Today, we are going to replace the printed circuit board (PCB) on an old hard drive for data restoration purposes. It is way easier than you might think. The only tool that you really need is a T6 driver, which usually comes in a set. This is a relatively inexpensive way to restore some data that may otherwise be lost forever! please be sure to like, share, and subscribe if you enjoy! Thanks for watching!

PSA: You are required to swap the BIOS chip. There are lots of vids on YT that shows this. It's a very easy process, de-solder 8 pins, remove chip, place old chip on new board. You don't need a heat gun, a soldering iron with de-soldering wick is fine. It's a chonky chip, so no fine work is required.

Without the bios this will not recover your data. I notice you didn't test to see if it work after the change. It's very misleading.

@ryanvox1 I do believe so but you might have a corruption issue down the road with artifacts from previous writing but that's me just speculating.

@Ivel307
@Ivel307 8 месяцев назад
@johnsarab4500 Sure, but there is also a bios chip on the hard drive that is essentially the ID for the drive. Without it, there is no way to call up the memory as it's saved. It's basically the road map or decoder for the drive drive.

Do you think i can swap the board from different size but same manufacturer?
@eriksrensen6369
@eriksrensen6369 2 года назад
You can NOT just swap the board. If you do the hard drive will spin, but there is NO data. You have to swap the bios chip from the "bad board" to the new board. This video is for no use.
@teachermichaelt.d.
@teachermichaelt.d. 2 года назад
how do you do that?
@eriksrensen6369
@eriksrensen6369 2 года назад
@@teachermichaelt.d. You have to go online and search for your board and locate the bios chip on the board. Then you need some skill to heat the chip free from the bad board and heat it on to the new board. You can find videos about how to here on RU-vid. But if you don't have any experience doing this, you should call a computer repair shop and let them swap the chip. I don't think it will cost a lot of money. I've heard a price around 50 bucks should do it.
@teachermichaelt.d.
@teachermichaelt.d. 2 года назад
@@eriksrensen6369 nice one for speedy response. I think I have the skill, I tinker with RC aircraft and their electrics. However, if that chip cannot be replaced, is there another way of activating the circuit board?
@eriksrensen6369
@eriksrensen6369 2 года назад
@@teachermichaelt.d. As I understand, you say you have the skill to replace the bios chip. And now you ask if the chip can't be replaced? It doesn't make sense. The chip CAN be replaced if you know how to do it. I think you should let a repair shop do it for you,

Came across this video and im in need of help, i have a seagate barracuda think it is 2 tb hard drive, the sata port on it snapped off so i ended up replacing the entire board on it, but i connected it and nothing, keep in mind the hhd was fine before that snapped off so it was a working unit no problems and very little use out of it so very little ware on the internals, do you have to do something special for the chip to start working on it to run it? I did buy it from a place idk if they are reputable but any advise?

@@themostlymikeshow2582 I just subscribed I just got done earlier today replacing the printed circuit board on my old hard drive. I found an identical printed circuit board on eBay for 20 bucks. I bought it and replaced it but did not installed in the computer at this point. Believe it or not I got an email from the seller they were telling me that I must change the BIOS chip on the board or resoldering or something like that. So at that point I was glad I did not install it in my computer. So I'm sitting around here thinking about this and I stumbled upon your video. Hopefully when you replace the furnace circuit board everything works fine. I don't know anything about resoldering a bios chip but I think I'm going to put my hard drive in my computer and see if I can recover the data it's been sitting out for five years because I had some broken pins on my old printed circuit board. Watching your video makes me think I'm not going to have any problem recovering that data. Keith

It will not work. Even if you both found and successfully transfer identical board on your hdd. Whats important you use the same bios. Some tech try to transfer the bios chip to other good one still 50-50 change. The best thing to do is try to find and replace the bad component.

@@anoop000111 how are they stuck . Did u round out the screw? Either way try a very hot soldering iron without solder out inside screw head to heat screw up as hot as you can . A little smoke from around screw is ok just not alot. When you have it as hot as possible without destroying anything, quickly put into frost free freezer briefly like 5 or 10min don't freeze. Try unscrew while still cold. Repeat process. If screw rounded fill with metal putty, put screw driver in for shape then leave couple of days to go hard. These have worked for me

I had the same problem with my Seagate 1TB SATA drive dying and found the same working drives on eBay with the exact parameters as mine on the label on the ad. I messaged the seller to verify the info before I purchased it because he may be using a generic photo on one of his. Once it was verified I made the purchase. The board on my old drive has the same part number as his, just a later revision. The firmware was the same so I shouldn't need to change that.

I'm having a problem with my WD10JPVX , the SSD isn't detected in my laptop, it only gets detected once per 20 times trying , and when its finally detected i open the partitions i see my files everything is fine, but few seconds later it gets undetected again . My SSD is spinning perfectly , no weird sounds at all, only one unusual sound happens every 3 minutes maybe for 1 second , maybe it's even a normal sound . No burn smells, no power problems . So is that a problem in the PCB Board ? And what if i change the PCB board ? Will i get my data back ? And the ssd would work again and i wouldn't need a new SSD ? Gosh PUBG Lila, I wish that I could help you with that. I have put drives in before that I had to "teach" the computer where to recognize it, which there were RU-vid videos about. But I never had issues again after doing that. You mentioned that the SSD is spinning and not making any weird sounds. A solid state drive has no moving parts and wouldn't make any sounds at all. Aside from that, I'm no computer expert. I just tinker with my own stuff. My channel mainly revolves around mountain biking and tools.
