A few precisions : - when I talk about the scratches on the pickguard, some are pretty deep and I'm sure they have passed through the plastic film that's supposed to protect it. Now no I haven't removed that plastic film cos' I have returned the guitar (remember : the tone pot for the bridge pup doesn't work.) - What I say about the QC is precisely what Thomann's Customer Service told me about the way it works. So yes, clearly, they check out everything their eyes can see, but they don't test the guitar functionalities. - some say I've been a been harsh with this guitar. That was not my intent; cos it's a good guitar for the price and it plays really nice. I've spent some good times writing and playing this demo with it ! But I didn't want to give you the impression that it's perfect, or that it's the bargain of the century. Now I must say I've been disappointed with the painting and it was a pain in the butt cleaning it :/

Its a strat copy.. The tone on strats are only for the neck and middle pickup.

in basic configuration no pots are applied to the bridge humbucker, so well it's possible to resoil in any way you want it :-) nice play and nice review! =)

Nice review and playing! The tone pots are for the middle and neck picks ups. The bridge doesn’t have one

I have two Harley Bentons already. I couldn't pass on this HSS for $89 US! Will let you know what I think. My other two guitars, I love and can't believe the affordability!

Pull the foil from the pickguard. There used to be a protective plastic covering/foil on top . Pretty good sounds for this price range. Nice playing !

I haven’t removed the plastic from the pickguard but some scratches were really deep I’m pretty sure they have passed through it. Now it’s just cosmetic on plastic so not a big deal. And thanks for my playing :)

@@recepasal3649 yok kardeşim vazgeçtim bundan sonra 2. El bir sx tele ash aldım. Genel olarak söyleyebileceğim şey ise şu, bütçenin 1/3 ünü gitar 2/3 ünü amfiye ver, gitar çok iyi olmasa sa başlangıç olduğu için kurtarıyor ama amfi çöpse istersen fender al hiç zevk alamazsın

it seems they changed the fretboard on these as well, the current pics show a reddish fretboard material whereas yours has a ebony like colour...

I've checked it out and it looks like the fretboard is still Amaranth. But on the one I had, it was painted to look darker. On the new one, you have the natural color of amaranth.

Hi , thanks for this video!🙂 I would like to buy this guitar. Only thing I am not sure about, actually I'm not got used to is vibrato (tremolo rod), so guitar can be played normally without it? Also bridge needs to be blocked, if I don't use it? Thanks.

Hi ! You don't need to worry about this trem, if you don't use it, it will leave you alone. The bridge doesn't need to be blocked.

are you using pre-amps or is this the raw sound from just the guitar and a regular speaker-amplifier?

Hi, I have just purchased ST-20 HSS SBK Standard Series, and since the first use, I've noticed that the humbucker pickup is not in fixed position, I mean if I press on it to the right (towards the bridge) , it bounces, if I press to the left (towards the middle pickup) it bounces as well, it does not entirely comes back to the balanced position. It remains a little balanced either towards the bridge or towards the middle pickup. Is that normal or the pickup is not properly mounted?

Sound s normal to me. The pickup is only held in place by a single screw each side going through a spring, there will be the possibility of pushing it to one side or the other.

@@mariusg79 That's OK. It is a little unnerving when you first notice it. Being a bit OCD it's annoying that they won't sit exactly parallel to the scratch plate. 😀

the guitar on the website has a reddish neck and i really dislike but i also really wanna purchase it. How is the neck on your guitar black?

On the guitar I have reviewed, the fretboard was black. Since then, it looks like they have changed it and now it's the natural color of the amaranth (kinda purple). So if you buy one now, you'll get that reddish neck.

after using the tremolo bar that comes with the guitar, does it keep the tunning?

Well, not really ! You should forget about the trem and consider you have a hard tail. Or replace it with a good quality trem if you really want one.

Hello, what do you think about Harley Benton DC-580 CH Vintage Series compraring to st20hss? I don't know if it worth to put another 50 euros to dc-580.

Hello ! Well I’ve never played the DC-580 so it’s not an easy question to answer. I think the ST-20 could be more comfortable to play especially on the higher frets. The pickups seem very different, the DC 580 comes with some vintage voiced pups that are probably medium / low output.

@@ToroKchannel Thank you for your reply. I can't make up my mind. There is also Harley Benton DC-200 CH Student Series for 105euros which is the same as dc-580 vintage series? They got 2 Humbuckers so they are better? I am just a beginner so it's difficult to choose when you don't know that stuff ;/

2 humbuckers is not better than Humbucker / single / single, it depends upon what you wanna play. So what do you wanna play ? Which groups or guitar players are your influences ?

Ok you don't absolutely need a neck humbucker :) So you can go for this one, I think it's a good choice for you according to your influences. These pickups have enough power and it's an easy guitar to play.

It's a good choice but you might have a bit of work to do on it : fret polishing, fretboard oiling, action and intonation setup. If you can't do it yourself, you will need the help of a luthier and you have to add it to the price you will pay for this axe.

not sure the shape of Fender's pickguards will be ok and if it is, Fender's pickguards come with holes for 3 pots. Looks like Harley Benton doesn't make pickguards for this HH version, but they should !

@@ToroKchannel There are dozens of hss and sss pickguards on thomann. Including ones from benton. Did you have time to check them a little bit out? In the reviews people mentioned that some holes might be at different places but overall they can be used with hss20

thanks ! As far as intonation goes, I've heard it too afterwards, but on my tuner (Korg) it sounded ok, so I thought my ears were wrong. But it might come from the wood too.

I've got room for 17 guitars, not more. I've already got 14, and eventhough I find this guitar very interesting, I don't rhink I could make it a very interesting mod project. But it was not a matter of money.

hi :) I'm about to learn guitar and wanted to buy this guitar. I've heard most people say that it's best to replace the tuners, but since I know nothing about it... can you please recommend me better tuners that are still cheap (under/around 35 euros if possible)?

If you change the tuners for a better tuning stability, you should also change the nut. I recommend you to go for Gotoh tuners like the SG381-07. Be careful with the screw tab angle that must be 45° on this guitar.

I have released this video a long time ago, now. Since then I have reviewed a lot of other guitars and as you know, they generally come with plastics on the pickups. I have tried them with the plastic and without the plastic. I have done some recordings, just to make sure... And, well, those very thin pieces of plastic do not affect the tone at all. Maybe it could happen if the plastic was thicker. Try by yourself next time you buy a brand new axe :)
