Getting more pull for highway speeds on my garage built Harley Davidson Sportster chopper that I call the Tramp. I had been running a 23 tooth sprocket on the front with a 48 tooth sprocket on the rear wheel.
On my old motor I was only able to get away with running a 22 tooth sprocket at best on the front with a 48 tooth sprocket on the rear wheel. When I tried a 47 tooth on the rear, it turned out to be too much for that motor.
After installing a later model motor in the motorcycle, I installed a 23 tooth sprocket (something that the previous motor wouldn't be able to handle) on the front with a 48 tooth sprocket on the rear wheel. To my surprise at the time of test running it (the newer motor), it performed very well with that final drive setup.
After about a year and a half of running with that sprocket ratio on the newer motor, I decide to go down one tooth on the rear sprocket, because it seemed to be very likely to me, that the bike would be able to handle it. This will be the setup her on out.
