I am a Cabinet shop/ woodworking finisher. I use the Black Widow, Spectrum and Central Pneumatic $75 gun to spray die stains and toners. So far they have worked flawlessly for our large production shop. Typically, woodworking finishing products are very different than automotive paint products. Application of spray is much heavier. However, I do a lot of high gloss paint which is much closer to an automotive process. Even for Cabinetry I wouldn't use the CP $75 for a final coat, but both the BW and Spectrum do well for me. When spraying high gloss on wood or MDF you still need to scuff and buff to get the best results. For these reasons, I watch this channel. Best paint channel on YT. Someday, I will get the b@lls to paint my truck.

Jon Woodworker What tip size do you use for woodworkingI’m guessing you have a large 13+ cfm 80 gallon compressor? I’m toting around a Cal Air Tool 4620ac hoping to purchase the hte version to spray GF finishes.
@jonwoodworker
@jonwoodworker 3 года назад
@@mitchellkasdin1899 My compressor is a Kaeser KS25T..so lots of air. I also mainly 95%, use a Kremlin system which has it's own pump. Kremlin has their own tip format which is different then regular spray guns. They use the same needle and you only switch the cap to match what you spray. As for my cup guns I mostly use 1.7 needle cap combo as woodworking finishes are usually a lot thicker than automotive finishes. When I do high gloss conversation varnish or lacquer paints, I will go as low as 1.3 tip and cap combo.

@@jonwoodworker do you paint plywood? Building some subwoofer cabinets with 3/4” plywood and wondering how to seal the edges before painting hi gloss black.
@jonwoodworker
@jonwoodworker Год назад
@@jcrroadie Option 1. Take it to a local cabinet shop and have them edge tape the plywood. 2. Fill the edges with wood filler or bondo. Then prime and sand the edges until completely filled and smooth. Very difficult to get raw plywood edges smooth. Fill, sand, prime, repeat.

Great review as always. I’m a painter & am always impressed with the level of information in your content. I’m just surprised they’re (Chines knockoffs) allowed to manufacture a gun that is so similar to the SATA without getting sued, when it’s pretty obvious it’s virtually a direct copy. No wonder it sprays so well. Keep up the great work & Cheers from Oz.

What I learned from importing a few machines from China to USA is most of the time, a Chinese company developed the original design and pitches it to XYZ brand(s). For example this is why we see virtually identical woodworking equipment across several brands. The Chinese manufacturer owns THEIR design and typically has agreements on individual brand color schemes and/or badging (I.e. We'll paint it any color you'd like except gold & black because that's PowerMatic's proprietary color scheme.). They're not breaking patent laws because the company who's brand you see on the tool does not actually own the design, the Chinese manufacturer does. Additionally, it's not a "Knock Off" as we think of that term because it literally came off the same assembly line, perhaps with a few component tweaks according to the price point of each individual brand. Hope that helps clarify this issue, as it was initially eye-opening for me too 🙂

That’s where I started I 1981…. $69.95, any car any color. Guaranteed not to fade for 3 years. Started out as a masked, then sander, bugged the painter to death. They had that cost efficient. Junk painting. Production auto painting was a circuit. I worked at 4’before I opened a collision shop. Painted at all but Earl’s. Pay was good, I got an hour and a half to sand and mask a car.’in by 9’out by 5

Thanks for this video. As usual, your videos are very helpful for amateurs like me. Although this gun laid down primer well, I don't recommend it. When I am working on anything, I'm good about keeping track of parts, but somehow when cleaning this gun, I lost the plastic air valve ring. My fault I know, but I called Harbor Freight and they don't supply this part as a replacement. Now I'm stuck with a $200 gun I cannot use. Based on the money I spent, I could have had a name brand gun for less, but when I bought it, I was new to spraying and thus, the products and didn't know any better. This HTE gun looks similar to an Iwata or Sata, but that's about all I know. If anyone out there knows if this model is the same as some other model, I would be grateful if you could share that information. At least a big manufacturer might have the same part. Thanks.

yup, bought both guns cheap n new under 150$, I still have others even my old binks 69 and 7 guns. I used this to spray a car with acrylic lacquer base , and on flat area it’s not bad at all for the price. 👍🤪

Good review. How about a video on similar priced Devilbiss FLG5 or SGK for primer, base and clear?

I came across your Harbor Freight $16 HVLP review and instantly became a subscriber! Your videos are the 1st that I have seen that have captions while doing the work so "newbs" like me can follow along. Now I do have 1 question in regards to this video: why not wet "color" sand with the 400 grit? My theory is that the water would wash away too much of the base coat, am I right?

Some of the parts actually interchange with sata. I like your videos I've been a tech over 40rs and painted the first 20. Recently I've been doing paint work on side jobs since putting heat and air conditioning in home shop. The old devilbiss gravity guns don't work as well with new materials. I bought both hte and hvlp black widows. The still put a ton of spray in the air with no booth how to deal with that

My black widow shit out on me and I can’t find anything wrong with it. Got it out of curiosity and it became my go to for Metallics over my sata. Till this last car I did. Only have bottom fan. No clogged ports, no damaged metal, no bad seals or plastic, nothing at all built up in it. That gun was well cared for because of how well it sprayed

Haha I went to HF just now to get a purple throw away gun for some UPOL Raptor, remembered how much I hated the triggers on the purple, grabbed a 1.7 Black Widow. Now I can’t get myself to run Raptor through it 😂

Another great video. I could watch your videos all day...I have a question though...do you have someplace where I could ask you a specific question? I didn’t think here is appropriate.

Great video, I’ve found though that with this gun you really have to bump up the pressure. I’ve had best results spraying base at 30psi and clear at 35psi. You have to spray a little closer to to panel and move faster also than with other guns. I still would rather use my iwata for clear though.
