept getting told she was going home&then they would turn around&say she has to stay. I got so stressed, my supply completely tanked. Now my daughter is formula fed.

100% agree with the feelings not being able to breast feed! I exclusively pumped and I just ended my journey of 8 months.

There is a saying in Norway that rimes, that says: Mamming framfor amming. Witch means Mommying before breastfeeding. Witch I suppose you understand means that being a healthy happy mommy and baby is way more important than breastfeeding. My sister had major issues, and her partner basally forced her to breastfeed.

My daughter was 11 weeks old when she started breastfeeding. There is still hope.

I second using a nipple shield when the time comes for him to try the breast. I got my previously 100% bottle fed baby on the breast thanks to a nipple shield. It took about 2 weeks to go from bottle to nipple sheild to no shield. I had a long breastfeeding journey after that. Dont give up hope!

Ultimately fed is best but don’t loose hope mama ! I wasn’t able to breastfeed my older 3 so with baby number 4 I was determined to give it my best shot but my little guy ended up in the nicu for 17 days and had to come home on thickened feeds so I pumped for the first 4 months to give him time for his swallow reflex to strengthen but just about 1.5 months ago we transitioned to breastfeeding and he has done soo good . There is a light at the end . And hands free pumps are so great !!! You are doing a great job and baby Finn is so lucky you are his mom .

Since when is spitup concidered a bad thing When i know it to be the most needed thing to get a baby to be an intuitive eater and learn to slow down when eating as well

Why can’t you breast feed? My son was in nicu and then I had a massive infection. I taught him to breast feed at 3 months old with a nipple shield. He also has a delayed swallow and would almost aspirate as well. Drs would rather me have the breast milk then formula cause they said breasts milk in the lungs would be safer. When the time comes look into a nipple shield. ESP cause they are used to the bottle feel. It worked. Breast fed for 3 years

Its been proven since nestle offed a bunch of babies baby formula the worst thing for a baby and yet common sense goes right out the window I say that because this happened to others as well I think something similar to my sisters baby who started to poop blood and she got lied to about what that meant so her baby 3 years old dont know how hes still alive
